Karl Christmas has been appointed as UK sales manager for studio/post and broadcast at SCV London, taking responsibility for high end pro sales. Formerly a freelance music producer and for many years in sales and marketing with TC Electronics, Yamaha and others, Karl has built a strong background in pro audio and his experience both as a user and in sales has given him an in depth knowledge of pro audio products. Among the many big names he will be handling at SCV London is the new Fostex DV40 mastering recorder, high end Genelec monitors and the Lucid and Universal Audio ranges.

IAG (UK) Ltd has appointed Dean Davoile to its Huntingdon-based headquarters. He will be taking on the role of national sales manager (UK) for all brands under the IAG Professional banner, the main line being Wharfedale Professional loudspeakers and electronics. Previously heading up the sales at Logic System Pro Audio, Davoile’s immediate responsibilities at IAG will be overseeing the launch of three new professional product lines. He will also be in charge of developing sales for the recently-created Systems Division.

Following our news item last week concerning the death of Paul Twist, we now have details of the funeral arrangements. The funeral will be held at midday on Friday February 22nd and Paul will be buried after a funeral mass at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Henfield, Sussex.

Following the sudden death last month of its founder and managing director Bob Salt, RW Salt Communications has announced the appointment of its new general manager, Craig Buckley. In a statement from the company, RW Salt’s chairman, Richard A Lyon, said: "It is to Bob’s credit that even though he was taken away so unexpectedly, he left everything in good order, which has enabled our company to function very well indeed."

Lyon also welcomed Buckley to the company. Buckley, who is well known to many in the audio industry, joins RW Salt from Bose, where he had worked for 10 years, recently as national sales manager.

Britannia Row Productions (BRP) has added Jim Alexander to its ranks. Alexander is that classic of the industry, a former ENTS man from his time at college, who now specializes in the corporate event market.

"Although my first steps in audio were with live bands, it’s always been my ambition to service the corporate sector and do it properly," said Alexander. "I left college and immediately worked with a local PA company in Crawley who had an F2 system. A little hairy for a first system, I soon learned the fundamentals of sound control." Mike Fisher joined SPS in 1999 as Prince's right-hand man and over the last two years the duo have established SPS as a major player in the conference lighting market. He told us: "Everyone at SPS was unhappy to see Stephen Prince leave, but his ideas, drive and vision have given us a great platform. Richard Pilbrow, chairman of Theatre Projects Consultants, has announced that Elissa O. Getto has been appointed general manager of Theatre Projects Consultants Inc. She succeeds Victor Gotesman as the chief executive in the TPC South Norwalk, Connecticut office. Gotesman will be joining Jaffe Holden Acoustics.

Getto, who has been a senior consultant with Theatre Projects Consultants, will continue as part of the TPC team performing arts feasibility studies, master planning and advising on a wide range of arts administration issues. She is currently active on studies for Dallas, Virginia Beach and Kansas City.

ETC has expanded its presence in Europe with the appointment of Ingo Bernert as field project manager for the Northern Region. The position will be operative from 1 March 2002. With over 17 years’ experience in the lighting industry, Bernert has spent the past five working for ETC dealer Despar GmbH, where he was sales director for the project department and where, last autumn, he played an active role in the negotiations to appoint Despar an authorised dealer for ETC's dimming and control equipment in Germany. Before joining Despar, Bernert worked as a lighting designer and technical director, gaining extensive experience freelancing for various German theatres, rental houses and television companies.

City Theatrical has announced that technical salesperson Brian Byrne has left to join Kingsborough Community College, in Brooklyn, New York, as a media technician. Byrne joined the company in 2000 and played a large part in enabling CTI to win the ESTA Dealers’ Choice Award for Customer Service for 2001. Show Presentation Services has appointed Tim Brewster as its new head of scenic construction, following a review of operations taken in January this year. Brewster joins SPS after working with Set and Stage for three years as a project manager, following 11 years as construction director for Lewis Productions. During his career, Brewster has worked on staging and sets for a huge variety of shows from the Conservative Party Conference and trade union events to exhibitions in Azerbaijan.

He first became interested in set design and construction after building Doctor Who sets, amongst others, for the BBC following a five year apprenticeship as a pattern maker for British Aerospace. "This is a challenging role," said Brewster. "My focus is to integrate our scenic business fully into the rest of the company and to raise the department profile both internally and externally.

A new face on the international trade show circuit is Le Mark's Rebecca Lace. She has joined the company as project manager with the task of expanding sales and the product profile of Le Mark’s reusable PAL Roadcase Label and accessory range within the US. AC Lighting has announced three new appointments at its corporate headquarters located in High Wycombe. The Special Projects Division has been strengthened by the appointment of Ray Dolby in the role of project manager. Dolby has worked in the lighting industry since leaving school, firstly as resident theatre technician at a Birmingham Arts Centre, then as lighting designer at the Leicester Haymarket and subsequently at the Derby Playhouse, where he lit 34 shows, covering everything from plays to musicals and pantomimes. Ray then joined Stage Services in Loughborough as general manager before progressing his career with Lighting Technology Projects in London. The executive committee of the Association of Lighting Designers (ALD), the professional body representing lighting designers in all fields and countries, has appointed two of the Association's members, Robert Ornbo and Richard Pilbrow, as joint presidents.

The role of president involves advising the executive committee on how to achieve the ALD's principal goals, which are to further the art of lighting design for the theatre, live entertainment and associated industries, and to raise the profile of lighting designers. The committee wanted working lighting designers who were widely respected and who had contributed to the industry's development in the relatively short history of lighting design.
