The common theme was Made in Italy and once again the event included fashion shows and musical performances, with Roberto Vecchioni and Dolcenera.

The lighting system provided by Franchino Service included the Panorama Cyc Power 2x575W with TLT patented double lamps placed on the ground for the lighting of all the layer towers; the small but high performance iSpot 150, with silver colour personalized by the covers, positioned on the ground along both sides of the 14m catwalk; the Infinity Wash XL 1400W and the Testa 2500W followspot for the lighting of the stage mounted on the front and side layer towers; the iSpot 150, iWash 575 and Par Lite LED for the

UK - Live communications and production agency DesignScene production designed and managed the first full scale large live event to be staged at the new flagship St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, a charity fundraiser organised by the Anderson Foundation in aid of The National Autistic Society.

It is the second year that DesignScene has produced the event for the Anderson Foundation. The project was managed for them by Ben Turner, and designed by DesignScene's creative director, Attila Keskin. Turner comments, "It was very exciting to be working in London's newest high profile hotel. As nothing this large had been done before we had a real chance to set a standards."

UK Rental company HSL continued its working relationship with Production North, supplying the lighting design and equipment to the recent Olly Murs UK tour.

The chart topping singer/songwriter and runner up of X-Factor 2009 has evolved a live performance style of his own, cutting a new and fresh model from that of other successful reality TV contestants who follow up with solo careers. Show producer Beth Honan's stage set was designed with a ska/2 Tone flourish, and Murs' performance included some Madness inspired quirks and a generally up-beat, jaunty tone, backed by a nine- piece band including full brass section.

The lighting design was created by Phil Wiffin for HSL. Dave Lee operated and looked after everything on the road, working alongside tech Johnny Harper. HSL's project manager Mike Oates comments, "Once again Production North compiled a great team to pro

Europe - An addition to the Philips Entertainment LED lighting arsenal is the Philips Strand Lighting LightPack LED controller.

UK - Grey skies and a spattering of rain failed to dampen the enthusiasm of more than 300 industry clients and friends attending White Light's Open Day last Thursday - an event that allowed guests to explore White Light's new additional warehouse space, get hands-on with some of the latest lighting products, enjoy some great food, fine company, and be entertained by music from White Light's in-house band.

The Netherlands - eldoLED's LINEARdrive 720D - designed for full-colour LED applications in entertainment, stage, façade and architectural lighting - has been upgraded to support 5V, 12V, 24V and 48V LED strips.

The LED strips can even operate concurrently, giving designers increased freedom and future proofing for the installation, says the company. The LINEARdrive, which dims down to as low as 0.1%, can be used with all leading protocols (DALI, DMX, DMX/RDM, 0-10V). A wealth of configurations settings is set over the intuitive user interface.

Thanks to the driver's Remote Device Management support, you can easily track down and address your luminaires from an RDM capable DMX controller. There is no need to open luminaires to re-address the driver during installation or re-commissioning.

When using the LINEARdrive in a DMX network, you can easily configure it to get the li

USA - Turning the clock back two decades, boy bands New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys have joined forces in a major American sell-out arena tour this summer under the soubriquet NKOTBSB.

In order to allow the bands to engage at close quarters with their hordes of screaming fans, production designer Butch Allen designed a 91ft catwalk leading from the main stage to a 'B' stage - using no fewer than 79 GLP Volkslicht Zoom LED spots to edge the perimeter of the vast 155ft-wide main and subsidiary stages - including 17 footlights down each side of the thrust. The complex staging and movement was fabricated by Tait Towers.

"Since the whole set design was based around the 91ft thrust, my idea was to use the Volkslichts as footlights, to carve the space out around the audience," said Allen, explaining the concept.

The tour has seen him reunited with Jesse Blevins

Italy - ETC dealers from across central and southern Europe got to view the company's new Rome office - and experience legendary Italian hosting - earlier this month, as part of ETC's annual Dealer Focus event.

In a series of talks and seminars over the course of three days, delegates learned about new ETC products, projects and systems.

Part of the event centred on ETC's latest LED fixtures, Selador Desire, which comes in a range of different options, each optimised for every type of lighting need.

Selador's x7 Colour System adds four colours to the traditional RGB mix, radically expanding the colour range and power. The range was specifically designed to mix well with traditional tungsten lighting, giving lighting designers the best of both worlds. Desire's optional red shift mode mimics the way the colour temperature of a tungsten lamp warms as it fades.

Installed throughout the venue are 16 COLORado Tri Tour, 60 COLORband Tri and 10 COLORado Batten 72 Tour, as well as 36 LED PAR 38 wash lights. Sanders specifically sought LED-fitted fixtures due to their longer life and color changing capabilities.

"There are 150 fixtures installed throughout," Sanders said. "I didn't want to change 150 light bulbs. Colour-changing LEDs were selected because the interior is white and pastel and we could add colours and turn [the

USA - The Hylton Performing Arts Centre on the Prince William Campus of George Mason University in Manassas, Virginia has taken delivery of two Robert Juliat Aramis followspots with motorised dousers from dealer Barbizon Capitol in Alexandria.

The 85,000sq.ft centre, which opened last year, serves the Northern Virginia community. Theatre consultant and lighting designer Robert Davis specified Aramis followspots for the 1,121-seat Merchant Hall, which is designed for symphony orchestra performances, dance, opera and theatre and boasts a 45ft by 100ft stage and a motorised pit set for large orchestras.

"A followspot has to do everything perfectly - It doesn't have to clear just one hurdle, but dozens," says Davis. "The instrument has to have a really good followspot beam, and you need to have good control over it. It has to accelerate and decelerate smoothly and s

USA - DDP has developed a line voltage linear lighting fixture optimized for continuous surface grazing and wall-washing applications. UK - Artistic Licence Engineering has announced the release of Art-Net 3. Fully backward-compatible with previous versions, this free-of-charge Ethernet protocol is now capable of handling a staggering 32,768 universes (or 32 'Kiloverses')of DMX lighting control.

Art-Net3 retains all the popular features of its predecessors (Art-Net I andArt-Net II), being simple to implement, highly efficient and available in the public domain, says the company. Crucially, all existing Art-Net I and II devices will operate seamlessly with Art-Net 3.

The key difference of Art-Net 3 is its data capacity - at least two orders of magnitude greater than the 256 universe limit of Art-Net II.

WhenArt-Net I was released about a decade ago, lighting control demands rarely exceeded a handful of Universes. By the time Art-Net II arrived in 2006, thebenchmark had increased to a few dozen. Today, fuelle
