Kuwait - Layali Febrayer is Kuwait's leading music and poetry festival and is considered a major cultural event in the Gulf, bringing some of the most creative and exciting artists, singers, writers and intellectuals to Kuwait from all over the Arab world.

The 2010 event was televised by Alwatan Television Network in Kuwait beginning 4 February and running Thursday and Friday nights for three weeks and streamed live on the Internet.

ACT Lighting Design of Brussels, Belgium was responsible for set design, lighting design, and content design. Koert Vermeulen was principal lighting designer, working alongside lighting designer Thomas Boets. Marcos Vinals was set designer and content art director, and Joris Corthout was content designer.

Belgium - When Belgian construction group Besix celebrated its 100th Anniversary, Robert Juliat followspots were present to help highlight the occasion.

The Besix Group is the largest in Belgium, and operates in construction, roads, infrastructure, environmental, concessions and property development sectors. Most recently it has been a subcontractor on the five-year construction of Burj Khalifa in Dubai, currently the tallest building in the world, and Yas Island, where the first F1 Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi took place in October 2009.

USA - North American entertainment lighting specialists, Complete Production Systems, (CPS) has supplied Chroma-Q Color Punch LED fixtures to a leading casino resort for their exclusive show nightclub. Part of the casino's extensive entertainment facilities, the venue features a stylish design reminiscent of the hippest clubs in L.A. and New York. It is also equipped with state of the art lighting and sound systems to cater for the diverse range of musical acts, comedians, amateur nights, karaoke and fashion shows hosted by the venue.

CPS was approached by the casino to provide a new concert stage lighting system for the circular club. With its pie-shaped stage area being located directly behind the service bar and just 12ft below a curved soffit, the venue presented a number of technical challenges for CPS. The eighth annual PALME Middle East 2010 was officially opened at the Dubai World Trade Centre by Engineer Hussain Nasser Lootah, director general of Dubai Municipality. "PALME has always been an important show at which to do business and this year is no exception. Angola - Robe moving lights took centre stage in the 11th November Stadium, Luanda, Angola, for both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations football tournament.

Lighting for the events was designed by Carlos Silva and Pedro Leston, from the live show and event design practice, A Fundição, based in Lisbon, Portugal, and it was they who specified the 160 Robes, which were supplied along with other lighting equipment by Angolan based rental company, Puromix.

A Fundição is well known for its innovative and imaginative approach to design and communication at live events, utilising a variety of visual mediums including lighting, and they have also worked before on several occasions with Puromix. The themes for both shows focussed on the significant cultural and political events in Angola's recent history, and its vision for the future.

USA - The US Department of Energy (DOE) has announced that Seattle City Light has been selected to lead a national effort to guide municipalities in evaluating light emitting diode (LED) street lights. Edward Smalley of Seattle City Light will lead the Municipal Solid-State Street Lighting Consortium, which will collect, analyse, and share information and lessons learned related to LED street lighting demonstrations.

Totally new is a range of white LED engines - initially to be shown at the exhibition in i-Pix's BB1 fixture. Also new is the BB2, a self contained two-cell fixture and the BB 2x2 which is made up of a pair of BB2s.

Showcasing LiteWare HO (High Output), the newest edition to the LiteWare range, GDS received an exceptional response. USA - Lighting designer Kyle Olson from Milwaukee-based Logan Productions used Robe DigitalSpot 7000DTs for the first time at the Milwaukee Urban League's annual Black & White Ball, staged at the Bradley Centre in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Rigged above the event's main 40ft x 60ft Transformit Star Stage that was flown over the audience, the two DigitalSpots were utilised as an integral element of the lighting and visuals projecting onto a large screen surface above the audience. The evening also included a live performance by Philadelphia soul legends, The Stylistics.

The DigitalSpots allowed Olson to create a cost effective large projection surface above the guests, with the added bonus of utilising the DigitalSpot's LED module to add colour and depth to the other lighting and creating a "nice even wash".

Philippines - The First Philippine National Police (PNP) IT Exhibition has come to a close, and the LED screen provided by Lighthouse Technologies played a key role. The exhibition, held at the PNP Multipurpose Centre, demonstrates Lighthouse's commitment to support the Philippines' e-governance efforts as well as its continued rise in the Asia Pacific region.

The R16i/o 16mm 4.092m (W) x 2.304m (H) LED screen was installed at the main entrance of the PNP Multipurpose Centre. UK - AC-ET has appointed industry veteran, Keith Hartley, as Northern service technician for the company's new Technical Services department in its Leeds office. This 'People's light' uses 60 Rebel LED's (21 green, 21 blue and 18 red) to create a full colour palette from strong saturates to subtle pastel colours for shorter throw applications.
