Denmark - The roster of Supernova front-projection displays from Danish optical screen pioneers, dnp denmark, is about to undergo a further paradigm shift by embracing 3D technology.

This follows the successful trial at this summer's InfoComm expo in Las Vegas, where visitors donned active stereo shutter glasses to experience one of the unforgettable moments of the show. They were able to view specially-created 3D content on a huge Supernova Infinity screen, equipped with a 0.8 low gain material to provide unique contrast and horizontal half gain viewing angles.

Fed from a Mechdyne Dimensions Media and 3D Server, projected from a Digital Projection TITAN Reference 1080p 3D projector, dnp met their combined goals of providing a high-contrast image with super wide viewing angles in a harsh overhead lighting setting.

They had to pay a £50 deposit now and the rest when the booking site re-opens on 1 April 2011. Passes for next year's festival, which starts on 22 June, cost £195 - up £10 on last year's price.

UK - Blades are once more swishing across the ice as one of London's well-known leisure hotspots, the Sobell Centre in Islington, reopens its skating rink after a £550,000 refurbishment.

Islington Council and Aquaterra, which runs the borough's leisure centres, were forced to shut down the rink to update the coolant gas supply in accordance with the latest environmental regulations. As well as upgrading the pipes, they decided to improve the rink - adding new netting to prevent ice-hockey pucks from flying into the spectators' area.

The refurbishment provided an opportunity to install a high-spec sound system, which was designed by VME, the Manchester-based audio services company. VME chose the distinctively-moulded Do Series loudspeakers from Vieta as the main elements of the installation.

"As you can guess, there is a lot of reverb in this environment," say

Macau - Franco Dragone's newest spectacular has been five years in the planning, two years of rehearsal and cost approximately £160m. Surrounded in mystery and much anticipation, The House of Dancing Water launched on 16 September in Macau's City of Dreams.

Contracted by Theatre Projects, Stage Technologies provided a 141-axis whole house control and engineering system for the purpose-built venue. The system includes a 40-unit track and trolley system, which can transport up to 250kg at 3.5m/sec, allowing

The new units will replace all PRG's existing motor control stock in the UK, standardising the control platform across its substantial rigging department which has over 2000 motors.

Kinesys were one of three companies that pitched for the design commission of this project which was managed by Dave Weatherhead for Kinesys, and for PRG by PRG's UK head of asset management Paul Weaver and Summit Steel's Jon Bray - who have co-ordinated an overall upgrade for all equipment in PRG's rigging department.

Together, they came up with a list of requirements and a basic spec from which the DigiHoist was developed as the most suitable product for concert touring and systems for shows and events of all sizes.

Following the product's official launch at the recent 2010 PLASA exhibitio

UK / USA - With plans for the merger between ESTA and PLASA now in their final stages, the elections for places on the new North American and European Regional Boards, and the over-arching Governing Body, got underway on 1 October.

The elections are a unique milestone in the merger of the two Associations, as this is the first time that ESTA and PLASA Members will vote simultaneously to elect representatives to the new Board structure. The month-long ballot, in which over 1,000 companies and individuals will have the opportunity to vote, pre-empts the New Year merger date when the Associations formally unite under the PLASA name.

For PLASA, one of the major developments to come out of the merger is the move to a more representative Governance system. The new 12-member Regional Boards will better mirror the diversity of regions, market sectors, business types and technologies a

UK - WiSE (Women in Stage Entertainment), the industry organization set up to address the under representation of women in the backstage, technical and design disciplines of entertainment, smashed even its own expectations during PLASA 2010.

Co-founder Sarah Rushton-Read says: "During the show we shot past the 200 barrier in terms of membership and now have over 270 members and counting! It was great to meet and greet so many of our members on our own stand and we thank our sponsor Bryan Raven of White Light, Esther Heaslip and the White Light team for making this happen. The WiSE stand was heaving every day during Tea O Clock (4pm - 6pm), where WiSE members served tea and cakes to industry colleagues and other WiSE members. UK - Stage Electrics has once again provided full technical production for the Guardian Hay Festival, held in Hay-on-Wye in the Brecon Beacons each summer. The world's leading literary festival, famously labelled by Bill Clinton as The Woodstock of the mind, has also exported its concept to create sister events in India, Columbia, Mexico, Spain, Maldives and Kenya.

In 23 years the event has grown from a number of venues in the picturesque town to a much larger greenfield site just outside. The site infrastructure is designed to ensure that visitors and guest celebrities alike enjoy the experience without traditional festival discomforts. Generous trackway and tentage ensure that encounters with mud, even in a wet year, are minimised; conversely, on sunny days there is plenty of space for visitors to relax on the lawns.

UK - Lanta Lighting was an integral part of TV's The Gadget Show attempt at the world's largest game of Tetris. Viewers of Five's popular tech show saw one of Lanta's best selling LED lights enter the record books when 200 Fireball PAR Cans were used recently at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre.

Lanta's managing director, Grant Lester explains why the Fireball PAR64 TRI was chosen by The Gadget Show: "Everyone knows that LED fixtures use a fraction of the power of incandescent bulbs, so choosing this technology was an obvious choice." He continues "Lanta was the perfect partner for the TV show since they needed a large number of reliable units at short notice. Tri-colour, DMX-controlled, Fireballs fitted the bill to a tee."

Nearly a kilometre of data and power cables networked the Lanta Fireballs into a single, computer-controlled grid.

UK - Calrec has announced the promotion of Anthony Harrison to regional sales executive. In this new role, he will have particular responsibility for Calrec's markets in the Middle East, although he is additionally developing sales in the growing markets of Eastern Europe and Russia.

Harrison previously spent three years as Calrec's exhibitions coordinator. "It's been a natural progression, really," he says. "While working at exhibitions, I was talking to current and future customers, and doing hands-on demos for them. I've gradually become familiar with the sales side of things, so it was the obvious next step. Calrec needed somebody dedicated to the Middle East and helping out in Eastern Europe; we are strengthening our focus in both regions as part of our current strategy of continuing improvements in these key markets."

Harrison is on tour in Eastern Eu

"I see a great future at XLNT with a talented and energetic team developing a number of tremend

UK - Stephen Gilbert runs a successful audio & AV business in the south-west of England, but is looking for a change: would anyone else, he wonders, like to change their lives and take on his business?

"I have been running my own sound engineering business since 1985. The company's main activity is the installation and servicing of commercial and professional sound systems and audio-visual equipment although there is also a largely under-developed hire business as well. Over the years I have built up a solid client-base including churches, holiday parks, theme parks, sports and leisure facilities, pubs, clubs, hotels, government buildings and many more. I also carry out sub-contract work for various national companies as their 'local' engineer.

"Originally based in Falmouth, I relocated to Launceston in 2004 on the Devon/Cornwall border to be more central to my clien

The sweat wipe is great and the dexterity of the gloves is brilliant, not like the usual heavy weight style that tends make things more difficult, with the Dirty Rigger gloves you really can use them for almost anything," comments Kim Reed, Movievision director.

The specialist rigging glove range launched only in early 2010 is now available in over 20 countries worldwide with Movievision being a great addition to the distribution network. "To have Kim and the team at Movievision to work with is a great step forward for the Dirty Rigger range, having worked with the
