USA - Production designer Steve Cohen's association with Billy Joel dates back an astonishing 40 years. Based on this vast experience he has conjured up some further magic for the artist's latest tour, which takes in an open-ended monthly residency at Madison Square Garden. By becoming established as the fourth franchise at MSG the artist has reaffirmed his close association with New York City, and has been delivering some stupendous performances.

Along the production journey, as technology evolved into LED, so Cohen encountered the world of the GLP impression series - using both the original impression 90 and 120 RZ zoom as well as the Volkslichts. But it was the later introduction of the X4 that confirmed his love affair with the impression LED platform.

UK - Carnaby Street - The Concert took the sounds of the 60s up and down the UK, from the south coast of England, into Wales and up to the north of Scotland. Capital Sound was there every step of the way, providing an audio system fit for the best of the rock n' roll era.

With the tour playing small theatres, Capital's challenge was to supply a system, complete with independent front of house and monitor desks, that would fit into a self-drive panel van, but still provide the punch and coverage the show deserved.

"We opted for the very small, compact Meyer Mina/USW sub system with a pair of Yamaha LS9 32 consoles and rack of Shure PSM900 IEM systems to provide dedicated monitoring for the seven-piece band on stage," says Capital's general manager, Paul Timmins. "With our compact packaging, we managed to get the complete system to weigh in at 1300kg and be

The multi-Grammy winning, platinum recording artists performed before over one thousand invited guests at the Rhode Island Convention Centre, illuminated by a zesty lightshow created by Derek Iorfida, using a variety of Legend moving head fixtures from Chauvet Professional.

UK - The Royal Opera House in London has recently invested in SpectraCyc 200 units from Altman Lighting for their Linbury Studio Theatre. The new cyclorama wash fixtures, which have replaced existing tungsten fixtures, use an LED source with RGBA colour-mixing to achieve a nearly limitless colour palette. Designed for both theatrical and architectural applications, the Spectra Cyc blends colours via a patent pending LED lens and can be adapted for either floor mounted or sky-cyc uses.

Before deciding on the Altman fixtures, Paul Hornsby, lighting systems manager at Royal Opera House, researched several technologies and product options. With the Linbury hosting a wide variety of performances during the regular season as well as private events and functions, it was essential that the new lighting fixtures provide a wide array of colours without compromising on brightness.

USA - George Strait holds the record for the most number one country music hits - 44 top charters since 1981 - of all time. So it only makes sense that the final show of this music icon's national touring career would also set a record for attendance. Nearly 105,000 fans attended Strait's 7 June concert at AT&T Stadium, eclipsing the Rolling Stones' previous attendance record of 87,500 for the venue in 1981, coincidentally the same year the singing cowboy launched his professional career.

Dallas-based Onstage Systems, which has been rigging sound reinforcement for Strait's tours since the beginning of his performing days, pulled out all the stops for the final date on the tour, dubbed The Cowboy Rides Away, powering up a massive L-Acoustics K1/K2 loudspeaker system to fill the stadium, home to the Dallas Cowboys.

"K1 is the premier stadium line array system and we'

The inventory was supplied by PRG after first providing a demo of the fixtures.

The London-based band, fronted by Dan Smith, has been playing a range of successful shows, including the massive C

Belgium - One of the Belgium's best-known football teams is celebrating an audio refurbishment at its home stadium, the Stade Constant Vanden Stock, known better as the Stade d'Anderlecht.

Home to Anderlecht FC, the 24,000-capacity Brussels stadium, used solely for football, needed to upgrade its 25-year-old PA/VA system. Following evaluation of three possible solutions, long time Anderlecht solution supplier Prosonix, together with Nexo's Belgian distributor's Pascal Deneef, proposed a Nexo compact, two-way Geo S12-ST system. The Geo S12-ST, a specialist stadium version of the popular Geo S12, fitted the stadium's requirement for long-throw line array cabinets perfectly. Another major reason for choosing the Nexo option was the success of the Geo S12-ST system installed in France's Stade de Valenciennes, a similar venue in size and design.

Nexo's Paul Massiani, together with

Taking in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, London, Brussels, Cologne, Berlin, Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona, Nice, Venice, Florence and Malta before the Rome show, the tour travelled over 8000 miles and required fast set ups, sound checks and turnarounds.

Touring Europe with an articulated truck stage and a long wheelbase van and just four personnel is a tough assignment, so a compact but versatile and fast to set up mixing console was essential. This is why Darren from ProTechTour and Hard Rock
