Denmark - DPA Microphones has restructured its management team in order to maximize resources and consolidate international sales activity around future new product launches.

The company's CEO Christian Poulsen says the development of new products scheduled for release in 2014 gave DPA the impetus to examine its internal structure and make changes that play to individual managers' personal strengths.

"These changes enable us to better support customers and dealers by providing a bridge between product development and sales," Poulsen says. "They also allow us to create a DPA community, through which we can connect directly with DPA end users and industry opinion formers. One of the key changes is the appointment of product specialist Mikkel Nymand to the newly created p

UK - Each year, before the start of the official NBA season, a selection of friendly pre-season games are played. This year, ahead of the season opener on 29th October, eight international games have been held in Europe, Asia and South America.

XL Video, working for event producer, STS Touring Productions, supplied LED screens for the Oklahoma City Thunder v Philadelphia 76ers game at the Phones4U Arena in Manchester on 8 October.

The four flown screens were situated in the centre of the arena, allowing the audience on all levels to have a great view of the fast-paced on-court action. The screens not only showed live action from the courtside cameras, but displayed score graphics, player profiles and other game information.

XL Video selected Pixled F-6 LED for the screen as its high resolution offered the audience excellent picture quality. The product is also lightweight an

Australia - After three years, approximately two-million hours of labour and over 200m dollars, the newly refurbished Brisbane City Hall has reopened. The main auditorium has been revolutionised to meet the demands of the 21st century, yet remains stunningly true to the original building design.

The copper dome over the room is the largest in Australia, spanning 31m in diameter. The dome is supported on a brick base that allows the interior of the main auditorium to be unobscured by columns.

Located within this dome is a computer to monitor the loads on all of the chain hoists suspended from the roof structure. Unfortunately the people on the stage who were operating the chain hoists couldn't see the computer's screen and hence couldn't see what load was being applied to the structure. The structural engineers on the job had specified particular load ratings on the roof trusse

USA - The Audio Engineering Society Convention (Thursday, 17 October, through Sunday, 20 October 2013, at the Javits Center in New York City) was the most successful for some years, say the organisers. The exhibit floor, panels and technical sessions were packed all four days, and as AES celebrated its 65th Anniversary, a five-year-high number of 18,453 registrants was tallied.

At show close, AES reported a 16% increase in registration since the last time the convention was in New York two years ago (131st AES) and a s71% increase over last year's San Francisco event (133rd AES), which unfortunately was plagued by smaller attendance due to Hurricane Sandy.

"I can't express how thrilled I am with our convention this year," stated Bob Moses, executive director of the AES. "Our organizing committee really outdid themselves, with over 250 presentations from an astou

John Marcolini has the experience and skill set to drive our growth as this pivotal industry transition continues to accelerate."

South Africa - Johannesburg-based Digital Fabric has specified Philips Selecon luminaires to help bring the newly completed //hapo museum to atmospheric and theatrical life.

//hapo's vision was clear: to create an interactive exhibition space where the story of Southern Africa, dating back 3.6 billion years, unfolds in an engaging narrative and visual form. Switzerland - The Stravinsky Auditorium is part of the Montreux Convention Centre which sits on the shoreline of Lake Geneva in Switzerland. It hosts, amongst a wide range of events, the Montreux Jazz Festival. The key to the appeal of the auditorium is its modularity, enabling it to be adapted for the widest possible range of uses. With a partially modular floor the venue can be configured in classroom, concert and theatre configurations.

The Stravinsky strives to improve and develop its features at every turn and to this end commissioned GDS, through its distributor Swiss Light Consulting, to supply a new lighting system able to specifically adapt to the modularity of the stage area.

During orchestral performances, for example, the depth of the stage and the position of acoustic baffles within the hall changes significantly. The system had to be flexible enough to accommodat

Italy - Clay Paky has recently published photometric data relating to its lights on its website www.claypaky.it in IESNA and Eulumdat format (.IES and .LDT files), as laid down in standard EN 13.032 - LM 79 - .

The main advantage of these formats is they can be "imported" into design programmes so that the levels of light in the various areas that need illuminating may be rendered. The designer can therefore calculate the number of lights needed to achieve a certain lighting level, the distance between the lights and the area to be illuminated, and the spacing between the lights themselves.

In the past, this type of data was only requested by architectural firms, but today some lighting control desks (for example the GrandMA) and simulation programmes can import IES files. Lighting designers, directors of photography and installers can therefore now calculate in adva

Through new research and state of the art technology, The Cheapside Hoard: London's Lost Jewels, which runs from now until 27 April 2014, showcases the wealth of insights the Hoard offers on Elizabethan and Jacobean London as a centre of craftsmanship and conspicuous consumption, at the crossroads of the Old and New Worlds.

Shaun Green, deputy head of facilities at the Museum of London, explains, "Having worked with the team at Unusual Rigging before, they were our first port of call when we realised we needed to create a full Unistrut grid in order to provide a rigid framework for the lighting, the hanging of some of the exhibits

UK - Established in 1991 as an innovative state funded City Technology College, Brooke Weston Academy in Corby has a high reputation for academic achievement.

Built on land donated by local land-owner Hugh de Capell Brooke, and supported by Garry Weston, owner of Associated British Foods, in 2008 the school became an Academy. Although 22 years is relatively short in the life of a building, it is light years in the evolution of sound technology.

School principal, Trish Stringer, recently ordered that the sound system in their flagship 540-seat purpose-built Weston Theatre be upgraded to improve coverage.

AV & theatre technician Peter Jackson, who has been at the school since 1993, certainly had no objection, and became part of the tender process which resulted in Leicester-based Upstage Theatre Supplies being awarded the contract.

UK - Birmingham-based Pre Production Services, which specialises in lighting console hire, is headed by Colin Wood who has been a professional lighting designer since 2005 and has worked internationally on a plethora of different theatre based shows including musicals, dramas and cruise ship based productions.

He first started using Robe in his work in 2010 on the P&O cruise ship Ventura, which had ColorSpot 700E ATs and DigitalSpot 7000s in the main theatre lighting rig. He was on-board for three weeks and in that time worked all of the lights extremely hard. He was impressed with the reliability which was spot-on.

Robe fixtures now figure regularly in Colin's designs. More recently, he has lit two shows at the Grand Theatre in Blackpool - Step Back In Time and Ooh La La, starring Canon and Ball.

The shows were a high energy fusion of dancing and international
