Hungary - Only 60 km from Vienna, southwest of Lake Neusiedler, lies the Hungarian city of Sopron. Sopron (Ödenburg in German) is not only a university town but also the home of HK Audio's Hungarian distributor IFK.

Recently when the Petõfi Theater of Sopron was looking for a new sound system, they asked various vendors to conduct a system demo. Naturally IFK was among the bidders. IFK won with the HK Audio Cadis System they proposed.

The Petõfi Theater, with a rich tradition going back two centuries and its Vienna Secession style, is located in the middle of the Old City of Sopros and holds an audience of about 550. The programme ranges from classical and modern drama to comedy and musicals. The new system is made up of six HK Audio Cadis CAD 208 cabs as the centre cluster, two ConTour Series CT 112 12"/1.4" mid/high units and CT 118 Subs on both the left and the

Germany - Berlin's O2 World venue staged the MTV European Music Awards featuring some of the music industry's most popular artists of 2009. With plenty of live performances between the business of handing out the gongs, Sennheiser supported the event for the seventh year in a row by providing microphones, in-ear monitoring systems and technical assistance.

Working closely with the event's sound designer Derrick Zieba and audio company Britannia Row, Mark Saunders and Andy Lillywhite of Sennheiser UK were there to provide hands-on support for the many performers using Sennheiser equipment.

The company supplied G2 series in-ear monitors for every performer, as well as SKM 5200 handheld mics with Neumann KK 105 capsules for all the presenters.

With Berlin being Neumann's home city, it was appropriate for the company's capsules to feature.

The Netherlands - At ISE 2010, Calibre is unveiling the all-new HQView range of processors, which includes models capable of performing warp mapping and seamless soft-edge blending of multiple projected images.

"As a company, we have a very well-established reputation for providing ultra-dependable, ultra-high quality products in situations where people's lives can depend on the delivery of the right imaging at the right time," says Tim Brooksbank, chairman at Calibre.

"What is perhaps less well-known is that we also make many products suitable for applications such as corporate AV, where the emphasis is on raising the quality of multiple video sources to a uniformly high standard, and residential systems, where the usage may be more casual but the expectation of quality is getting higher all the time.

UK - St Anne's Church on Alderney in the Channel Islands has long been central to island life, both as a church and more recently as a venue for concerts and events. Often referred to as the 'Cathedral of the Channel Islands' because of its size and grandeur, it has a capacity for a congregation or audience of up to 650 people, and makes the perfect setting for visiting choirs and bands.

With the church actively encouraging appropriate use of the church for outside events, a high quality sound system is imperative, but over the years it became increasingly difficult to hear and enjoy both the spoken word and recorded or live music over a system that was installed more than 25 years ago. When a bequest from a local island resident made money available for 'a project that would benefit both the church and the congregation', the sound system was top priority.

UK - When Wendy and Jonathan Joseph were running Mama Stone's live music venue in its former location, they contacted Tad Barker at Tickle Music in London to provide a rental studio to a standard that would enable Wendy's daughter - the singer Joss Stone - to record an album.

But Mama Stone's duly became a victim of its own success. When the club's popularity outgrew its location in Wellington, and the council started to receive noise complaints from neighbours, the Josephs sought to upgrade the operation, moving to larger premises in the centre of Exeter.

This time they approached Tickle Music for a fully-installed public address system, including a Soundcraft Si2 digital desk. Once again the technical infrastructure needed to be equal to Joss Stone's performance criteria, since she would be opening the new venue.

Wendy and Jonathan Joseph spent in excess of £500,000

France - To manage field contribution from reporters or to transmit programmes from A to B, typically for STL (studio-to-transmitter links) or SSL (studio-to-studio link) over IP networks, broadcasters face a variety of challenges. They might need to stream audio over building-to-building distances or more likely over long distances, to remote locations (e.g. transmitters).

The transmission line quality and bandwidth they have to cope with might also vary in the same proportions, depending on available network infrastructures.

For that reason, Digigram, as a key manufacturer of IP audio codec equipment, says it is committed to offering its partners and customers the widest range of options when it comes to audio compression algorithms.

Recently, and in addition to existing options, Digigram R&D labs heavily - and successfully - tested the apt-X Enhanced audio compression enc

UK - The recent closure of EDC, Britain's largest optical disc manufacturing plant, has left many UK music industry professionals without an established supplier of CDs and DVDs. However, in the wake of the shut-down, a former EDC manager has founded a new business - Quick Discs Limited - which seeks to restore manufacturing capacity and to provide continuity of service to musicians, distributors and record labels across the country.

Based in Blackburn, near to EDC's original site, Quick Discs has been launched by Grant Mitchell, who had worked at the company for more than 20 years. When, earlier this year, the decision was taken to close EDC's Blackburn facility and to move all operations to Germany, Grant recognised that many UK music producers - one of the company's primary customer groups - would be left without a specialist supplier. He therefore resolved to create a new bu
