UK - Specialist racecourse technical services company, RaceTech AV, has recently installed Community R-Series and VERIS loudspeakers as part of the development of the Epsom Downs Racecourse. The £38m, three-year project was commissioned by Jockey Club Racecourses and includes the construction of the new 11,000 capacity Duchess Grandstand.

Horse racing takes place at the course on only 14 days of the year, so the facility encompasses full banqueting, conferencing, exhibition and dining facilities to provide its diverse revenue streams.

The heart of the new facilities is the Oaks Hall. To make this facility truly multi-purpose, a highly-specified audio-visual system with flexible digital infrastructure was required. RaceTech AV used a BSS Soundweb to provide a system in which, for most positions within the Hall, the audio image is strongly located at the stage end of the room.

"Two Community VERIS1596 loudspeakers provide the main focus, with 20 VERIS28 and 10 VERIS8 providing the distributed delay system. The impression is that the delay loudspeakers within the room are not even on, although coverage down the length of this reverberant room is extremely even, achieving excellent speech intelligibility despite the acoustic environment," says Robin Dibble, RaceTech AV's audio systems engineer.
