By means of a front and rear located woofer configuration, in combination with dedicated processing, the BC332 enables selectable cardioid low-frequency pattern control and excellent rear rejection (up to 18dB), without the need for additional cabinets.

On the front side, one 18" long-excursion woofer with 4-in. voice-coil with double-spider and demodulation ring frame, is mounted in a front-loaded configuration, with X-Venting; This newly designed reflex port takes more than 20% of the

UK - The Bristol Old Vic, one of Britain's most historic theatres, founded in 1766 by 50 merchants, lawyers and politicians, has been given a spectacular £12.26m makeover in the first phase of a major redevelopment.

Originally designed by the Bristol architect James Saunderson, the theatre is believed to be the oldest working theatre in the UK. Stage Electrics was awarded the contract to design and install a completely new technical infrastructure and production lighting, audio and communications systems. The project has been headed by consultants Charcoalblue with design by John Stevens and project management by John Woodley; architect Andrzej Blonski and builders Galliford Try.

Australia - September saw five very different acts take to the stage in Melbourne, Australia, as the city's RMIT University staged its seventh annual MAVIS showcase. With all of the production's technical tasks carried out by students, a highlight was the fact that they were able to get hands on with a DiGiCo SD7.

A collaboration between RMIT's Music Industry (Sound Production) and Audio Visual Technology departments, the MAVIS project is an opportunity for final year students to apply their skills in event planning, live sound, audio and visual recording in a professional setting, using industry standard equipment.

This year they were faced with a variety of acts, performing on two stages. The music ranged from cartoon metal warlords Barbariön, country rockers Alford's Band of Bullwinkles and psychedelic beatniks Wolfy & The Bat Cubs to singer/songwriter Violetta Delconte Ra

The Netherlands - The Gelredome in Arnhem was sold out recently for the world premiere of a new production of the truck-busting, ear-crunching spectacle known as Monster Jam.

For the first time in the worldwide history of Monster Jam, the event brought together the world's biggest monster trucks, along with daredevil demo riders and, of course, the FMX-ers from Team Marvel and Team Destruction - creating the largest ever extreme sports battle.

Last year almost 70 Powersoft Duecanali amplifiers were installed in the Gelredome arena by TM Audio. Olaf Landzaat created the system design and headed the installation team. In collaboration with Italian engineers at Powersoft, a custom-made Media Matrix plugin was written, enabling the amps to be integrated into the system seamlessly.

The house system at the Gelredome (also installed by TM Audio several years ago) has

UK - After its illustrious past as a cinema, the landmark Scala at London's Kings Cross has now been firmly established by director Ryan Bissett as a popular alternative live music, club and arts venue.

Since the venue also hosts LAE Live Audio engineering diploma courses, it depends on showcasing the best in production technology. Recently it upgraded its mixing consoles and now standardises on Soundcraft platforms, which can be found in both the house and stage positions.

Three and a half years after purchasing a 32-channel Soundcraft MH3 from dealers Crystal Pro Audio, head of sound George Gregori gave the go-ahead for the purchase of a new Soundcraft Si Compact 32 from the same suppliers - giving them a matched channel count at both ends.

The desk was specified by head sound engineer Dave Preston, who earlier reviewed several other options in the same category before dec

Remarkably, the audio mains were about as compact as it gets: at only 790kg - in

China - DPA Microphones' new hand held d:facto Vocal Microphone made its debut on Chinese television this summer when it was used extensively during the production of The Voice of China, a show produced and screened by Zhejiang Satellite TV that topped the nationwide ratings.

Based on the same concept as NBC's The Voice, the Chinese show featured four judges/coaches who used blind auditions to identify teams of singers they wanted to work with during the series. The prize for the winning artist, Liang Bo, was a recording contract.

Heading up sound production for the show was Mr Jin Shao Gang, a noted sound designer and one of China's most important sound engineers. During an extensive and illustrious career, Mr Jin has worked with many of the country's top recording artists and was also heavily involved in the opening ceremony for the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Yet he also possesses traits familiar to d&b and like so many within the company, he once aspired to be a musician and still maintains a passio

ASX Group has gradually transitioned its audio delivery infrastructure from expensive leased line and copper circuit connections to an IP streaming solution. The latest phase focuses on the central announcement system, repla

UK - The NME Awards event takes place on Wednesday 27 February 2013 at East London venue, Troxy, honouring some of the biggest and best artists today and celebrating the best in new music.

A new venue for 2013's NME Awards, Troxy has a rich music heritage and has become known for hosting some of the hottest live music events in London. The 1930's art deco building, which originally opened as a cinema, still has many of its original features.

NME editor Mike Williams says, "I'm incredibly excited to be able to announce that the NME Awards 2013 will be held at The Troxy, one of London's oldest, coolest and most iconic venues. It's no secret that East London has been buzzing for a few years now, but with the afterglow of the Olympics still burning bright and a renewed sense of pride in all things British, now is the time for the NME Awards - itself a British institution - to

USA - Since its founding in 1891, Holy Spirit Catholic Church has held a special place in the hearts of Philadelphia-area residents. In the early years of the twentieth century, the church forged a reputation as one of the few non-segregated churches and parochial schools in the region.

Dedicated in 1961, Holy Spirit's current sanctuary is a welcoming space, resplendent with ornate woodcarvings, wrought iron, and magnificent stained glass, including perhaps one of the only works commemorating John Fitzgerald Kennedy's inauguration as the country's first Catholic president.

But the same elements that make the sanctuary so beautiful to behold also make it a rather acoustically challenging space. As Tony Albano of Avondale, PA-based Naamans Creek Audio Video explains, the room's configuration is anything but ordinary.

"It's a very different type of room," says Albano.

The offices have spacious, well equipped demo rooms, allowing the roadshow sessions to be hosted on site. Approximately fifty people attended each session, which were also recorded for later use.

"I have had great feedback from our technicians and customers, who all gained insight into Allen & Heath's digital products,&qu

UK - It would be difficult to imagine a more high profile launch for a new loudspeaker system than a highly prestigious event at London's Royal Albert Hall, in front of over 10,000 paying guests across two performances. This was exactly what UK loudspeaker manufacturer EM Acoustics did when they debuted their HALO Compact line array for the UK premiere of Disney's Fantasia live in concert with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Sound By Design is the preferred audio supplier for the Royal Albert Hall and a company that enjoys a long-standing relationship with EM Acoustics. As the company responsible for the live sound for the BBC Proms season, along with countless orchestral shows in the venue, they brought in renowned classical sound engineer Phil Wright, who specialises in mixing large scale classical events and musical theatre, and who mixed this event on a DiGiCo SD5.

UK - After considering all the possible contenders, sound engineer Roger Lindsay decided the Midas XL8 console was the appropriate front-of-house mixing console to address and match the complex demands of the recent sell-out arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar.

With a 10-piece live band and over 40 vocalists, all individually mic'd, Lindsay required a console that not only offered a high channel count but also gave him maximum direct control of parameters at console surface level.

The complex musical direction and dynamic pace presented a real challenge, even for a seasoned live engineer like Lindsay. "From start to finish there's no time to relax with so much going on. The way a Lloyd-Webber rock musical works in an arena environment is very different to a conventional band with just a few live vocals. We're running around 50 channels for the band, which is not e
