USA - Horizon Control Inc, in conjunction with Entertainment Technology, has announced the release of the much-anticipated ‘furniture’ for the popular Horizon Lighting Control System - the Marquee console. Horizon, the professional Windows-based lighting control system, was released in 1996, and to date has had very limited hardware to accompany it. Most of the work was carried out via the user's PC using a keyboard and a mouse. Horizon found that this user interface, while popular with many users (architectural installations and churches especially), was not well-liked by ‘traditional’ theatre people.

USA - New Wave truss caught the eye of the judges again in Las Vegas, picking up a Buyers Choice Award for innovation at the Exhibitor 2003 trade show. The small truss with a growing reputation adds this prize to the Debuting Product of the Year award it won at LDI 2002 and the Product of the Year - Rigging and Hardware LDI 2001 award won by the OMNI connector, a variant of which is used in new wave.

The Judges at the Exhibitor Show were impressed with many features of the truss, giving special mention to its pleasing good looks, versatility and branding capabilities. Many positive comments were also made about the weight of the truss (approximately 1lb per linear foot) and the reduced cost of drayage from loading dock to show floor.

In addition to the strong, lightweight and infinitely customizable carbon fiber truss, the acrylic p-wave version is now ready to ship.

Denmark - The new D-PAC MP-152 utilizes the latest developments in transducer and cabinet design to provide a compact and easy-to-handle multi-purpose box. The low profile (37cm) of the cabinet makes it ideal for use as a wedge, and it can be configured for either passive operation or bi-amped through a DSP, where D-PAC audio recommends the Ashly 4.24C (4-in/8-out) for outstanding price/performance ratio. The exceptional low weight (20kg) is accomplished through the use of neodymium drivers, and the carefully selected crossover point ensures a point source reproduction with the advantage of a true horn-loaded compression driver, giving controlled and non-beaming dispersion, eliminating hotspots that are a typical cause of feedback. The high SPL is reached by use of a special 15" driver with interleaved voice coil for improved heat dissipation and double demodulation rings for

UK - Enttec has released a new firmware version of its DMXStreamer V1.2 - which incorporates a solar clock to allow the calculation of sunrise and sunset times anywhere in the world all year round. UK - DHA Lighting has announced that it is now offering same day service as standard for the creation of monochrome glass gobos in all of its standard sizes. Until now, monochrome gobos have taken three working days as standard. This new level of service means that DHA Lighting now offer the fastest monochrome glass gobo service in the UK.

Monochrome glass gobos allow far more complex designs to be created than with traditional metal gobos - in particular, images can be created without the ‘tagging’ required to hold metal gobos together, or the gobos can contain high-quality photographic half-tone images. DHA’s monochrome glass gobos are produced to a resolution of 3600dpi as standard on heat-resistant, aluminium coated borosilicate glass.

The new same-day service has undergone extensive testing over the last few months. "This testing has proved highly s

UK - Allen & Heath has released a valve board as an option for the recently launched and highly successful Xone:V6 DJ/Club mixer. The Xone:V6 valve board consists of a high quality double-sided fibreglass PCB carrying six premium grade double triode valves in cathode-follower configuration.

Each valve becomes an integral part of its corresponding channel's pre-amplifier, adding the classic valve sound and ‘warmth’ to any signals that run through it, say the company. Careful circuit design ensures that noise and headroom are not compromised and enhances the even harmonics associated with thermionic valve technology.

Installation of the board is simple - the outer casing of the Xone:V6 is removed and the valve board ‘plugged’ in without further modification. The Xone:V6 mixer has been enthusiastically received by DJs and clubs worldwide and commended for

Spain - KV2’s Spanish distributor Letusa has staged the first ‘live’ demonstration of KV2’s much anticipated ES Series at the Pro Audio 2003 exhibition in Madrid. Letusa were first introduced to KV2 at this year’s NAMM show and were appointed distributor for Spain and Portugal at ProLight+Sound in Frankfurt. "We are very proud of having Letusa as the first KV2 Audio distributor in Europe, as their enthusiasm and support to us has been incredible since the first meeting at the NAMM Show," says Alex Pagliani, sales director for Europe, Middle East and Africa at KV2 Audio.

Under the rules of the ‘shoot out’ each company had three 12-minute segments throughout the day, with no time allowed to tweak the boxes. Fortunately, KV2’s ‘Audio Twins’ were on hand in the shape of Andy Austin Brown and Jonathan Reece-Farren.

USA - High End Systems has introduced the new x.Spot Xtreme luminaire. With the 2:1 lens, x.Spot Xtreme is 40% brighter than the original x.Spot with a 4:1 lens. At 16,000 lumens, its brightness surpasses all other competing fixtures in its category, say High End.

Advances in lamp technology have been instrumental in the creation of this new product. Philips has developed the P3, or improved pinch lamp, which essentially allows the lamp to operate at higher temperatures than ever before. This offers increased brightness and extended lamp life. Software modifications and changes in the power supply also help boost the brightness. x.Spot Xtreme is available with either a 2:1 or 4:1 lens depending on customer preference. The x.Spot HO (High Output) will continue to be available.

They come in two sizes - the mini and the maxi (which can hold a load of 100kg) and are available in black and white in bags of 10s or 20s. Charles Haines, Halls’ managing director, said: "After years of making what felt like thousands of cyc stretchers and drape clamps out of 3 x 1 and sash cord in my days as a stage carpenter, I always thought there had to be a better way. There never seemed to be any left after a get-out and we had a ‘scraps box’ in the workshop - just for making replacements. Well, now we’ve got a better way - easy,

USA - Debuting recently at SAFECO Field in Seattle, among the big boys of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Martin Professional's new professional lighting console, Maxxyz, handled everything a major event could throw at it.

Held on Sunday, 23 March, WrestleMania XIX was the largest event ever held at SAFECO Field and the first major show (BETA test show) for the Maxxyz in the US. The overall lighting rig was made up of 16 large truss-structures of varying shapes and contained a mixture of automated (MAC 600, MAC 2000 Profile, Atomic 3000 Strobe) and conventional lighting and was controlled by multiple consoles. In the future, the need for this kind of arrangement will be replaced by a Maxxyz network system (either a single console or multiple consoles). Additional automated lighting was placed on stage and on a special entrance ramp.
