Spain - Over the past few years D.A.S. Audio Aero 50 systems have been handled by hundreds of national and international sound engineers in festivals around the world. After listening to their feedback and combining this with listening tests and a battery of measurements to determine the real effects on the Aero 50s, D.A.S. Audio has updated the presets for the control and digital processing of the Aero 50 systems.

The major technical features of the new presets include: modification of the systems HPF cut to 80 Hz, the same as the LX-218 subwoofers; modification of the cross-over slope between the 15" and 8", offering higher definition for the mid-bass zones while also protecting the 8"; increase in the 8" HPF cut to 200 Hz, which provides higher definition and component protection.

The new Aero 50 V5.5 presets are completely compatible with the three main

Denmark - Schouw & Co., parent company of Martin Professional, has entered into an agreement with the global 'infotainment' and audio company Harman International Industries to sell Martin to Harman. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and is expected to close in Q1 2013.

Through this new combination of two worldwide industry leaders, Harman and Martin believe that their comprehensive offering of audio, lighting and video solutions for the live stage and events, as well as permanent venues and installations, will 'provide new, exciting opportunities and will take customer satisfaction to even higher levels'.

This transaction will create a one-stop-shop for the professional entertainment market. Adding Martin to Harman's USD $4.4 billion organization and combining two of the largest R&D budgets in the audio and entertainme

UK - Turbosound has today announced the appointment of Sean Martin to head up international sales for the brand, with overall responsibility for the company's home market and its widespread export markets.

Martin has over 30 years experience at an international level with some of the industry's best known brands including an earlier four-year period with Turbosound in the late '90s - where he presided over one of the company's strongest growth periods resulting in its second Queen's Award for Export Achievement - during which time he acquired a comprehensive knowledge of the pro audio industry's distribution network and built strong personal relationships.

He fills the international sales role recently vacated by outgoing sales director Dominic Harter, who has steered Turbosound's sales and product strategy for almost 10 years, leading up to a further Queen's Award - this time

USA - The Bethel Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, recently added a new Vision Centre that houses additional Sunday school rooms, office space, as well as a large kitchen and multi-purpose fellowship area and stage.

The church leadership tapped Tony Parker, co-owner of Parkers Productions located in Statesville, NC, to design and install a sound system for the Vision Centre.

Because the room hosts everything from theatrical performances on a large recessed stage to basketball games, the new system needed to be able to accommodate an assortment of live events. In addition, the room was typical of a gymnasium with a 28-foot ceiling, metal roof, tile floors, plenty of hard surfaces and no acoustic treatment to speak of.

"Bethel Baptist Church has been a customer for seven years," explains Parker. "When they started construction on the new facili

UK - RCF's powerful Acustica series, especially tuned for nightclubs, has been specified throughout No Saints' new flagship nightclub, Wonderland in Maidstone.

The former 1800-capacity Liquid has been reshaped, from a circular into square dancefloor in the vast main room (called 'Tomorrow') with four pairs of the new H1312 throwing tightly dispersed, directional energy onto the dancefloor from their position high up on the lighting rig.

Says the club's head of promotions, Richie Carrera, "The sound system competes with anything you will find in a UK nightclub. It's as close to a Ministry of Sound experience as you will get."

The three-way system, run in biamped mode, incorporate a 12" woofer, a 8" cone midrange and a 1" exit titanium compression driver for long throw applications, and is complemented by four floor-standing TTS28 subs - two in front o

USA - Carnival, the wildly festive celebration popular in areas with sizeable Catholic and, to a lesser extent, Eastern Orthodox populations, has its roots among most of the islands in the Caribbean. While the largest and most well-known celebrations are held in Trinidad and Tobago, these festivals are also common here in the United States. Toward the close of the summer season, Carnival celebrations occurred in Atlantic City, NJ, Brooklyn, NY, and Miami, FL. At all three events, loudspeaker systems drawn from the Aero and Aero Series 2 catalogues of D.A.S. Audio played a major role in the music heavy celebrations.

Advanced Audio of NY, NY, a live sound services company that specialises in the pro touring and special events markets, was contracted to provide audio systems at both the Atlantic City, NJ and Brooklyn, NY Carnival celebrations. At each event, D.A.S. Aero Series 2 lo

UK - Located in central Leeds, the West Yorkshire Playhouse provides top-class theatrical performance facilities for audiences throughout the region and beyond. It is a producing theatre which creates its own shows for both in-house production and national touring, whilst also collaborating frequently with other major regional theatres. Numerous shows have transferred to the West End from Leeds, the most recent being Loserville which premiered at London's Garrick Theatre in October 2012.

The Playhouse also provides one of the country's most comprehensive arts education programmes, working with schools and young people in addition to offering a range of initiatives for adults and community groups. UK - West Street Live, Sheffield's only venue to offer live music seven nights a week, has taken delivery of an HK Audio ConTour Series PA system, supplied and installed by Sheffield-based Audio Engineering Services.

The front of house system comprises two CT115 tops and four CT118 subs (with two subs and a top stacked each side of the stage) - all driven by a Lab.gruppen C88:4 four channel amplifier - and is supplemented by four L5 112XA active monitors from HK's recently introduced Linear 5 range.

When the venue decided it was time for a new sound system, they turned to Andy Fisher of Audio Engineering Services. Being a long-time HK Audio user, with an extensive inventory of the ConTour Series and other HK systems, Fisher knew a ConTour rig would be the right choice. To prove the proposed system would be capable of handling the eclectic mix of bands featured at WSL, he arran

USA - For nearly 60 years Milne Stadium has been home to generations of Albuquerque's local sporting events. Recently the 6500-seat arena received a wide-ranging makeover, including a new playing surface, new paint and stucco, and a new audio system featuring Community R-Series loudspeakers.

As Sound and Signal Systems' William Hartley explains, the stadium's previous sound system had been problematic for some time. "A few years ago they installed a new scoreboard behind the end zone, complete with a long-throw, single-point line array system. A lot of sound was reflecting off the concrete and glass press box. The problem is, the stadium is surrounded on three sides by the city and the freeway, but the side opposite the press box faces a residential area."

UK - Kensington Close Hotel & Spa recently completed an impressive £40m renovation in celebration of its 50th anniversary, and this extension project included new conference and banqueting suites.

But situated in a prestigious London location, just off High Street Kensington, the hotel wanted to improve its sound containment, and so brought in CP Sound's Colin Pattenden. In addition to advising on acoustic treatment the technician sought the optimum sound system for the flagship, 230 seat Balmoral event room, since this is reconfigurable between one or two spaces, and operable in theatre, classroom, party or boardroom modes.

"The council had suggested that the hotel look at sound thresholds and I put together a scenario I knew would work - based on JBL's new PRX 400 series," explained the CP Sound MD.

USA - Armenian symphony orchestra and choir KOHAR has enjoyed remarkable success since it was formed 25 years ago. Performing across the world, the ensemble recently returned from a series of shows in South America, at which three Yamaha CL5 digital consoles were utilised.

With over 140 musicians, a choir, 12 solo singers and a dance troupe of 11 to accommodate, the shows required a flexible audio system with a large channel capacity and reliable connectivity, but which was easy to implement. Hamburg-based Pinguin Audio Production asked Arthur Koll from Yamaha Music Europe GmbH to act as the tour's Live and Broadcast Audio Consultant, supervising the system design and deployment for the elaborate show.

The system comprised one CL5 at the monitor position and two more at front of house - one doing submixes which were fed via Dante to the other two consoles. Thanks to their smal

UK- With viewing figures approaching three million, BBC1's Saturday Kitchen is one of the most successful Saturday morning television shows of the past decade.

Recently its production company, Cactus TV, started working with Prolink Television Facilities, who in turn brought the many benefits of a DiGiCo SD10B mixing console to the show.

Established in 1989, Prolink supplies equipment and staff to many of the world's highest profile broadcasters, including the BBC and ITV, and a large portfolio of production companies. When leading Production Company Cactus TV was looking to move both to new premises and into High Definition broadcasting, the company took the opportunity to consider potential new partners and chose Prolink.

"We provide anything from a single man and single camera through to OB trucks, permanent installations as per Saturday Kitchen and som

UK - West London-based rental company Entec renewed its long working relationship with both FOH engineer Paul Ramsay and UK rockers band Skunk Anansie, who kicked off their Black Traffic tour with UK and European dates.

Ramsay has worked with the band since 1996 - and also with Entec as audio contractors for that period - although the band took an eight year hiatus between 2001 and their much acclaimed reformation in 2009.

Once again a d&b system was specified (as it was on their very first production tour back in 1996) .. however there has been considerable system and technical evolutions since then.

This time the d&b was a J-Series line array, and this was looked after on the road by Entec's James Kerridge and Richard Gibson.

The venues varied between 1200 and 12,000 capacities, so the key was having a system that was fully - and easily - adaptable, straightforwar

Angola - Maybe it is because Luanda - the capital city of Angola - lies south of the Equator that news of a major event has only just reached these shores; for back in late summer a major tri-Wi wireless audio system was used at the closing ceremony of the MPLA 2012 Angolan legislative election.

The event took place in the Camama Stadium 11 de Novembro in front of an audience of 100.000 and featured several major Angolan artists and the President of Angola himself, José Eduardo dos Santos who delivered the main speech.

Clearly, presidents like to be heard and, being no exception, José Eduardo dos Santos' words were distributed to an audience covering some 110.000sq.m by a large Adamson Y-Axis system powered by LAB gruppen amplifiers. Three delay towers, each situated some 500m from the main PA and equipped with tri-Wi Rx units, were fed their respective audio sig

USA - The Ohio State Buckeyes football team finished an undefeated regular season with a boost from its new Meyer Sound LEO linear large-scale sound reinforcement system. In this first permanent LEO installation in the world, the sound system filled the vast 105,000-seat Ohio Stadium with crisp voice announcements and fan-pumping music over the loud, energetic crowd for all eight home games.

The core LEO system is anchored by twin hangs of 14-each LEO-M line array loudspeakers with bass bolstered by ten 1100-LFC low-frequency control elements. A Galileo® Callisto loudspeaker management system with two Callisto 616 array processors supplies drive and optimization. Mounted inside the video screen scoreboard structure at the south end of the mammoth oval, the potent LEO system projects sound across the bowl, reaching over 900 feet to the top seats on the north end.

USA - Cerwin-Vega! recently launched its new P-Series professional PA system, with events at the Gibson Showrooms in New York and Los Angeles. This new product, from the Gibson Pro Audio brand, was put to the test by artists such as DJ Premier, The Dirty Pearls, echosmith and DJ Serafin. Suited for any sound reinforcement application, from live performances to public speeches, the P-Series P1500X speakers were used both as monitor wedges and stacked with the P1800SX subwoofers for full amplification.

The performance in New York on Thursday, 6 December, took place at the former Hit Factory Studios and featured performances by DJ Premier and The Dirty Pearls. As guests made their way into the showroom, Scratch DJ Academy guru, DJ Henry C, mixed songs from today's top 100 list on Stanton STR.150 turntables, with his beats blasting through the P-Series. USA - Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill, named after the singer's 2003 hit, I Love This Bar specialises in classic American fare, from food and drink to country music. The chain put a strong emphasis on great sound when specifying sound systems for the clubs, seizing on the rider-friendly MidasPRO2 as its console of choice.

Handling the A/V systems for the chain is LiveSpace, a Michigan-based design/build and live events company. "The first PRO2 we installed was in the Dallas location," says LiveSpace president Josh Maichele. "It was the third PRO2 shipped in the US. The price point of the console for the amount of versatility, usability and sound quality we get out of it has been a big home run for us."

With the success of the chain's early locations, LiveSpace was brought on board to create a cohesive, professional presentation as Toby Keith's I

USA / Europe - 2012 has been a banner year for the Meyer Sound MINA line array loudspeaker, the smallest and youngest member of the MILO family line array loudspeakers, the company reports. Dozens of new installations in small- to medium- sized theatres have come online around the world, and MINA's exceptional power-to-size ratio has made it a highly adaptable workhorse for Meyer Sound rental companies in a range of applications.

European AV companies including PRG, POOLgroup, Creative Technology Germany, Dushow, and Blue Noise have deployed MINA as the main, front-fill, side-fill, and under-balcony systems in their work of all genres and scales. To name a few examples, MINA has been used during an auto show in Paris, symphonic showcases, a soccer season opening, numerous corporate events, and on tour with Udo Jürgens and Michel Sardou.

In North America, MINA provided support

USA - California's San Mateo Union High Schools District is currently in the process of remodelling - and, in some instances, totally replacing - the theatres of six of its high schools: Aragon, Burlingame, Capuchino, Hillsdale, Mills, and the flagship San Mateo location. Theatre consulting for each of the venues was provided by San Francisco's Shalleck Collaborative, which specified L-Acoustics loudspeaker systems throughout.

Two of the projects - the new 614-capacity Aragon venue and refurbished 90-year-old Burlingame space with 593 seats and reopened balcony - have already now been completed. Both rooms feature left and right arrays comprised of six Kiva elements flown beneath a single SB18 and driven by LA4 amplified controllers.

The remaining four theatres are all scheduled for completion prior to the start of the 2013-14 school year. Two of the schools boast nearly 800 s

China - Recording at high altitudes is not something most sound engineers tackle every day, so when Danish producer and engineer Hans Nielsen, of Focus Recording Studios, was asked to record a choir of 500 monks in a Chinese temple that was over 4,000m above sea level, he knew he would need a very resilient microphone to cope with the challenging conditions.

"I've always been a big fan of DPA Microphones and have used them regularly for over 25 years," Nielsen says. "When I realised this project involved recording at high altitude I knew I had to take my DPA microphones with me because they were the only mics I could rely on to capture the high quality sound I wanted in such extreme conditions."

Hans Nielsen was recording the album with internationally acclaimed folk singer and song writer Sa Ding Ding. A mix of Han and Mongol ancestry, Sa Ding Ding sings i

USA - Mixing veteran Jeff Peterson wrapped work recently on two high-profile gigs: Spike TV's Video Game Awards and CNN's Heroes: An All-Star Tribute. Peterson mixed both the production elements and live bands on an SD5 console provided by Hi-Tech Audio in conjunction with ATK. Peterson landed 112 inputs from two 56-pair splitters into two DiGiCo SD racks, with signals traveling to and from the consoles via an Optocore fiber optic network. Two 56ch ATK splitters were used on both shows to split signals between the SD Racks, monitors (in the case of CNN) and the broadcast trucks.

"On CNN Heroes, I had the only DiGiCo console," Peterson recalls. "Monitors were handled on a PM5D. On The Video Game awards, my FOH SD5 and a [stage monitor] foldback SD10 shared two DiGiCo SD Racks backstage for 112 inputs and 64 outputs divided between the two consoles. Wh
