"We bought our first D5 in the spring of 2007, for a tour that had a D5 on the preferred list of desks," says Victory's Theis Wermuth. "We tested it, compared it to the other options and decided that the D5 was the right choice both for the tour and for our hire stock. The LightViper system runs 64 channels of audio from the stage to the front-of-house (FOH) mixing position, the monitor mix position and the broadcast truck, which also records the events. Both the FOH position and the broadcast truck also send 8-channel returns to the stage via the LightViper system.

The Opera House was comprehensively rebuilt in the late 90s, and further work over the past few years had seen the installation of an in-house broadcast centre and an associated sound control room. But following the purchase of DVD label Opus Arte in 2007, the plan has been to expand the number of performances at the ROH that are recorded for subsequent release on DVD with a 5.1 surround soundtrack, and the former sound control room, which wasn't equipped for surround monitoring and mixing, became a liability.
