UK - Lighting, control and dimming manufacturer ETC reports an enthusiastic response to their new and updated products at this year's ABTT show in London.

In addition to showing the latest software versions of the company's lighting control desk range, the company were showing the latest portable dimming from the Smart Solutions range and the new additions to award winning Selador series of LED fixtures.

Mark White, ETC's regional manager for UK and Ireland, said, "The signs of economic uplift continue; many of the initial enquiries we received last year are turning into firm orders, and this was reflected in the amount of interest in many of the products on the ETC stand."

USA - DNP Denmark showcased a suite of innovative media solutions at InfoComm 2010. All received an extremely enthusiastic reception, and according to S°ren Kræmmergaard, dnp denmark's global sales manager, these successes were in context with the show - which he felt had firmly turned the corner.

"The AV industry in the US seems to be on the right track again after the global economical tsunami," he stated. "While dnp denmark has weathered the global crisis well, the US market in particular has been badly affected - but now we are glad to see that things are changing."

UK - The ABTT (Association of British Theatre Technicians) reports another successful new product Awards ceremony staged at its annual ABTT Theatre Show.

This year the competition for the coveted Hook Clamp Trophies was as strong as ever, with a host of companies entered across five key categories, which represent the spectrum of the industry. The Awards continue to set a precedent, highlighting the spectrum of products and services for the theatre production and staging market. The winners of the Awards were:

Best New Lighting Product: White Light scooped the Award for best new lighting product with its Prism Reveal, which was chosen by the judges for its flat field, colour correcting ability and overall efficiency. The nominees in this category included: Robin 300 Plasma Spot from Robe; the Gekko Kezia LED Spot Lamp from PRG and the Cyclo LED Panel from Showtex.

UK - Bose is to exhibit at this year's PLASA exhibition for the first time in a decade. The decision was taken as the company's Professional Systems Division pushes forward with plans to work more closely with consultants and integrators on a series of prestigious projects.

Bose Pro divisional manager, Simon Holley, says, "It's been several years since Bose last exhibited at PLASA, but we feel that the time is right to demonstrate our commitment to the pro audio market. We have some exciting new products in the developmental stage, so this year is all about connecting with new contacts and building on existing relationships to create a strong foundation from which to move forward. The currrent number of exhibitors is more than 350, including pavilions exhibitors, and the total exhibition area has been increased to 23,000sq.m, reflecting exhibitor confidence in having their products exposed to domestic and international markets.

UK - The Association of British Theatre Technicians reports that the 32nd ABTT Theatre Show was its biggest show yet, both in the number of visitors through the doors and exhibiting companies that filled The Royal Horticultural Halls to capacity.

This year's record attendance bucked trends with a return to the show's previous visitor record in 2008. This rise in attendance following a dip due to a tube strike during the 2009 event and highlights the show's position of strength despite the recession.

In a bid to increase networking at its awards event the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards commissioned Cinimod Studio to create an effective and visually stimulating solution. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology was used to identify key visitors on the two 'networking pods' during the evening's proceedings.

The tags embedded in shortlisted designers and sponsors' name badges used radio signals to send their identity to antenna receivers. Projections then highlighted guests' key professional characteristics (projects designed, sponsor brands) as they moved around the pods.

UK - PLASA Events and The Theatres Trust have announced the first Ecovenue feature at this year's PLASA Show focusing on sustainable practices and technologies for theatres and performing arts venues.

PLASA 2010, which runs from the 12-15 September at Earls Court in London, is a major platform for the launch and promotion of innovative new ideas emerging across the event, entertainment and installation industries. The Theatres Trust's Ecovenue feature is a significant new addition to the event, designed to showcase the pioneering environmental efficiency practices being implemented across London venues.

technicians working in the theatrical or events industries. The course, Rigging and Working at Height in the Entertainment Industry, is designed to provide the knowledge and practical guidance needed to work safely when rigging equipment high above a stage or auditorium.

Over three days, course attendees will learn from industry professionals and trained instructors on all aspects of safe working at height. Classroom-based theory, hands-on practical sessions and discussion groups are all part of the package which is aimed at keeping everyone involved and active throughout.

"Falls from height continue to be one of the biggest causes of workplace injury and death. Theatres and stages can be particularly hazardous places to work," says Black Light's technical manager Craig Collin. "

France - Now in its 13th year, the Cognac Festival (la Fete du Cognac) was originally born of an initiative from a group of young winegrowers wanting to boost the profile and celebrate the world's most famous brandy. The four-day festival which took place on the marina in Cognac in south-western France attracted some 15,000 visitors from 8-11 July who came to savour the local gastronomy and listen to music from some of France's most reputed artists.
