In recent years, Duran Audio have seen a growing market demand for high power digital directivity controlled (DDC) loudspeaker columns, such as the Intellivox 1608. The 1608 was the first ‘full range’ Intellivox, with previous units being better suited to vocal reinforcement. It continues to amaze engineers, say Duran, many finding it difficult to accept that what looks like an old-fashioned column loudspeaker can offer such transparent musical reproduction at high SPLs. Applications for the 1608 have ranged from speech reinforcement, live music in theatrical shows, corporate events and classical music concerts, and in acoustic environments such as churches, sports halls and factory buildings. The Intellivox 1608 has even served as a mobile touring system!

For Duran Audio, the growing acceptance of DDC-controlled systems in theatres and live concerts has been the key reason

Wharfedale Pro has extended the popular LiX high power series with the addition of the LiX-C215 bass enclosure. The C215 shares all the features of the other Lix-C Series products, which meet most portable and installation requirements. The LiX range is notable for its aluminium cast frame loudspeakers - with massive voice coils and extended excursion capability - while the design of handles and wheels into the cabinets makes LiX ideal road companions for semi-pro bands, cabaret and disco roadshow set-ups.

Highly effective heat dissipation mechanisms allow high sound pressure levels to be sustained over long periods with a minimum of power compression. Large magnet structures and tight construction tolerances give accuracy, high efficiency and reliability in demanding professional applications. The Wharfedale Pro-Tech driver protection system, integral to all LiX provides smooth and ef

Anyone who used the original 2001 Microphone Data Book from Rycote will know that besides being a comprehensive source of information, it was also 50mm thick and very heavy to carry around. Increasing to nearly a thousand microphones and more than 60 manufacturers, the move from paper to CD format became inevitable. Microphone Data - the CD-ROM is the successor and will be available from mid-January 2003.

It will feature an impressive search facility: type in the name of a manufacturer, a microphone - even its nickname - and you will get all the details you ever wanted. Rycote have sacrificed nothing of the standardised presentation of data, the pictures and the common-reference graphs. But now you can also search for all P48-powered cardioid microphones, costing less than $1000, that are shorter than 140mm to fit into that space on the presenter's desk. The original collection of arti

London-based rental specialist Sound Hire, which took delivery of one of the very first DiGiCo D5 Live digital mixing systems in September, has already committed further to the revolutionary platform by ordering an upgrade. Their second stage-end DigiRack (which contains the system’s inputs and A/D converters) expands their console’s capacity from 56 to 96 inputs, allowing it to replace two analogue consoles on many shows.

Says Sound Hire founder Richard Liénard: "It’s obvious that the future of sound has to be digital. For a long time it’s the thing that everyone’s thought would be wonderful but was scared about what would happen if it wasn’t totally stable. Then suddenly there was the answer at PLASA - the D5 Live - and we ordered it virtually the next day. The desk gives you an amazing amount of positive feedback on the input side: you can s

All products house proprietary-designed, coaxial two-way full range drive units, with sophisticated crossover design. In the case of the Twin 12 this is a 1 x 12" driver, and with the Twin 15, a 1 x 15&

Coemar has unveiled a trio of ground-breaking, multi-purpose moving yoke fixtures. iSpot FLEX, iWash FLEX and iProfile FLEX form a significant development in Coemar’s Carbon Fibre series, offering the lighting designer total creative freedom, with greater light output.

Previewed at last month’s LDI show (see full report in the December issue of L&SI), these instruments are highly flexible, covering all lighting applications in the power spectrum (up to 2k) - within a single unit! With the light output reduced, the low power/low noise factor makes it ideal for operating in television studios. At the top of its power rating FLEX will be at home in any arena or stadium concert rig, and actually runs brighter than Coemar’s NAT 4k fixture.

The brainchild of Bruno Dedoro and Fausto Orsatti, the FLEX range was designed in Coemar’s laboratories in Castelgoffredo, Ital

To celebrate the 21st birthday of one of its most consistently successful product designs, Formula Sound has launched the second generation of its enormously popular QUE - 8 and QUE - 10 foldback mixers a mere two decades after the first models appeared.

Although the Mk 2 units have a smart new appearance, plus some extra facilities, they still feature exactly the same internal design and construction which have made the original units consistently popular with artists and audio engineers throughout the world. Designed in conjunction with a world-famous recording studio, the original QUE - 8 and QUE - 10 gave musicians and vocalists the opportunity to set and adjust their own monitor mix without affecting any master recording or PA mix. The units featured 8 or 10 channels respectively, each with its own volume and pan control, plus a master treble, bass and volume control section. They

American Audio has introduced a classic-style rotary mixer - the DX-5R Rotary Mixer. A 4-channel rack-mount mixer, the DX-5R features large ‘retro-look’ silver rotary knobs on each of its channels. Besides their retro appeal, they should also find favour with DJs who like the ‘authentic’ feel of turning a rotary dial, as opposed to linear faders, say American Audio.

In addition to rotary knobs, each of the DX-5R’s four channels has individual LED indicators. The highly-visible LEDs make it easy for DJs to manipulate channel settings in any environment. The DX-5R is also equipped with a large Master Volume rotary knob. Additionally, there’s a 4-band rotary EQ on the master level that controls bass, mid low, mid high and treble. It comes standard-equipped with a high-quality Feather Fader for smooth, quick crossfades, and offers Fader Q Start, when us

In association with the launch of Stardraw.net, the first web-based CAD system, Stardraw has announced the introduction of bronze, silver and gold partner programmes. These offer different ways for anyone who is interested in, or whose customers may be interested in, online design and documentation systems to earn from or implement Stardraw.net applications.

The first tier is the bronze package, also known as the Affiliate programme. The programme, which is free to join and open to everyone, allows Affiliates to earn a 5% commission from all online purchases at www.stardraw.com that result from a click-through from their site. The silver package is the Stardraw.net Partner programme. Like the Affiliate programme, this is also free to implement, the difference being that rather than offering a simple link back to Stardraw.com, the Partner programme allows you to run the Stardraw.net app
