France - One of the country's most culturally important theatres, the Théâtre National Populaire (TNP) has been at the heart of contemporary French performing arts for over 90 years. Moving from Paris to Villeurbanne 40 years ago, a comprehensive refurbishment has seen a Yamaha digital audio system installed in the theatre's two performance spaces.

The aptly named Grand Théâtre and Petit Théâtre feature auditoriums seating 667 and 252 respectively, alongside rehearsal rooms and other facilities. After major refurbishment of the buildings, Vénissieux-based Scenetec was contracted to design and install the new technical infrastructure in both venues.

"Before the refurbishment, the auditoriums were more-or-less still as they had been in the 1970s, so it was the ideal opportunity to completely update the technical specification to modern standar

UK - An Allen & Heath iLive digital mixing system is currently on a national tour of the UK with the hit musical, Bugle Boy, which traces the life, career and mysterious disappearance of the late bandleader and composer Glenn Miller.

The system is based around an iLive-T112 Control Surface and an iDR-48 MixRack fitted with a MADI network card.

"I first saw the modular iLive system at a PLASA show a few years ago, so when the compact fixed-format iLive-T Series came along, I decided to take the plunge and purchase a system. It has eliminated a 20U rack of outboard at FOH, made the FOH footprint much smaller and made fit-up/get-out times so much quicker. The get-out on this tour typically takes less than an hour, with FOH being able to be packed away in ten minutes," comments Andy Onion, Bugle Boy's sound designer and operator.

"The upcoming change in the frequency window of what we're allowed to use in Australia was an important factor in the purchases," he remarked. "The 780 - 820 MHz range will become progressively unusable or illegal to use in Australia at a certain point in the future so we needed to change at some point."

Having used the Shure UHF-R systems extensively over the past few months, Wilkie reports that their performance has been terrific.

"They're a lot more flexible and easier to set up than their predecessor," he said. "The IR to program the be

Announcing the series, Optocore director, Tine Helmle, said: "We believe this to be the best solution for the professional AV market, largely because it is now a common standard - with MADI ports frequently used by manufacturers to offer clients a future-proofed, open platform, with price advantages."
