UK - This August Green Hippo held its first Asian distributor seminar in the UK. The timing was chosen to conclude the company's recent push to expand their dealer structure in Asia and was attended by partners from China, Japan and South East Asia.

The four-day seminar gave everyone at Green Hippo and their Asian partners a chance to meet face-to-face, introducing people who work together on a daily basis.

Green Hippo's marketing & sales director James R. Heron kicked off the workshops with a general company overview and an update on recent developments bringing all attendees up-to-speed.

Subsequently, everyone received a full day of HippoSchool training with Green Hippo's head of training Simon Harris, covering all the major features of the Hippotizer media server range, including the new LiveMask and UberPan components.

UK - Ross Ashton's, The Projection Studio is once again wowing the crowds with projected visuals onto the walls of Edinburgh Castle for the 2011 Military Tattoo.

The show action takes place on the Esplanade down below in the centre of the Tattoo's completely new £16m amphitheatre, which is installed for the first time, with new seating tribunes, VIP Boxes, a special projection platform, a large corporate hospitality area and improved site lines all round.

A purpose built climate controlled projection control room is also part of the new design, along with lift access for the third floor of the production and FOH control areas at the back of the seating stand.

In practical terms, the elevator has speeded up the projection get-in enormously, as the equipment no longer has to be craned into place.

Europe - XL Video continues the worldwide supply of production video equipment and crew for Arcade Fire for the final UK and European festival leg of their tour.

This follows the massive success of their third album, The Suburbs, which topped the charts in many territories on release including the UK and US, and is shortlisted for the 2011 Polaris Music Prize.

The tour originally kicked off last year in the US, project managed for XL by Phil Mercer out of the LA office. In the UK and Europe, it is being managed by Jo Beirne.

China - Ross Ashton from London- based The Projection Studio and Himanshu Sabharwal of Delhi-based Two's A Film Company were guests at Christie Digital's 2011 Asia Pacific Partners Meeting, where their collaborative project to produce India's first permanent full moving image son et lumière - ISHQ-e-DILLI - The Love of Delhi - won the 'Special Mention Award'.

The Awards ceremony was staged in the atmospheric Reed Flute Caves in Guilin, Guangxi, China.

The Projection Studio were the technical, design and installation consultants for the projection hardware and control elements of the project and also responsible for overseeing the creation of the project's show material, for which Ashton specified the first Christie 20K video projectors to be used in India for a son et lumière application.

InfoComm International will continue its programme of support for the UK's AV rental and staging community when it hosts a range of education sessions at PLASA 2011.

The sessions will take place at London's Earls Court on Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 September. They will be led by Andre LeJeune, CTS, InfoComm's Rental & Staging Staff Instructor, who has more than 30 years' experience of staging and presentation and has been responsible for many large-scale productions for corporate clients around the world.

Topics covered will include 'Lighting for Video in the Large Meeting Environment', 'Audio Techniques for Corporate AV Events', and 'Project Management for Stage Labour'. Each session will last 90 minutes and will earn attendees 1.5 RUs (Renewal Units) towards continued InfoComm CTS certification. All sessions are free to attend.

CableJoG will be launching its latest cable tester, the Avjog, at PLASA 2011. The Avjog is designed to assist in the installation and maintenance of AV cabling in schools, universities, theatres and stadiums. It is the latest cable tester produced by CableJoG Limited, designed by Eddie Zych and manufactured in the North West of England.

The Avjog provides a two-box solution to testing installed cables where both ends of the cable cannot be plugged into a single tester. Each box carries a wide range of connectors as used in AV industry applications, i.e. DVI, HDMI, SCART, VGA, RJ-45, DIN, USB, XLR, Jack, Phono, BNC and Coaxial.

UK - Manchester-based lighting rental company dbn supplied large scale spectacular architectural lighting to Culture Liverpool for a special event celebrating both the 100th anniversary of the iconic Liver Building and the opening of the new Museum of Liverpool - the largest newly-built national museum in Britain for more than a century - both located on the City's famous Pier Head waterfront.

dbn's team was led by Pete Robinson. This year's show is the platform for the launch of ArKaos' new network protocol, Kling-Net, a protocol designed specifically to allow the distribution of real-time video data to remote display devices, like LEDs or LED panels, over Ethernet.

Kling-Net can transform the simplest of LED devices into an intelligent Kling-Net device that can talk to, and be controlled by, a Media Server. UK - Lee House has joined Green Hippo in London as product manager for the firm's Hippotizer Media Server range.

House has a strong background in the world of lighting and AV, having previously worked at Flying Pig, High End Systems and most recently AC Entertainment Technologies. His role at AC was to build up the newly founded video division three years ago, a role which led him to gain advanced knowledge of the Hippotizer server range.

UK - Following success at ProLight&Sound earlier this year, Christie's new-look theatre arrives at Earls Court this weekend to take up its PLASA position in Hall 1, Stand E18. The Christie stand will once again present an integrated light show with video animations using Christie Nitro Solutions. Previewed at PLASA last year, this modular series of motorised moving yokes can provide up to 22,000 ANSI lumens of video projection, with the flexibility to allow the user to deploy the yoke with either a video projector or a LED light head.

Noted lighting director Bruno Corsini is tasked with creating and choreographing the show in a convergence of video and lighting-derived patterns. Corsini has a long list of accomplishments, including last year's landmark lightshow for Mexico's Bicentennial of Independence in the Mexican capital's main square.
