UK - Having received planning permission to hold the annual month-long Garsington Opera festival at the Wormsley Estate, the home of the Getty family, Garsington Opera has commissioned an elegant pavilion to house the stage, the orchestra and auditorium.

The pavilion, which will be re-erected each year, is made from a limited palette of materials - timber, fabric and steel - and will combine transparency and lightness with a sense of intimacy. Lifted above the ground to give an appearance of 'floating' over the landscape, architect Robin Snell's design takes its cue from a traditional Japanese pavilion in its use of sliding screens, extended platforms, verandas and bridges to link it to the landscape.

Unusual Rigging, a regular supplier to Garsington Opera, has won the contract to coordinate the detailed design, procure specialist suppliers and to construct and commission the

UK - Playing nine arenas across the UK, Dr Who Live is in full swing. With 23 dates currently confirmed and multiple shows per day in main venues the tour needed a stage floor that could resist extermination. Le Mark's Consor floor was chosen.

The low profile Consor Stage Floor resists indentations allowing heavy items such as camera dollys, flight cases and the odd Dalek to roll over the floor with minimal drag. Most scuffs and marks are also easily removed with Le Mark's specialist cleaners keeping the floor looking fresh and presentable.

"We're now well into the tour and so far the floor has been brilliant, it works really well with the shows lighting and was a doddle to install" says Lianne Bruce, BBC deputy production manager for Dr Who Live.

UK - Euro-Crate is 5 Star Cases' new solution for transporting irregular shaped items safely and securely.

The concept is simple - the item requiring transportation is placed in the centre of the Euro-Crate base section, and then ratchet strapped to the inbuilt, aircraft grade alloy tie-down points. The required number of intermediate sections are placed on top to ensure the item is solidly packed before the lid is fastened on top.

"We spotted a gap in the market," explains 5 Star's head of technical design, Simon Edwards. "All manner of odd shaped and non-standard objects need transporting constantly, and this is a highly efficient, tough and cost-effective answer that's extremely quick and easy to pack."

Nominated in the best new product category for ESTA's Rock Our World Awards, the RSC Lightlock was chosen as the product which had the greatest impact on our industry in the last year.

The RSC Lightlock is a motion stabilizing device for moving head lighting fixtures, allowing them to be installed with a minimum of rigging equipment, removing the need for battens or trusses in the system. Its stabilization also allows the RSC Lightlock to be used with pantographs and motorized battens without the inherent movement caused by the moving head fixtures.

In its third year, this Rock Our Worlds programme has no real rules. The panel of judges, some of the best known people in our industry, has sole discretion on the number of awards to bestow and

USA - ANSI E1.15-2006, Entertainment Technology - Recommended Practices and Guidelines for the Assembly and Use of Theatrical Boom & Base Assemblies, is being considered for reaffirmation.

The public review forms are available at http://www.esta.org/tsp/documents/public_review_docs.php.
