Europe - Panasonic will next month (November) release the world's shortest throw detachable lens for 3-chip DLP projectors.

The new ET-D75LE90 ultra-short throw lens allows projection distance to be shortened by approximately 60 per cent compared to traditional short throw lenses, meaning savings in space and opening up new areas for projection.

When the lens is installed on a 3-chip DLP projector, a 200 inch screen can be created from just 1.5m; compared to a distance of four metres with a traditional lens.

The new lens complements Panasonic's existing ultra-short throw lens designed for 1-chip DLP projectors (ET-DLE030). Both lenses offer installers maximum flexibility and are backwards compatible with older projector models.

3D visualisation solutions specialist, EON Reality, have used Panasonic ultra-short throw lenses to create an immersive multi-wall environment in w

Trevor Booth, technical director at Sunbaba, comments, "We hung one of our mesh fabrics in front of the same image on a solid fabric, both finished with a special silicone keder. We have tried a number of variations over the years, but this is the first time we have been able to combine the two graphics in a single frame."

USA - Successful TV producers have a knack for spotting and locking up budding talent, be it a performer, writer, designer or other creative type. Nothing out of the ordinary about that - but it is highly unusual when the 'talent' that's tapped is a lighting fixture. Such was the case recently on the set of Bet on Your Baby, when the show's producers told lighting director Adam Portelli that they wanted to include the Nexus 4x4 panels in the next project they did together.

Portelli and lighting designer Michael Veerkamp, both of Team Imagination, added the Nexus panels provided by the Los Angeles office of 4Wall Entertainment Lighting to the hit game show for its second season.

"Our lighting team was new to the show this season and we wanted to give things a refreshed look, while still retaining the program's signature feel, which has been so popular," said Po

UK - When TEDAV was commissioned by Wiltshire Council to fit out Springfield Community Campus in Corsham, integrating all the comms and AV, project manager Gee Edwards decided to conceptually design a digital end-to-end system, incorporating protocols common to the Harman Pro (JBL, BSS, Soundcraft and AKG) components, distributed in the UK and Eire by Sound Technology.

The result is an intuitive plug and play system which networks the main and second room or allows each to function as stand-alone. For example, the gym/dance studio (Room 2) can double as a Green Room for the main 200 capacity presentation space by accessing the different presets in the BSS Soundweb DSP.

With a removable 28 sq.m stage, the large Multi-Performance Activity Space (Room 1) is designed to host performances, lectures and conferences and other leisure activities, with direct access to an exhibition br

Europe - Panasonic is set to launch its first 4K professional large display, when a 98" LED LCD starts shipping this month (November), with an 84" model released in January. USA - Part of North Point Ministries, Inc, Buckhead Church in Atlanta, Georgia, is a 15-year-old establishment with a 3000-seat auditorium which hosts four services every Sunday.

The church is in the process of growing its technical equipment to enrich the quality of its in-services. Part of this expansion involves the increased use of media and lighting to add to the dynamic format of the services.

Video forms a main element of the set designs: video imagery is projected onto set pieces or run through plasma screens on stage and used as a backdrop to performances. This is enhanced by the generous use of LED lighting. The set is changed every four months to keep things fresh and new for the church attenders.

Images of the pastor, who alternates between Buckhead Church and North Point Community Church, two of the six NPMi campuses in the greater Atlanta area, are also project

UK - Lighting and visuals designer Dan Robinson has just finished his third tour with UK singer and musician John Newman, which ramped up production values with the help of XL Video who supplied an LED screen / mini-cam and control package plus crew.

Newman and his management team have always believed in investing in great looking live shows, which has enabled Dan to creatively evolve the look and feel of the performances since he started working with the artist last year at a show at Settle Village Hall - Newman's home town.

On the first two tours, the focus was on imaginative lighting, however this time around video was introduced to work in parallel with this.

Dan has made film shorts and music videos for fun in the past, so his passion for moving images and effects coupled with John Newman's own interest in his visuality onstage ... produced a dynamic basis for the tour.

UK - Ahead of his 2015 UK and Ireland tour, Neil Diamond recorded a one-off ITV special. The 75-minute Neil Diamond: One Night Only hosted by Rob Brydon features Diamond performing some of his greatest hits as well tracks from his new album Melody Road.

Creative Technology (CT) was contracted by ITV to provide the stage backdrop. Working with their designer Peter Bingemann and lighting designer Dave Davey, CT installed an 11.5m x 8.6m Spider 30 screen, achieving the desired softened look by using a rear projection surface in front of the display. This allowed a lower resolution and lower cost product to be used, increasing the impact without overpowering the star of the show.
