UK - Sonic8 has been appointed to handle the UK distribution of Dateq professional audio products. With their roots in broadcast and DJ consoles, Dateq, based in The Netherlands, now also designs products for the installation market. "I was attracted to Dateq's range of installation products" states Stephen Helm, Sonic8's managing director, "as I feel that they are very well thought out and I believe that installers will share that feeling too. Initially we will be focusing on Dateq's sound limiters and MusiCall paging and audio routing system."

The MusiCall system is an audio matrix available in three formats: 8 mono/8 stereo/16 stereo audio source inputs routing through to 8 mono/8 stereo/16 stereo audio output zones respectively for amplifiers, or loudspeaker systems in, for example, a 100V system. MusiCall comes with a central control unit and can be easily programmed manually or by means of a PC with Windows software. Each serviced room or area can have its own wall-mounted LCD control panel through which audio source and volume changes can be made. An LCD display shows the name of the source being played and the current volume setting. Also available in the range is a quad FM tuner unit providing four stereo tuners with 30 selectable presets and an RDS decoder.

RDS information can be distributed through MusiCall and displayed on the LCD control panels. With more and more pubs and clubs having to install a limiter to ensure environmental compliance, Dateq offers five limiters which meet the highest standards available in sound control. The Dateq SPL limiters keep the real acoustical average sound pressure level below the set threshold while leaving short signal transients unharmed. The dynamics of the music thus remain completely natural. A clock is built-in to the TS limiters which splits each day into three timeslots allowing for the possibility to use a higher sound level during the day, while at night a lower level (legislated by the local authorities) is maintained.

The two companies will be on Stand HH75 at this year's PLASA Show.
