The Edinburgh Fringe is renowned for being the largest arts festival in the world, show producers, ACP Productions Ltd, commissioned Utopium to supply lighting rig for the BBC stage as well as outside screen supports and entrance way arches for its festival garden.
The festival showcases multitudes of talent from big name artists, such as comedians Ed Byrne and Dara O'Briain alongside complete unknowns who perform live from various stages around Scotland's capital city. The BBC stage was used as the hub for radio stations to broadcast live from the festival, which included Radio 1 DJs Phil Taggart and Alice Levine, the Today show and Just a Minute.
To create the desired atmosphere, Utopium utilised a wide range of equipment including 40 Showtec Sunstrip Active DMXs, 16 Chauvet Q-Spot 460 LED Profiles, 2000w Fresnel and Source4s for audience lighting and cover.
Jon Newman project manager for Utopium commented, "It has been an exciting month providing lighting rig for the BBC stage at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Due to the nature of the show, we had to ensure we installed flexible and versatile lighting as the stage was used for various purposes. We had two crew members on rotation who made sure each performance had exactly what they wanted when they wanted it. Our experience working on the festival for the last two years gave us the confidence and logistical efficiency to ensure our lighting translated successfully."
