UK - When TEDAV was commissioned by Wiltshire Council to fit out Springfield Community Campus in Corsham, integrating all the comms and AV, project manager Gee Edwards decided to conceptually design a digital end-to-end system, incorporating protocols common to the Harman Pro (JBL, BSS, Soundcraft and AKG) components, distributed in the UK and Eire by Sound Technology.

The result is an intuitive plug and play system which networks the main and second room or allows each to function as stand-alone. For example, the gym/dance studio (Room 2) can double as a Green Room for the main 200 capacity presentation space by accessing the different presets in the BSS Soundweb DSP.

With a removable 28 sq.m stage, the large Multi-Performance Activity Space (Room 1) is designed to host performances, lectures and conferences and other leisure activities, with direct access to an exhibition br

USA - Popular husband-and-wife Country duo and reigning ACM Vocal Duo of the Year, Thompson Square, has spent this summer taking their Just Feels Good Tour across North America under a canopy of video screens and moving lights controlled by ArKaos MediaMaster Pro. The spectacular stage and lighting design was the brainchild of Jeff Lava of 44 Designs and lighting designer, Larry Foote.

44 Designs was introduced to MediaMaster Pro by A.C. Lighting, Inc. during a demo at 44 Design's Nashville office earlier this year. 44 Designs promptly selected MediaMaster Pro to control the intricate video system on their next project.

"For Thompson Square I wanted to create something that would introduce a modern architectural design into a conventional concert venue space and present the audience with something that would look good lit or unlit," says Jeff Lava, founder of 44 Desi

Europe - Panasonic is set to launch its first 4K professional large display, when a 98" LED LCD starts shipping this month (November), with an 84" model released in January. The new displays offer extended operation in harsh conditions as well as providing bright, crisp, ultra-high resolution images.

The LQ70 series, capable of 24/7 operation, features a protective glass panel on the front of the display, and an aluminium cabinet. With high-impact and vibration resistance, they allow for safe, reliable use in places like transportation hubs and shopping centres where they are at risk of being knocked.

Portrait orientation is also possible without an uneven effect on the screen. This, alongside its durability, makes it ideal in rental applications where it is frequently transported and installed.

Panasonic marketing manager, Enrique Robledo said, "The LQ70 seri

USA - Part of North Point Ministries, Inc, Buckhead Church in Atlanta, Georgia, is a 15-year-old establishment with a 3000-seat auditorium which hosts four services every Sunday.

The church is in the process of growing its technical equipment to enrich the quality of its in-services. Part of this expansion involves the increased use of media and lighting to add to the dynamic format of the services.

Video forms a main element of the set designs: video imagery is projected onto set pieces or run through plasma screens on stage and used as a backdrop to performances. This is enhanced by the generous use of LED lighting. The set is changed every four months to keep things fresh and new for the church attenders.

Images of the pastor, who alternates between Buckhead Church and North Point Community Church, two of the six NPMi campuses in the greater Atlanta area, are also project

UK - Lighting and visuals designer Dan Robinson has just finished his third tour with UK singer and musician John Newman, which ramped up production values with the help of XL Video who supplied an LED screen / mini-cam and control package plus crew.

Newman and his management team have always believed in investing in great looking live shows, which has enabled Dan to creatively evolve the look and feel of the performances since he started working with the artist last year at a show at Settle Village Hall - Newman's home town.

On the first two tours, the focus was on imaginative lighting, however this time around video was introduced to work in parallel with this.

Dan has made film shorts and music videos for fun in the past, so his passion for moving images and effects coupled with John Newman's own interest in his visuality onstage ... produced a dynamic basis for the tour.

UK - Ahead of his 2015 UK and Ireland tour, Neil Diamond recorded a one-off ITV special. The 75-minute Neil Diamond: One Night Only hosted by Rob Brydon features Diamond performing some of his greatest hits as well tracks from his new album Melody Road.

Creative Technology (CT) was contracted by ITV to provide the stage backdrop. Working with their designer Peter Bingemann and lighting designer Dave Davey, CT installed an 11.5m x 8.6m Spider 30 screen, achieving the desired softened look by using a rear projection surface in front of the display. This allowed a lower resolution and lower cost product to be used, increasing the impact without overpowering the star of the show.

UK - Glasgow City Council commissioned The Projection Studio - led by Ross Ashton and Karen Monid - to create a ground-breaking giant mapped video projection show, Glasgow's War, on the front of their City Chambers building to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.

"It was an incredible honour to be trusted with relating such a fundamentally significant piece of history and of telling the story of Glasgow's War with honesty and integrity" states Ashton, whose art has won multiple international Awards and holds two Gui

UK - XL Video, working with production manager, Sarah Chaloner and designer, Dominic Tolfts, supplied video projection and plasma screen solutions for studio recordings of Series 28 of the popular TalkBack television show, Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

The familiar Never Mind the Buzzcocks set includes a number of video elements that are key to the music-based quiz show, which is hosted by Rhod Gilbert. This series is recorded at Stage 9 of Elstree Television Studios and broadcast on BBC2.

The stage left and right of the set are populated with 12x Panasonic 42" LCD screens. These screens were specified for their built

USA - Eric Wade, of FOHShow LLC, is the first US lighting designer to put Ayrton's Radicalnew MagicPanel-R out on a major tour - that of American R&B/hip-hop artist Usher as he embarks on a 50-date tour across America and Europe to promote his eighth album, UR.

UK - UK-based event safety consultancy Stagesafe reports the Health and Safety Executive's announcement that CDM Regulations will be enforced on the events and entertainment industry from April 2015.

The news was confirmed at last week's meeting of the Joint Advisory Committee on Entertainment (JACE) at the HSE in Westminster. The following report was produced by Michael Anderson and Lee Holloway, members of SAGE (Safety Advisors Group in Entertainment):

"This was an unexpected turn of events as it had appeared earlier this year that a "BEA" (Business Engagement Assessment) industry impact assessment process engaging with the event industry trade associations may have led to a decision not to enforce. But HSE stated that they had since received legal advice that not enforcing would breach European law and expose the government to international prosecution.

South Africa - The two leading organisations representing the audio visual industry in Southern Africa, SACIA (Southern African Communications Industry Association) and the TPSA (Technical Production Services Association) have merged so that they can present a stronger front to clients and associates, and a louder voice to government.

While SACIA members are responsible for fixed audio visual displays such as those one sees in board rooms, shopping centre, sports arenas and houses of worship, the TPSA membership have been responsible for the spectacular effects one sees at music concerts and other similar events. Jvan is not afraid of taking a creative risk or two, and the design involves a provocative synergy of lighting and video delivered with Jvan's trademark thought and intelligence. The set embraces a whole range of styles characterized by The Kooks own distinctive style, and for every number, Jvan's imagineering brings an individual look, theme or ambience.

It's also Jvan's first full tour with Colour Sound as a supplier, on which he comments, "I like working with this company. It's a very well-organized operation with excellent kit, everyone is friendly and highly knowledgeable - and generally th

In2Structures, a member of the Gearhouse Group of Companies, created the portable structures - there is a SupaDome, 71m x 35m x 17m high, at Silverstar and a Maxi Dome, 49m x 28m x 13m high, at The Ridge.
