Davidson has a long and distinguished track record in the British film and music recording industries. He spent 18 years in various technical and managerial roles at Townhouse and Olympic Studios in London, before moving to Abbey Road Studios, also part of the EMI Studio Group. Most recently, he served as operations manager of the famous De Lane Lea film and TV post-production facilities in central London. He has also completed several consultancy projects in the studio sector.
His move to Technical Earth came about after a suggestion made to Fredericks over a dinner with Ian Jones, MD of HHB. It was firmed up after a few beers and a curry with Davidson. Fredericks says: "I remember Ian as one of those figures I really looked up to when I first came into this business back in the Eighties, so it's a great privilege now to welcome him into my company."
As Davidson joins Fredericks and Dan Page in the front ranks of Technical Earth, the company is already recognised as one of the UK's leading specialist sales, service and technical resources for the pro-audio market. Having moved into larger premises in north London last year, Technical Earth is steadily raising its profile as an official manufacturer's service agency. It already represents the UK service interests of manufacturers such as Digidesign, Apogee, Mackie and KRK, and is actively seeking to increase its stable of brands.
Fredericks is also aiming to expand the company's business as a specialist product distributor. Having been the British face of the Marathon rackmount range of products for over 5 years, Technical Earth continues to represent Magma and Gefen amongst other lines. It is confident that the newly-enhanced level of technical expertise within the organisation will attract other manufacturers, keen to benefit from a high standard of user support for their products.
Davidson's expertise in the studio sector will be especially relevant when it comes to Technical Earth's system design and installation business. "I'll be working with Dan, liaising with end-users and customers, both new and existing," says Davidson. "My role will be to provide a more hands-on proactive approach, building productive relationships with both customers and suppliers."
Given Fredericks' long experience in the live touring sector, the company has been commissioned to build a number of bespoke touring systems, incorporating Fredericks' own custom-designed and hand-crafted audio hardware. These have been supplied to prestigious clients including The War of the Worlds, Madonna and Robbie Williams.
