UK - Star Events Group announces that its Design and Engineering department has recently taken on three new staff following substantial increases to the company's workload and turnover.

The three new staff are: Tony Benabu (senior design engineer, Aaron Enos (design engineer) and Anthony Reeves (CAD technician).

Steve Horton (Design Division manager) will move to a consulting role at the end of August, focussing primarily on new product development and Mark Constant retains his position as design office manager.

"This enhanced staffing level will enable us to get our engineers on site more frequently thus building closer relationships with the crews that build our structures, leading to a heightened awareness on both sides of the levels of safety and efficiency the company requires," says Constant.

Czech Republic - Five days dedicated to lighting and sound design will literally light up and resonate the programme of this year's Prague Quadrennial (PQ) of Performance Design and Space, the world's largest event dedicated to performance design, held in Prague every fourth year since 1967. This year, the PQ will occupy the city centre and public spaces around town from 16-26 June, with Light and Sound - one of PQ's seven sub-projects, bringing Prague's National Theatre to life from 19-23 June.

Light and Sound is being organised by PQ's general commissioner, scenographer Boris Kudli?ka, and by UK-based sound designer Steve Brown. The section will feature an exhibition, interactive presentations of the latest approaches to sound and lighting, and panel discussions, with the personal participation of famous artists such as Scanner, Tod Machover, Olaf Winter and Feli

Czech Republic - Set to take place during this year's Prague Quadrennial, Scenofest is an educational project of the Prague Quadrennial and OISTAT which looks at more than just sound and lighting design - it also presents workshops focused on the entire range of performative and theatre arts. As with the PQ's other projects, inter-disciplinarity plays an important role in the educational programme, meaning that audiences can look forwards to novel approaches such as the combination of sound and costume design in a workshop led by a team from Purdue University (USA), headed by professor Richard K. India - The Indian Recording Arts Awards (IRAA) aim to highlight the esteemed technical and creative talent contributed by leading sound recordists, music composers, music directors and recording engineers. IRAA was launched in 2006 as the Recording Arts (RA) Awards for music recording, sound designing & soundtrack by Pro Sound Systems - India's only trade publication on music production and live sound - and the Audio Engineering Society (AES) India.

The 2010 Expo saw the rebranding of RA to IRAA, but despite the name change the awards retain the same goal of recognizing the creative art forms of sound recording, mixing and mastering and, of course, creating music, say organisers.

UK - At this year's ABTT show, The First Night Riders (FNRs), will once more be shaking their money raising buckets in aid of theatre charity, The Theatrical Guild.

On the 15-16 June, at the Royal Horticultural Halls, London, the money raising motorcyclists will be showcasing photo highlights from last year's charity ride. However this year they will be looking to top last year's total of £12,000.

This photo slideshow, which features backstage images of number of historically important UK venues, will be displayed on a large screen, generously provided by Blitz Video and positioned in the Lawrence Hall Foyer.

FNR organisers will be on hand on both show days to sign up any motorbike-riding volunteers looking for adventure! The ride will depart on 18 June from outside of the National Theatre, London, escorted by London police motorbike outriders.

UK - At this year's ABTT Theatre Show, both the organiser - the Association of British Theatre Technicians - and an exhibitor that has appeared at the show every year since the show began - White Light - will mark important milestones, with the ABTT celebrating its fiftieth anniversary, and White Light turning 40.

USA - R&B artist R. Kelly recently wrapped up a European leg of his Love Letter world tour that sees him playing shows across the US this summer. Lighting director for the tour is Alex Skowron who programmed and operates the show on a Martin Professional M1 lighting console.

"I've been programming on a Maxxyz since 2006 and made the transition over to the M1 on this tour. The M1 is noticeably faster than its predecessor," says Skowron.

UK - One of London's most colourful events, the Baishakhi Mela, enjoyed its 14th successful year in early May, as 100,000 people convened in and around Brick Lane in Tower Hamlets to welcome the Bengali New Year. Working closely with the local council and Metropolitan Police, AP Security helped to ensure that the family event was enjoyed by all.

"The Mela takes place over a wide area, covering Allen Gardens, Weavers Fields, Brick Lane and the surrounding streets.
