France - The Colisée de Roubaix (Roubaix Coliseum) in France has undergone various interior transformations throughout its near-century of operations. The most recent of those included the installation of an S-Series loudspeaker system from Adamson to enhance the myriad of productions presented in the historic 1,700-seat main theatre.
The venue boasts 7,000 subscribers and welcomes an average of 100,000 spectators per season. Built in 1927, it is well known for its rich cultural history and stunning architecture. That, in addition to the many types of productions hosted on its main stage, from modern and classical music to opera, drama, and dance, resulted in a long list of stipulations for the ideal audio solution.
“We needed a system that would provide excellent sound reinforcement for a number of different productions, and that met several other technical criter

The Netherlands - December 2017 saw Dutch singer Waylon appearing in association with Radio Veronica and its Top 1000 show to play three sold-out nights at the Ahoy Rotterdam arena. The Radio Veronica brand goes back to the 1960s – when it broadcast from offshore – and its Top 1000 is a hotly anticipated announcement, yearly listing ‘the 1000 best songs ever’.
The Rotterdam shows featured Waylon, plus special guests, delivering tracks from the Top 1000 list. Dutch creative outfit Tenfeet was charged with providing pre-programme studio facilities for lights and video, as well as operating media servers during the live gigs.
Given carte blanche by the event organisers to configure a video control system to exactly match its wishes, Tenfeet opted to use the Hippotizer Montane+ media server.

"Harman has a reputation for making speakers that provide excellent performance," said George Seldon, president and CIO of STC Audio Video. "I c

USA - Hip-hop artist Juvenile recently brought his street heat to eastern Georgia, shaking up the house at the Country Club live music venue with blistering renditions of songs like Back That Thang Up and his 2003 No. 1 Billboard hit Slow Motion.
Helping set a feverishly intense mood at the club for his no-holds-barred performance was a bright fast-moving John Berret lightshow that featured Chauvet Professional fixtures supplied by Quest Sound & Productions.
Anchored by Rogue R1 Beam and Rogue R2 Spot fixtures, Berret’s show, which he controlled with a ChamSys PC Wing and Chauvet Net-X Art-Net node, filled the spacious dancehall venue with bursts of light to accent key moments in Juvenile’s performance.
“No doubt, this lightshow was built on brightness and intensity, because this is what the music called for,” said Berret. “Something I

USA - The Band's Visit, a critically acclaimed new musical that celebrates the deeply human ways music and laughter connect us, opened in November to rave reviews at the Barrymore Theatre on Broadway. It is the story of the Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra's arrival in Israel for the opening of an Arab Cultural Centre, only to find out that they have boarded the wrong bus to the wrong town – with some inevitably amusing consequences.
A big part of the musical's success is celebrated sound designer Kai Harada's innovative sound design, at the heart of which is Astro Spatial Audio's true object-based approach to immersive, three-dimensional audio.
At the heart of the Astro Spatial Audio (ASA) solution is the conversion of audio signals into audio objects. ASA's SARA II Premium Rendering Engine – a 3U road and rack ready processor offering up to 128 MADI

“We wanted to create a stunning backdrop for the award ceremony by allowing the guests inside to be able to se

USA - A quality tungsten audience blinder has a key role in a Zac Brown Band show, and last year’s discharge-based lights for the band’s Welcome Home tour gave way to high-impact Elation Professional Cuepix Blinder WW2 LED-based white light fixtures.
Production and lighting design for the tour was by UK-based production design company Okulus, who also handled creative direction and scenic design. James Scott, Okulus director, had been introduced to the Cuepix Blinder on another design tour, Passenger, in 2015, an outing where power consumption limitations were a concern and an LED fixture the solution. “Looking at the sheer quantity of blinders that Zac Brown wanted to use on this show, having all those dimmers and cabling didn’t make sense. We had to go LED and again chose Cuepix,” Scott commented.
The Cuepix white light fixtures not only give the cl

World - Irish rock band The Script's current Freedom Child tour features a complex mix of video, live footage, pre-made content and live effects displayed on a multiscreen structure. The ambitious visuals are being powered by Avolites Ai Infinity R8 Servers and Quartz lighting control consoles.
The Script's long-time show designer, Jamie Thompson, is working alongside freelance media server expert Annalisa Terranova, Tom and Satoko Wall from Blinkin LAB and video director Ben Farrey, to deliver the architectural content.
The multi-screen set-up is being run by four Ai R8 media servers. Two R8 servers process content created in real-time effects generator, Notch, which is then fed into the second pair of Ai servers which handle the main content. All of this is then outputted to the massive, angular on-stage LED screens.

USA - Guests at the Arizona Biltmore often ask if the upscale hotel/resort was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. It wasn’t, but it could well have been. Although the famed architect didn’t draw up the blueprints (a former student of his did), he was actively involved in planning the aesthetically balanced 89-year-old structure, which bears his trademark ‘textile block’ construction.
Nowhere is Wright’s ethereal touch more evident than in the Biltmore’s spacious grounds, which instantly captivate visitors with their winding tree-lined paths, evocative abstract sculptures from the Master’s own Midway Gardens, and gently curved glimmering pool. The transformative effect of these grounds was made even more powerful at a recent event, thanks to a Creative BackStage lighting design that featured Maverick and Rogue fixtures from Chauvet Professional.

USA - Paradigm Rigging has worked with Christie Lites to monitor the loads with BroadWeigh wireless load cells on The Killers Wonderful Wonderful world tour.
Michael Sorowka, CEO, Paradigm Rigging, explains: "In September we were brought to New Jersey where The Killers were doing technical rehearsals and programming of the show before their UK leg. There we had 56 cells in play to weight the full show before it hit its first arenas.
“From initial versions, cells were originally going to be specified for some of the larger video walls and two mother grids to help with determining load distribution, but through a few minor design revisions, elements of that changed which in turn changed the needs of the load cells for the run."
The set gives a strong Las Vegas feel consisting of large flown marquee arrows lined in neon, pointing downward to the stage as w
