Europe - As part of an upgrade programme that has seen FOH engineer Jon Schumann regularly adding upgrades to the touring Waves SoundGrid LV-1 rig that he has designed, the MØ FOH engineer has recently upgraded their network infrastructure with the addition of a new Luminex based Fibre backbone for their fully featured LV-1 system.
Whilst the Danish Pop Star has been steadily amassing an increased following, her FOH engineer has been amassing an increasingly impressive audio system for touring. Rather than going down the route of a rented touring system, MØ have chosen to purchase most of their touring rg and build a flyable system that can accompany them to every gig.
The addition of the four Luminex GigaCore 14R switches, along with the two redundant PSUs that provide full power redundancy at each end of the wire for both sets of switches, has added the Rosetta s

Singapore - Every evening visitors flock to the Singapore Zoo. They aren’t coming to see the facility’s animals, who by then have been safely tucked away in their sleeping quarters. The attraction that draws them is a winding 1km magical path that immerses the senses with the sights and sounds of simulated rainforest landscapes, complete with a shimmering island, cavernous hills and virtual animals, including an orangutan, a flying fox and hornbills.
Created by Moment Factory, a multimedia studio based in Montreal, Canada, Rainforest Lumina is a triumph of technology and imagination. Lighting plays a key role in crafting Rainforest Lumina’s mesmerizing spell. Not only does it add greater depth to the exhibit’s scenery and video projection effects, it also evokes powerful emotions along pathways and creates a surreal impression, standing out against the night sky.

Switzerland - Signify reports that the prestigious Béjart Ballet Lausanne has invested in its next generation Philips Vari-Lite VLZ Profile luminaires. The company, which tours internationally each year, chose the new lighting fixtures to take advantage of the many benefits of the latest LED technology, while maintaining the highest quality of stage lighting for its exquisite and renowned choreography.
Having used the VLZ Profiles at their home, the Beaulieu Theater in Lausanne, and on tour, Béjart Ballet Lausanne is satisfied that their investment was “the right choice”. Among many improvements over conventional fixtures, the team notes especially the VLZ Profile’s silent operation.
For lighting designer Dominique Roman, the silence is golden. “We work with classical music, with quiet moments, and the fan noise from the old machines complicated things. It w

UK - Academy Music Group Limited (AMG) has announced a new lease agreement with Manchester-based live entertainment venue Victoria Warehouse.
Situated in the heart of the city, the venue was originally the Liverpool Warehousing Company, two huge warehouses built in 1925 and 1936. Their monumental scale and exuberant architectural style dominated the canal-side, and Victoria Warehouse is now one of the only surviving warehouses of its kind; retaining its classic internal structure of cast-iron columns, supporting wooden beams and joists.
Victoria Warehouse was renovated in 2009 to become a premier events and hospitality venue, with multiple rooms, formats and configurations. The main auditorium capacity is 3,500.
Graham Walters, chief operating officer, Academy Music Group, says: “Manchester’s warehouses are so important to the history of the city. They give

USA - After sold-out performances in Europe, folk legend Joan Baez continues her 2018 Fare Thee Well tour in North America with both FOH and monitors mixed by engineer Jason Raboin of Klondike Sound on an Allen & Heath dLive C Class C3500 Surface with CDM48 MixRack.
"I’ve worked for Joan for 15 years and she’s an amazing performer,” says Raboin. “At one point, she simplified to a three-piece band and I started doing both FOH and monitors so I knew I needed a better console. I did a lot of research and talked to some people I really trust. Then, I got to demo a dLive. Even with just music playback, it sounded better than what I was using. So I went for it and it has been great.”
Raboin described the typical setup for a performance. “I have 24 inputs from the stage, with three in-ear mixes and four wedge mixes plus whatever is required for the hous

UK - Built in 1855 as a corn exchange, Loughborough Town Hall has morphed into a diverse performance venue with a 522-seat theatre and space for meetings and receptions.
Keeping pace with the eclectic procession of shows and events is a versatile lighting system that was recently made more robust by the addition of Chauvet Professional Maverick and Ovation fixtures supplied by Stage Electrics. Funding for the new LED fixtures was obtained through a government programme that incentivised energy savings.
“The new fixtures are far more efficient than the incandescent units they replaced,” says James Cladingboel, technical director of Loughborough Town Hall. “However, their benefits extend way beyond energy savings. They’ve greatly expanded the things we can do with our lighting system.”

USA - American Music Theatre in Lancaster hosts both touring concerts and original shows. Housing a 1,600-seat room that welcomes over 250,000 attendees a year, this popular venue hosts more than 300 live performances annually.
Clair Brothers was selected by American Music Theatre to provide the first (and to this day only) loudspeaker system in the venue. Now, 22 years later, the company has been called on again for the upgrade to its C8-TrueFit loudspeaker system.
Jim Martin, executive director at American Music Theatre, comments: “22 years ago, we installed a top-of-the-line audio system from Clair Brothers that has served us well. When we were first told about C8-TrueFit technology, we were hopeful about what it could mean for our room. We already trust Clair Brothers, so it wasn’t a huge leap of faith to know they would deliver on the promise that the custom-t

UK - Adlib has had a busy summer after making substantial investments in touring and rental video in the first half of 2018.
The major purchase has been the addition of Unilumin’s UpadIII H5 5mm indoor/outdoor LED screen, which has been designed for quick and safe assembly with the demands of touring and concert style events in mind.

Germany - Café Luzia in the busy Kreuzberg district of Berlin has just installed a Genelec sound system to enhance the music experience of what is a relaxed café by day and trendy lounge bar by night. Weekend DJ spots provide a distinctly electronic edge to the warm, candlelit atmosphere, attracting a crowd who expect nothing less than excellent audio.
The owner decided that the time was right to invest in a studio-quality sound solution in order to keep pace with customer expectations and maintain his reputation as one of Berlin’s coolest café bars. He turned to Studio SPC, an acoustic design studio in the heart of Berlin, who recommended Genelec as the answer to his requirements.
“As soon as the client told me that he specifically wanted studio-grade sound quality in his bar, I recommended Genelec straight away,” says Kenan Jan Ibar, owner and founder of St

The Netherlands - Defqon.1, one of the biggest outdoor dance festivals, takes place in Biddinghuizen and is organised by Q-Dance. Its 2018 edition featured 236 of the new CLF LEDbar PRO linear LED battens.
CLF LEDbar PRO fixtures were located all over the impressive mainstage, produced by Q-Dance. Hans Bokkinga, owner of Habo, comments: ‘We were looking for a powerful linear fixture to outline the shape of the stage. When looking for a linear fixture we found the CLF LEDbar PRO, which immediately caught our attention because of the big reflectors. Because of these, the fixtures are very usable for large scale shows like this.”
Next to the LEDbar PRO, other CLF fixtures were deployed during the festival. CLF Ares LEDwashes were responsible for illuminating the impressive decoration and 136 CLF Aorun beams were also included in the impressive design. “We really lik

UK - Adam Rhodes has been FOH engineer for folk-rock duo Angus and Julia Stone for the past 10 years. He is also a long time L‑Acoustics user, favouring the French manufacturer’s K Series systems for his general touring rig.
This June, UK and European production supplier for the Stones, Britannia Row Productions, gave Rhodes the opportunity to expand his audio horizons by trying out L‑ISA Hyperreal Sound technology. Not only was he to take on this new experience with little time to learn the L‑ISA system, he was to do it at the notoriously challenging Royal Albert Hall, a venue he had never worked in before. It was, he says, “a revelation”.
“I was offered the chance a few months before the show,” says Rhodes. “Brit Row’s Lez Dwight told me that there would be an L-ISA system in place for the Classic Brits at the RAH and, if I wanted to use the syste

USA - Megan Alksninis, lighting designer and technician for JDI Productions, had to design 21 Savage’s Numb The Pain tour in two weeks – a task for which the LD looked closely into the rapper’s ‘red-hot’ style. This ultimately led her to select the Chauvet Professional Rogue RH1 Hybrid as her main fixture for the mostly sold out 22-city tour.
“Looking at Savage’s style and stage presence, I decided I needed something versatile for this tour, which is why I selected the Rogue RH1,” says Alksninis. “The RH1 is a hybrid, which gave me the flexibility to switch from a beam to wash look seamlessly.”
As an artist, 21 Savage is known for his ‘realistic rap’, with intense lyrics and hard-driving music that reflect his coming of age on the streets of Atlanta.
“My overall look can be summed up as ‘the brighter the better,’” she adds.

“We’ve completed several successful projects with the Catholic Church including two recent sound reinforcement systems at churches in Georgia,” explains Keith Reardigan, TSAV VP of technology & standards and senior systems architect. “That, together with several successful proj

New Zealand - When administrators at the Baycourt Community and Arts Centre in Tauranga decided to replace the loudspeaker system at the Addison Theatre, they opted for IS-Series from Adamson Systems Engineering.
“The brief from the client stipulated a number of criteria, such as suitability for both musical theatre and touring bands, excellent clarity while retaining a warm sound, and even coverage throughout the entire venue,” says Mike Hughes of Intec Systems Ltd., an Auckland-based firm specialising in the design, sale, and installation of commercial audio, lighting, and video systems. “From our previous experience with Adamson and the IS-Series products, we knew those criteria would be perfectly met and exceeded.”

Canada - Numerous fixtures from PR Lighting were on duty when Mexican group Banda MS recently played the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario over three nights.
In order to create maximum dynamics for this award-winning band, Heriberto Montalvo (Hammer) and his team, alongside First Born Productions, turned to Mega Systems, PR Lighting’s North American distributor, to provide inventory.
From PR Lighting, they deployed the popular new Phantom, rigging several of these fixtures on the truss - over the band and on the sides. Housing an Osram 440W discharge source, the Phantom is an astounding Beam, Wash and Spot hybrid moving head. With three different modes, the fixture comprises a 0°-2.8° beam (in Beam mode), 2.8°-60° (in Spot mode) and 10°-60° (in Wash mode), which allowed the unit to create multiple effects onto the crowd and stage.

Austria - Salzburger Festspiele has recently invested in a multi-surface dLive system for the performance of medieval play Jedermann, which has taken place every year since 1923 at the Domplatz (Cathedral Square) in Salzburg.
With almost 700 performances in just under a century, the play is a central element of the festival’s identity and takes place throughout the summer. This year, the organisers have acquired an Allen & Heath dLive mixing system through suppliers, ATEC Pro Audio, which was purchased especially for the performance and are planning to acquire further dLive systems for their six other locations.
Dr. Edwin Pfanzagl-Cardone (head of the sound engineering and acoustics for the Salzburger Festspielfonds) had considered several digital mixers prior to choosing dLive. He comments: “Having heard only good things about Allen & Heath from co

South Africa - OppiKoppi music festival offers a lively mix of genres embracing rock, electronic, jazz, world and acoustic sounds.
Pretoria based rental company Stage Effects, run by Theo Papenfus, has been involved in OppoKoppi for several years. Papenfus first worked as a tech on the event, and since 1999 Stage Effects has been a supplier. This year they provided site-wide lighting and visuals for five production stages.

He also used 12 x standard Pointes, plus some other fixtures including LED washes, LED battens and 4-cell blinders.
OppiKoppi 2018 was only the second time Erik had used MegaPointes – supplied to Stage Effects earlier in the year by Robe’s South African distributor DWR. The first was
