USA - Stage rigging designer and manufacturer J. R. Clancy has joined the ranks of the fastest growing private companies in the United States, by qualifying for Inc. Magazine's Inc. 5000 list.

Since its inception in 1982, the Inc. 5000 has become one of the most respected indicators of entrepreneurial success among America's privately held companies.

The list ranks companies by percentage of overall revenue growth over a three-year period. In addition, companies that make the list are ranked by industry, metro area, revenue, and number of employees. J. R. Clancy enters the list at #3891.

"Becoming an Inc. 5000 company is a solid indication that our corporate strategy is working," said Mike Murphy, J. R. Clancy president. "First, we became an ISO 9001-registered company and changed our processes dramatically to do business more effectively. At the same time, we

UK - This summer, Four-piece JLS played four UK open air shows, with AP Security ensuring that their excitable fans kept cool heads.

The four shows took place at Westonbirt Arboretum, Gloucestershire, Exeter's Escot Park; Peterborough Embankment and Quex Park.

The first show was part of the Forestry Commission's annual series of live concerts, for which AP's contract for safety and stewarding was recently renewed for a further three years, while the latter three shows were promoted by Beat- up- music, with whom AP also has a long working relationship.

"JLS are the current number one boy band and we're aware that there can be some hysteria from the audience," says AP national sales manager John Phillips. "But we always do extensive planning for any event, we had numerous advisory group meetings with all interested parties and we were 100% confident that we coul

Germany - The Roth Challenge triathlon in Franconia, an event sponsored by the German radio station Bayern 3, has attained cult status. This year, 2,500 triathletes competing individually and 500 relay squads from over 50 different countries lined up at the start, with more than 120,000 spectators lining the route to cheer them on. DJs, live music, the 'Finish Line' party, and a closing firework display added to the fun, creating a party-like atmosphere among spectators that contrasted strangely with the solid determination of competitors in the throes of the gruelling eight-hour ordeal.

The need to provide spectators with intelligible live commentary and information on the intermediate placing and times of the various teams and athletes, as well as music before, during, and after the competition, meant that the quality of the sound reinforcement was of crucial importance to the

UK - Mike Kenny's adaptation of the classic children's tale, The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame at the York Theatre Royal has proved to be the stage hit of the summer. Basking in the glow of rave reviews from the national press, the spectacular production has been billed (amongst other things) as a 'technical triumph', thanks in large part to a daring design which called for the complete transformation of the existing theatre space in order to create the interior of Toad Hall. Structural aluminium systems specialists, Litestructures, were called in to help with the metamorphosis.

The design of Toad Hall, which was the brainchild of designers Lydia Denno and Catherine Chapman, necessitated the transformation of the traditional proscenium arch configuration into an in-the-round space. To achieve this, all of the seating was stripped out from the stalls, and Litestru

UK - Trussing manufacturer Milos is launching five innovative new products on Stand 1-G50 at PLASA 2010.

MR2 8x6m is the latest roofing product from Milos, which is now available as part of their MR2 range of roofing systems. MR2 8x6m meets the demand for a smaller, heavy duty stage for those projects requiring compact roofs with greater weight loadings. It can cover 48sq.m and is designed for clients wanting a structure that can take more weight than the popular MR1 series, bit not needing anything as substantial in size as the MR3, MR4 or MR5 series.

The roof is supported by Milos MT1 towers and the frame constructed out of M290V Quatro trussing beams. All the wires required for wind stabilization are part of the standard package supplied with Milos roofing systems. A tough PVC canopy is available in a wide variety of colors, and the roof comes with all certifications and an

UK - Experimental theatre group Punchdrunk joined forces with English National Opera to present a version of John Webster's The Duchess of Malfi, with a little help from Stage Electrics.

The play was performed in a three-storey office and warehouse complex in the Royal Albert Basin, East London. Stage Electrics' London Bridge branch supplied large quantities of equipment which included cabling, distro, dimming, lanterns and haze machines for this extraordinary production.

"We knew from the start that this was going be a massive project. With a particularly short lead-time and a huge amount of space to cover, it was vital that we could depend on our suppliers. Stage were able to provide us with all the kit and more importantly the backup we needed throughout the project," commented Euan Maybank, technical director, Punchdrunk.

UK - Currently playing in a theatre constructed over the former Eurostar platforms at Waterloo station is the York Theatre Royal production of The Railway Children, produced by Jenny King and Matthew Gale for the Touring Consortium in association with the National Railway Museum

It fell to Northampton-based Unusual Rigging to create, in that cavernous space, a 45m long theatre which straddled tracks and platforms and would house 1000 people and a genuine 66 tonne steam train.

Unusual Rigging's Simon Stone said, "We are used to dealing with the unusual but this was a real turn around - we took the theatre to the train instead of the other way around."

The primary concern was the station's glass roof which, not designed to take heavy loads, needed to support 450m of truss weighing 5 tonnes, with an additional 2.5 tonnes of lighting equipment and one tonne of s

Brought in by Richmond Event Management, it was AP Security's first time at the event and something rather different from the live music circuit which tends to dominate the company's summer workload.

"We were really looking forward to the new challenges that the Fiesta presented," says AP's northern regional manager Simon Miller. "As always we started planning well in advance, in this case in April, and attended monthly meetings in Bristol where all the partners would meet and discuss the event and their roles within it."

AP's staff covered the entire site except the car parks, including al

UK - LTM and COW Lifting Technology are exhibiting together at PLASA 2010. LTM has a wide range of professional equipment on show including a novel display of variable speed LoadGuard chain hoists to BGV C1 in action, combined with an advanced BGV C1 motion control system.

They have also developed some innovative features for LoadGuard motors when used in production applications. The hoists come complete with sealed bearings around the loadchain wheel so there is little chance of rain entering the hoist components. They have also fitted a drain system which consists of a short tube from the load wheel area (where water can sit after rain comes down the chain) to the exterior of the hoist. The drain system means that the water exits the hoist in the hook area.

UK/Germany - German company Reutlinger's cable holders Type 50SVII and Type 80SVII, launched in 2008, have become the de facto product on exhibition stands at trade fairs across Europe and the US.

The high-load-bearing models are specifically designed for use in event technology rigging and fair-booth construction. A huge number of companies have used them to suspend everything from speakers, lights, trussing and more in the construction of their exhibition stands at shows throughout Messe Frankfurt, Messe Berlin and Hannover Messe, to name a few, including the recent Light+Building show in Frankfurt and Showtech in Berlin.

Growing safety awareness throughout the event production industry and increasing demands for products'compliance with European norms and accident-prevention regulations has benefitted Reutlinger systems: they are the only load-bearing cable system to have o
