USA - Australian-based audio company RØDE Microphones has announced the iXY, a stereo microphone for iPhone and iPad with 30-pin connector that allows high quality recording at sampling rates up to 24-bit/96kHz, "the only microphone on the market to do so," says the company.

Appearing at the International CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas for the first time, the company has unveiled the innovative device to an expected audience of over 150,000 visitors.

At the heart of the iXY is a matched pair of ½" cardioid condenser capsules, fixed in a perfect 90 degree 'near-coincident' alignment resulting in immersive and true-to-life stereo recordings, captured in incredibly high detail, says RØDE. The iXY uses its own high-fidelity analogue to digital conversion ensuring all recordings are "rich, smooth and accurate".

Brazil - The Expo Center Norte, located in Sao Paulo, is one of Latin America's most versatile and comprehensive exhibition and convention centres. The venue first opened in 1993 and has over 98,000sq.m of space for hosting a wide range of events, including trade shows, conventions and corporate events.

Roberto Benedito from the Expo Center Norte requested a proposal for upgrading the venues sound system from Sao Paulo-based systems integrator Soundvision. The original sound system was unintelligible and event attendees could not hear important announcements, which was of great concern to the venue's management.

Benelux - The last three months of 2012 have seen popular Belgian rock band Zornik on an extensive tour to promote their latest album Less > More. Playing 25 dates in their home country, plus four in the Netherlands, a range of venue sizes has meant that a flexible audio system was required. A Coda Airline LA8 system was chosen.

Argentina - DPA Microphones were present in abundance at the Gran Rex Theatre in Buenos Aires when keyboardist and composer Rick Wakeman played two concerts featuring his best-selling albums Journey to the Centre of the Earth and The Six Wives of Henry VIII.

The concerts were the culmination of a South American tour that also included six band-only shows in Brazil, Chile and Argentina. The final two sell-out concerts in Buenos Aires involved two different full orchestral shows, complete with a five-piece rock band, a choir, narration and solo singers.

Canada / Germany - Vocal processing expert TC-Helicon and audio specialist Sennheiser have unveiled their partnership in the field of vocal effects microphones. Combining their extensive expertise in creating tools for vocalists and microphone technology, the two companies have been working on joint research projects since 2011, and will launch a joint product at NAMM in January 2013.

"The initial spark for our co-operation was at NAMM 2011, when TC-Helicon premiered a microphone with controls for vocal effects and Sennheiser demonstrated 'Concept Tahoe', a beatboxing microphone developed in their research lab in the USA," says Kevin Alexander, CEO of TC-Helicon. South Africa - A Midas PRO1, supplied and installed by South African Midas partner Prosound, ensured one of Durban's most prominent theatres went digital just in time for its fast moving Christmas production - Beauty and the Beast.
