Porsgrunn is an upper secondary school in Norway located in the coastal town of Porsgrunn in Telemark County, 150 km southwest of the country's capital, Oslo. The school is one of Telemark County's largest high schools with a total of 1150 students and 160+ employees. Its multipurpose auditorium contains tiered seating for 180 persons and the sound system was required to be suitable for speech, live music and film.
The system was designed by Bj°rn Fjeld of Norsk Lydteknikk AS, who has designed many similar multipurpose systems for educational and commercial establishments across Norway.
"I use Community VERIS2 loudspeakers for such applications," explained Fjeld. "They provide great sound quality for music and film and have exceptional speech intelligibility. A range of models and dispersion patterns facilitates matching the right product to various room layouts and seating configurations, and they are very robust and reliable. They meet the budget for this type of educational establishment and combined with Ecler amplifiers and Symetrix DSP it adds up to great sound for the level of investment."
For Porsgrunn, Fjeld used the 12-inch, two-way V2-1296 loudspeakers with 90 x 60 degree dispersion, which ideally suited the room and provided consistent sound over the whole seating area. The school is to invest in Community Veris subs later this year and the system's Symetrix Solus 8 DSP mixer has been pre-programmed ready for this sub/top upgrade. Ecler DPA2000 amplifiers were chosen to power the V2-1296 loudspeakers. Netsolution AS also integrated the school's existing VITY touch control system to control the Symetrix DSP mixer.
"The school has been extremely complimentary about the system meeting their needs," concludes Fjeld, "in particular, the excellent sound it provides for every seat in the auditorium."
