BSc (Hons) Lighting Design & Technology Award Leader Stuart Green commented: "Philips Lighting has been very generous in agreeing to donate a substantial amount of architectural lighting equipment to support our courses. International Project Consultant Simon White from BEGA also gave a guest lecture to students and donated a number of luminaires for student use."
The BSc (Hons) Lighting Design and Technology and BSc (Hons) Live Event Technology awards are already supported by equipment from some of the leading industry players, which are essential to give students exposure to the latest industry standard hardware and software. However, the Philips deal is the largest to date and will help significantly with the practical elements of both courses. The intake for these courses has continued to grow this academic year as demand remains high. Glamorgan is attracting high calibre students to both awards from across the UK and the University's reputation for these courses is beginning to spread overseas.
Programme Leader Dr. Akram Hammoudeh added: "We are delighted with the support offered by both Philips and BEGA - this further endorses our work at Glamorgan in providing the best equipment and facilities for our students."
It is estimated the entertainment industry will require an additional 30,000 trained technicians over the next decade.
