Belgium - Now in its 20th year, the festival celebrating all genres of electronic music is hosted in the aptly named town of Boom in Belgium. This year, Holoplot’s X1 system was chosen to provide the sound for The Atmosphere stage, a custom-made circus-top tent featuring DJs including Amber Broos, Dyen, Ellen Allien, Olympe, Adam Beyer and others. At close to 30m high and 30m wide, it can accommodate up to five thousand techno fans. The system utilises two main arrays consisting of six X1 modules each, with six surrounds of two X1 modules each.

China - Brompton Technology joined INFiLED’s 15th anniversary celebration on 9 September at the InterContinental Dameisha Resort in Shenzhen. The event highlighted INFiLED’s role as one of the leading providers of LED display solutions and celebrated the long-standing partnerships, including the one with Brompton Technology, that have propelled advancements in the LED industry.

The anniversary featured a variety of activities, including speeches from INFiLED’s CEO and vice-president, along with testimonials from key business partners such as Brompton Technology, LANG AG, and RM Multimedia, highlighting their successful collaboration with INFiLED. UK - Avolites, a Robe business, chose this year’s PLASA Show to debut its new Diamond 7 (D7) console in the UK – the newest addition to the Avolites Diamond collection.

The two variants, the D7-330 and D7-215 received lots of attention across the show days from students and industry professionals. The console offers high-end performance that can travel anywhere you go.

Also making its debut at the PLASA Show was Prism One, the latest version of Avolites’ Prism media software (soon to be released) designed principally for lighting designers.

Key new features include an added preview window, cross fade on a layer, hardware decode acceleration for H.264/H.265, control over multiple banks and layers, live input and NDI input, as well as virtual return and region of interest on outputs.

UK - Audio specialist tube uk helped design sound, as well as specify and implement an innovative system to deliver Where to Begin, the opening event of the 2024 Edinburgh International Festival (EIF), working closely with creative agency Pinwheel under the artistic direction of Katy Fuller and composer Roma Yagnik.

Yagnik created the musical highlight for an immersive pre-show experience followed by a large projection spectacular, with video content produced by Yeast Culture, which was mapped and beamed by Graymatter Video onto the north façade of George Heriot School, founded in 1628, which is overlooked by Edinburgh Castle.

The ticketed event kicked off the 2024 EIF with great flair. It ran over three evenings and was enjoyed by 3,000 people each night, celebrating the energy, vibrance and spirit of the city and the alchemy of invention

UK - Martin Audio and Solotech UK (formerly as Capital Sound) have been permanent incumbents at BST Hyde Park since AEG Presents took over the Hyde Park lease in 2013, and Martin Audio PAs feature site wide.

But this year, Solotech were represented by a different system engineer in Rayne Ramsden. And while he was working to the same offsite sound level thresholds (75dBA) as set out by acoustic consultants Vanguardia, he was nevertheless able to squeeze out a couple of extra dB at FOH, giving them a potential of 101dB(A) without breaching offsite limits.

UK - Event production company NL Productions has been awarded the contract opportunity to deliver Dundee’s Christmas Village for the next three years. This development promises to bring festive magic to the heart of the city, “offering a vibrant celebration that will engage the local community and attract visitors from far and wide”.

The contract will run for further years until Christmas 2026. Earlier this year Dundee City Council announced they were looking to partner with a professional event management company to run the festive attraction in December.

The Christmas Village will be designed to appeal to all ages, offering something for everyone. The centrepiece is a 10m x 20m real ice rink where visitors can glide into the festive season. The Christmas Market will showcase local traders and caterers, offering unique gifts and seasonal treat

UK - All the stars aligned for RCF UK at this year’s PLASA Show in London, resulting in what head of the UK operation, Dean Davoile, described as “our best PLASA showing ever”.

As one of only two companies to occupy a dedicated sound demo room, RCF was able to drive traffic upstairs from their ground floor booth – and this was certainly a winning formula. “Whether it was a stroke of absolute genius or pure luck, everything just worked, and often visitors were struggling to get into the demo room,” he said.

Once inside, they were able to sample RCF’s new NXL14-A with SUB15-AX 15in bass reflex cab and NX 932-A active full range speaker and SUB18-AX (portable 18in) combinations, and also specifically the new TT+ Audio GTX10, paired for the first time with the new GTS 19G (1 x 19in) ground-stackable subwoofer.

UK - Fourier Audio is thrilled to announce that it has been honoured with the prestigious 2024 PLASA Award for Innovation for its transform.engine. France - Located at the confluence of the Vienne and Goire rivers, Confolens is a commune in southwestern France with a permanent population of around 3,000 people. But each summer this small town welcomes almost 150,000 visitors for the Festival de Confolens, when 600 artists gather for one of France’s largest celebrations of world music, dance and folklore.

Originally founded in 1957, the week-long festival is organised and operated by a group of 350 volunteers and takes place at various locations in the town, from the mainstage at the Théâtre des Ribières to the Place Henri Coursaget, taking in the church of St Maxime, the Guinguette and the Halles.

USA - Since it launched in 2008, Outside Lands, one of America’s premier music and arts festivals, has annually transformed San Francisco’s vast Golden Gate Park into a cultural celebration, elevated by Meyer Sound systems provided by the Bay Area’s own UltraSound.

UK - The winners of the 2024 PLASA Awards for Innovation were announced last night at PLASA Show, currently running at Olympia London. The awards, run in association with LSi, are respected industry-wide for celebrating future-focussed technology that improves safety, efficiency and performance through new methods and materials.

44 products were entered this year, with the judges ultimately awarding eight products. And, for the first time in a number of years, the judges were delighted to also award the sustainability award. This year’s judging team comprised 13 independent technical specialists from a wide array of backgrounds, chaired once again by chartered engineer and LSi columnist, James Eade.

UK - Serious Stages’ Stellar Stage featured headliners The Prodigy, Sonny Fodera and Skrillex at Leeds and Reading Festivals’ new Chevron Stage earlier this month.

Designed and manufactured in 2024 at Serious Stages Wells HQ, the new 20m wide roof, with 8m screen and PA goalposts, was flanked by 12 6m high scaff towers supporting giant chevron LEDs, supplied by Colour Sound Experiment. Completing a distinctive arena design, a striking LED net curtain roof was suspended over the audience in front of the stage, creating a spectacular light show, supplied by Special Structures Lab and Colour Sound Experiment.

USA - This summer, Wonderland Forest, a campground and concert venue by GFY Entertainment, transformed the rolling hills of Central New York's Apple Valley into a hub of musical performances. The venue hosted a series of concerts and festivals all season long, powered by a 1 Sound audio system for the outdoor festival-style stage.

Trained Mental Health First Aiders from Backup and Music Support will be available for the whole show to share information and signpost, with specific support again being offered by EventWell in the Safe-Space for anyone who needs it, at any point during the show. UK - Robe is using the buzz and hustle of the 2024 PLASA London expo to launch four new products – the iForte Fresnel, the Painte Fresnel, the SVOPATT and the SVB1.
