The evening took the form of dinner for 800 VIP guests followed by a band and a Charity Auction which aimed to raise £250,000 for Help for Heroes - the charity formed in 2007 to raise money for the rehabilitation of wounded ex-servicemen across the Armed Forces.
Lighting designer Jono Kenyon was brought in to design the lighting for the band, the charity auction and the general dinner states, and had the added responsibility of acting as production manager for the evening.
The brief was to keep the costs as low as possible since all funding would come directly from the charity, yet to produce a stylish event suitable for the large number of dignitaries attending. The lighting was designed to play a significant part in creating the kind of atmosphere and environment which might encourage guests to donate generously to the cause.
Kenyon approached Point Source Productions to provide the equipment for the evening. "Point Source Productions was very generous in its provision of equipment," says Kenyon. "As always, the high quality of both their equipment and their service played a vital part in the final result of the evening,"
Kenyon used a starcloth backdrop and Martin MAC 300s to light the band on stage, whilst a combination of Martin MAC 550 and MAC 600 provided the ambient dinner lighting. Lighting and starcloth were rigged on Litec QX30S truss and controlled from a Hog II console, all of which came from Point Source Production's hire stock.
