LiteStructures was called in to build the stage set. John Roe, LiteStructures' sales representative said: "When Sean Cavanagh, the set designer came to us asking for something tough but attractive enough to keep up with the glitzy Las Vegas image, ClearDeck was the obvious choice. A version of LiteStructures' LiteDeck, fitted with clear, hard surface treated polycarbonate, ClearDeck is so strong, it's bullet proof so definitely able to withstand night after night of energetic dance routines. But it's also transparent, allowing it to be lit from underneath to produce some quite striking effects."
Throughout the show, the stage, which is built in three tiers (a ground level stage, a series of steps and a platform for the 15-piece orchestra) is lit in an array of colours depending on the mood of the songs. The show's director, Mitch Sebastian, explains: "We were keen to create an illusion of fantasy, in a way which causes the audience to question whether the show is the real thing or whether they're watching three spirits re-uniting for one final performance. Working with ClearDeck, the lighting designer Mark Wheatley was able to achieve this perfectly. It's a very simple set but the effects we've produced really sweep you away in the Las Vegas atmosphere."
ClearDeck comes in modular units and is easy to assemble and de-rig. It can be used to cover a stage entirely or can be placed in any pattern amongst regular black LiteDeck units, making it suitable for lavish theatrical productions or even for fashion, exhibition or corporate events. Andy Sharrocks, production manager at Flying Music, has bought a duplicate set for a future Rat Pack tour.
