UK - With only one day remaining of the PLASA Show 2006, visitors still have time to register their interest in PLASA's National Rigging Certificate. Visitors can learn more about the initiative designed to give riggers working in all sectors a framework by which their expertise and knowledge can be measured.

Rigging assessors are currently undertaking assessment pilots to demonstrate that they meet the standards within the National Rigging Certificate, and each assessor is also working towards achieving an A1 Award - the nationally recognised award in assessment.

Europe - Since first shipping about a year ago, the EAW NT Series self-powered loudspeakers with "Gunness Focusing" onboard DSP technology has been making significant strides into the global professional audio market. Already, nearly 200 NT Series systems have gone to customers in Europe.

EAW international sales manager, Sean Martin reports, "What's amazing about the NT Series is that in almost every case, it inspires people sufficiently for them to ring us up to tell us how pleased they are with the product.Habitual EAW customers are used to dealing with high quality product, so they don't necessarily call us up to say thank you every time we sell them a KF760 system because they already know what they're getting. NT Series is different without exception, customers are blown away by how good it sounds, and are genuinely pleased to tell us about it."

The first new product launch was the much-anticipated Lancelot from Robert Juliat, a high-powered effect projector/followspot aimed at the largest productions and venues. UK - A major government lobbying campaign is about to be initiated to address Ofcom's proposals, as part of the planned TV switchover from analogue to digital, to sell-off the radio frequencies currently used by the UK entertainment industry.

BEIRG - the British Entertainment Industry Radio Group - is fighting to maintain access to a sufficient quantity and quality of radio frequencies to ensure that the UK live events sector can continue to deliver the world-class theatre productions, concerts, festivals and events that it has become known for worldwide.

If BEIRG is not successful in persuading Ofcom to review the situation, the entire RF Spectrum from 470-862MHz will be auctioned to the highest bidder, most likely operators of mobile telecommunications networks, leaving the UK entertainment industry without a licence.
