UK - SFL Group has installed an L-Acoustics line source system into the Dominion Church, based in a renovated 1930s Art Deco cinema in Wood Green, North London, using Kudo large format and Kiva ultra compact cabinets.

L-Acoustics' UK technical manager Jamie Gosney met the Dominion Church's technical manager Eben Awuah on hearing of the renovation project back in January. The church had been meeting in a room under cinema's balcony, which was already equipped with an L-Acoustics coaxial system, and it was time to expand into the rest of the building.

"Although it was clearly in the early stages of renovation, walking into the building was breathtaking as it's a perfect example of Art Deco architecture," says Gosney. "We discussed the church's audio requirements and it became clear that high sound quality and versatility were essential as music concerts and confer

USA - The Minnesota Orchestral Association (MOA) has appointed Sound Space Design to serve as acoustical consultant for the expansion and renovation of Orchestra Hall, Orchestra President and CEO Michael Henson announced yesterday. The acoustical team, led by Robert Essert, will be responsible for ensuring that Orchestra Hall's current acoustics are preserved throughout the renovation, for making onstage acoustical modifications and for advising on lobby acoustics.

Sound Space Design, founded by Robert Essert in 2002, has designed acoustics for performing arts venues across the world, including the newly-opened Winspear Opera House in Dallas, Toronto's Koerner Hall and London's Menuhin Hall.

Orchestra Hall is well-known for its symphonic acoustics, which were originally designed by Cyril Harris. "Bob Essert and Sound Space Design will be involved in every decision that we

USA - Flamingo Audio Owner Brad Walker comes from a music recording background, and his company still does plenty of that at their Seattle-area facility. But their real bread and butter these days comes from systems installation and live sound. As Walker puts it, "The installation work keeps us smart, and the live sound work makes us fast." And for a company that has to cover as many categories of events as Flamingo Audio - from concerts to corporate, from government to tribal - the EAW NTL720 self-powered line array loudspeaker system has been a versatile solution.

"We really like the physical form factor of the NTL720, as well as the way it sounds," says Walker, who notes that the NTL720's compact dimensions, flexible mounting possibilities and scalable deployment let it be used in a wide range of situations. For instance, at the Kitsap Arts & Crafts Festiv

USA - The new Dallas Cowboys stadium has opened its doors, and with costs in excess of $1 billion it is one of the most advanced sports and entertainment venue in the world to-date. The audio/video system not only features the world's largest HD on field display, but several offerings from Community Professional Loudspeakers.

Fans are welcomed to the stadium by 84 R.5 all-weather loudspeakers mounted to glowing light poles on the sidewalks surrounding the building. The R.5s provide live announcements and pre-recorded playback material and were selected for their "weather serviceability and high output in a small package". The shape and colour of the R.5 enclosure also closely resembled the lighting fixtures making them the perfect choice for the application.

Inside the stadium, Community i2W8 full-range two-way boxes ring the main seating bowl and provide under-balco

UK - Adlib Audio is supplying The Specials with sound equipment and the crew of James Neale and Richy Nicholson for their current UK tour.

Adlib was chosen to be the audio supplier by tour manager Mike Darling, with whom they have worked on several seasons of Ibiza Rocks and other projects.

Neale and Nicholson are working with the band's engineers Marcos Ferrari (FOH) and Pete Abbot (monitors) on a tour that ranges from small arenas and to provincial theatres. So the primary requirement of the system was that it be exceptionally flexible.

The main FOH speaker system is L-Acoustics V-Dosc (specified by Ferrari), however Adlib are also carrying some dV-Dosc and Arcs cabinets for the larger shows. In the largest configuration, this is set up as main left and right flown hangs of 8 V-Dosc cabinets and a under hang of three dV-Dosc per side. The flown side hangs consisted of six d

India - Famed for its sunny weather, indigo-tinged houses and tourist attractions including palaces, temples and the Mehrangarh Fort, the Indian city of Jodhpur now has another claim to fame - it is home to the first DiGiCo SD8 digital mixing console in the country.

Sold by DiGiCo's Indian distributor, Mumbai-based Rivera International to local production company Rajan Amplifiers, the SD8 is part of a system which includes a large JBL and DAS loudspeaker system, with Crown and Lab.gruppen amplifiers.

"We had looked at a number of digital consoles and we were keen to go with a different one, but Rivera International were very persistent," says Rajan Amplifiers owner Rajan Panwar.

"We purchase all our high-end gear from them and have always been completely happy with their equipment suggestions. Their advice was to try the SD8 and so we agreed to give it a shot.

Germany - In the new Rudolf-Harbig Stadium, the city of Dresden - and its third division football team, SG Dynamo Dresden - possesses one of the most modern and attractive stadiums in Germany. The arena was opened in mid-September after slightly less than two years' construction, and boasts a capacity of over 32,000 spectators, a VIP area capable of accommodating just under 1,200 guests, and a customer-friendly infrastructure.

The new building, erected on the site of the old Dynamo Stadium in Dresden's Volkspark, cost around 46 million euros - a budget that left the planners and organizers plenty room for a state-of-the-art stadium design. Already, barely two months since the opening of the new arena, their decision has been vindicated, as the stadium has not only proved a magnificent setting for SG Dynamo Dresden's home games but also impressed FIFA authorities enough for them

Turkey/USA - Following the recent launch of their latest version 1.0 IQOYA V*MOTE audio-over-IP codec with SIP software, which is part of the IQOYA family of IP audio hardware and software solutions, Digigram has announced the first success story of a V*MOTE/V*CALL system by a Turkish broadcaster in Istanbul, the Power Radio group.

V*MOTE is an audio-over-IP software solution for remote contributions - usually a journalist in the field reporting back to a studio. By simply installing V*MOTE onto any laptop PC, it becomes a professional "contribution" codec. Advanced ergonomics make it extremely simple to set up and operate, enabling the journalist to establish a connection with a newsroom or studio at the touch of a button.

Power Radio's technical director, Okan Celen, confirmed that ease of use was one of the biggest selling points for him. "We needed a simple

For this concert, they relied on plug-ins from Waves Audio.

Royal News - The Queen has been entertained by a host of stars at the first Royal Variety Performance to be held in Blackpool since 1955. The town's illuminations had lit the way as the royal party made its way to the Opera House in the Winter Gardens. The charity event's host, comedian Peter Kay, welcomed the Queen to "the entertainment capital of the world". The show's performers included Lady Gaga, Bette Midler, Whoopi Goldberg and Britain's Got Talent winners Diversity.

Blackpool's Opera House, which seats 2,900 people, was used to host the show in the 1950s era of acts such as Morecambe and Wise, Arthur Askey and George Formby. The annual event was first staged in 1912 and the proceeds go towards the Variety Artistes' Benevolent Fund. The show's staging in Blackpool comes in the wake of BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing being staged at the resort's Tow

Although the Rettorato (Chancellor's Building) at the Palazzo dell'Università - which houses the entire administration - occupies an architecturally-magnificent building with a historic quadrangle that dates back to the mid-1700's, the University was originally founded in 1404 by Pope Benedetto XIII, making it among the few of European Universities to boast a medieval origin.

Recently the Rettorato's aula magna - the great hall, and main assembly room for the University - underwent a complete audio-visual fit-out.

UK - When Alice Cooper embarked on his current UK and European Theatre of Death tour, his long-serving sound engineer Randy Meullier was finally able to bag his first choice digital console - the Soundcraft Vi6.

And he says he largely has Pete Russell at the SSE Audio Group to thank. Taking over the European sound production duties from Phoenix-based Precise Corporate Staging (PCS), by the time Russell suggested that Meullier try the Soundcraft platform (with the Vistonics II interface), the sound man - who has been piloting the legendary rocker's front-of-house mixes for the past seven years - had already served his baptism on the Vi6 in Norway and Cyprus.

"Earlier in this tour I did a fly-in show at the Skaanevik Festival in Norway and it was a joy to use the Vi6," he said. "I was delighted when Pete told me he could make one available.

UK - Following the recent launch of its new dBDI-2 dual active direct injection (DI) box, Apex reports strong sales activity within the live, broadcast, recording and A/V markets. The dBDI-2 is also proving popular with many of the world's leading rental companies including EML and Korea Seoul Sound.

Belgium-based EML is the main supplier for the current Simple Minds Graffiti Soul tour, with EML's sound designer and FOH engineer, Patrick DemOustier, using the dBDI-2 on Eddie Duffy's bass rig. He commented: "I'm using the unit for two separate bass channels. It sounds really good and compares very well against the other DIs I use, as well as being a clever box. Apex has taken the basic DI and added some interesting versatility to it. A good example of this involves the RCA inputs; these are a clever and simple addition in a world where iPods and laptops are used for i

USA - In June 1981, the parishioners of Saint Brendon Church dedicated their brand new sanctuary in Youngstown, Ohio. The building's ornate architecture, meticulously planned colour schemes and soaring ceilings have brought joy and pride to the congregation.

While the room's four second reverb time made for a majestic choir and organ sound, the drums and guitars of the church's contemporary services were a challenge to tame. And for sermons and spoken word presentations, the intelligibility factor was more than a little problematic. The church needed a solution that would provide high intelligibility without impacting the room's aesthetics, and found it in Community Entasys loudspeakers.

"They had tried a number of other systems over the years, but it usually involved conventional speaker cabinets flown too high to achieve any directionality," says Jay Dunkle of Radi

Europe - Promoting Foot Of The Mountain - their first album in four years - Norwegian pop superstars A-Ha have spent the autumn touring venues throughout Europe and Japan with a DiGiCo SD7 at Front of House and an SD8 on monitors.

Manning the SD7 was FOH engineer Sherif El Barbari, reacquainting himself with the console he first used 18 months ago when manning the faders for South African singer Howard Carpendale.

"For me, using either a DiGiCo D5 or SD7 feels like meeting up with an old friend," says El Barbari. "Given the flexibility and the sonic quality of both consoles, it is a 'comfort factor' that definitely makes life much easier.

"I specified the SD7 for this tour because of that and for the complete confidence it instils that I can deliver a great show time after time."

As well as the three members of the band itself, A-Ha was tour

Hong Kong - After five successful years in Taiwan, the singing extravaganza Asian Million Star premiered in Hong Kong with help from the versatile, frequency-agile AKG DMS 700 wireless microphone system. The popular television show, which started months before the on-air premier with 5,000 aspiring singers, featured 25 contestants competing over the course of 13 episodes, with a panel of judges selecting the best vocal performers to move on to the finale.

Judges for the show included an array of respected audio and musical professionals ranging from creative composers to studio producers. With some of the most finely tuned ears in the business deciding the fate of each performer, the AKG DMS 700 system matched musical talent with sonic integrity.
