Denmark - Recording engineer and producer Henrik Nilsson has recorded and mixed a variety of high profile live concerts for broadcast, including Metallica, Jean Michel Jarre, Massive Attack, Robbie Williams, the Roskilde and Skanderborg festivals. He recently bought Audiotruck dk to provide a versatile OB service.

Following a May refit, the truck's audio infrastructure is to the highest standard, handling digital audio via both MADI and Optocore. Two DiGiCo D-Racks are optically connected to the SD10B console. Meanwhile, MADI signals are routed via the truck's MADI splitter system to the SD10B.

The console is used to mix the show for live broadcast, routing up to 256 channels of digital audio to a Macintosh-based recording system running Steinberg Nuendo.

The equipment was installed by Danish audio specialists Soundware in less than a day, as the company's Kim Johansen repor

UK - Roland products have, for the second year running, taken centre stage at the Glastonbudget festival, a well established tribute act festival which takes place every year in Wymeswold, Leicestershire. With four stages and over 130 acts, the event has grown to attract over 7000 visitors over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Working closely with event production and rental company OneBigStar, the team from Roland Systems Group (RSG) put together a combination of products which covered all areas of the festival. This year saw the new M-480 live mixing console play a key role in the event, with one console controlling both FOH and monitors for the large outdoor stage and one console FOH in the big top tent, plus a Digital Snake set up on each of the four stages.

RSG took the opportunity of Glastonbudget to demonstrate the new M-480 digital console in the UK and to emphasise its c

UK - The Zombies, currently celebrating its 50thanniversary with a critically-acclaimed new album continue to tour - with a Yamaha LS9 ensuring that the sound is anything but zombie-like.

The past half century hasn't always been an easy time for The Zombies, but the famously wistful vocals of Colin Blunstone and keyboard / songwriting wizardryof Rod Argent have been a constant in the music industry, whether within the band context or on solo projects. For the past decade Blunstone and Argent have again been working under the Zombies banner, the line-up completed by guitarist Tom Toomey and father-and-son rhythm section, Jim and Steve Rodford.

With a world tour in the offing, the band's front of house engineer Dale Hanson has settled on the Yamaha LS9-32 as his console of choice, thanks to its compact size but comprehensive facilities.

"I got to know the LS9-32 by seeing

UK - A plethora of Midas digital consoles were again used across the Glastonbury festival this year, as RG Jones supplied XL4s with XL88 matrix mixer at FOH for the Pyramid stage, where they were used by acts including BB King, Wu-Tang Clan and Plan B. Many of the other acts on the Pyramid stage chose to bring their own Midas digital desks with them, including Biffy Clyro, Paolo Nutini, Morrissey and Pendulum.

On the Other Stage, Skan was also using its tried and trusted formula of two XL4s at FOH and two H3000s on stage. One of South West Audio's PRO6s was being used at FOH at The Park Stage as usual, where among the acts to play were Pulp and Radiohead, in secret appearances that The Park has become known for.

Marcus Dalmeida and Jerey Denning were running FOH for South West Audio at The Park. "We ran a system of writing patches in the offline editor in real time at FOH

Germany - The new, purpose-built MDR high definition television studio in Erfurt, where programmes for the popular children's channel Kika are filmed, has upgraded its lighting system to feature 28 ADB ALC4 multipurpose modular luminaires in the role of asymmetrical cyclorama lights.

A new studio and the show's switch to HD entailed a new concept in lighting. Camera operators at the 600sq.m studio at MDR's headquarters laid down a stringent specification for lighting the huge cyclorama - which has a curved base with a 1m radius that merges smoothly with the floor to avoid a hard lighting transition. This stipulated a maximum variation in lighting of +/- 70 lux across the cyclorama, within the cameras' operating range on Kika of between 300 and 500 lux.

Thomas Jacobs of ADB Germany, which supplied the new luminaires to MDR, said, "The existing facilities, with 90 kilowatts

Germany - Last month, the Johnny Cash Experience Band played a concert in the prison of Duisburg.

The set list corresponded to the original of Johnny Cash when he gave his most legendary concert in 1968 in the Folsom State Prison, California. For Rogge & Derks, supplier of event technologies, the installation works were an interesting experience. It was also an opportunity to deploy the new loudspeaker systems GRAVIS 12 and NOMOS LS from Kling & Freitag.

Top and bass were operated passively by means of the K&F SystemRack on only one channel. Thus, the PA system used only two of the four channels of a SystemRack. The two remaining channels permitted to operate one SCENA 15 monitor each for the musicians.

"The whole setup was operated on only one three-pin power socket, extremely simple and with excellent performance", said Oliver Derks from Rogge & Derks.

UK - Distributor Proel (International) has announced the launch of a new wireless in-ear monitoring system from JTS - the SIEM2

The SIEM2 joins the JTS range of microphones and professional audio products at a time when increasing numbers of performers are making the switch to in-ear monitoring and offers the usual JTS combination of a high quality professional specification product at an affordable price, says the company.

The SIEM2 also addresses a major objection from performers to the use of in-ear systems - the common complaint that they leave the user feeling isolated from audience feedback. With the SIEM-2, performers can connect an optional lavalier microphone to the beltpack, allowing them to hear stage and audience ambient noise.

Operating on channel 70, 863-865 MHz, the JTS SIEM2 is ready to go and licence free for use in the UK.

Germany - Steinberg Media Technologies has announced the shipping of the Rupert Neve Designs Portico 5033 EQ and 5043 compressor, two pro-audio VST/AU signal processing plug-ins, unveiled at this year's NAMM show. Each plug-in is available as boxed version at authorized Steinberg dealers and as boxed or download version.

Thanks to Yamaha's Virtual Circuitry Modeling (VCM) technology, the hardware of Rupert Neve Designs has now been successfully emulated in the digital domain, says Steinberg.

"At Yamaha and K's LAB, we apply very strict circuitry modelling if required. This way we can choose how to emulate the sound and tonality of each hardware unit accordingly," comments Toshifumi Kunimoto, general manager of the Corporate Research & Development Centre at Yamaha Corp. "We invest lengths of time to obtain the right sound."

Live Gigs' new system consists of 12 XLC 127 DVX, two Dx46 processors, and six CP4000S amps.

Easy rigging and easy setup were two of the reasons for the system acquisition, the other being the Electro-Voice Dx46. This IP-based DSP enables the user to control the complete system from front of house using wireless network protocols. Complete system control and supervision via IRIS-Net software and its easy-to-use GUI was an added feature. The amplifier and touring racks were supplied with Electro-Voice power and audio distribution panels.
