UK - Dolly Parton, one of the most honoured female country performers of all time, has unveiled a plaque of her handprints, which will be on permanent display in Wembley, London's Square of Fame. The ceremony took place as Parton prepared to go on stage for a sold-out performance at Wembley Arena, part of the singer's 17-city, 10-country European tour.

The legendary singer, songwriter and actress joins other iconic artists including Madonna, Cliff Richard, Status Quo, George Michael, Kylie Minogue and snooker champion Stephen Hendry in having a permanent cast of her hands in the Square of Fame. On unveiling her handprints, Parton commented: "It is wonderful to be performing here at Wembley and an honour to leave my handprints in the Square. I never realised just how small my hands are."

UK - Avesco, the international service provider to the presentation, entertainment and broadcast markets, has announced a proposed reverse takeover of InvestinMedia.

The merger of the two businesses will effectively double the size of the existing Avesco group with combined net assets approaching £50 million and substantial financial resources to fund future development. The existing Avesco team will continue to manage the enlarged business providing continuity for both staff and customers.

InvestinMedia recently sold its 49% stake in Complete Communications, world-wide rights holder of the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? TV show, producing a substantial profit on its investment. UK Talbot Designs managing director Richard Woolff is facing the challenge of a lifetime as he limbers ups for a marathon cycle ride for charity. Woolff is leaving these shores and donning his cycle shorts for a 110 mile mountain bike ride round the Northern rim of the Grand Canyon in the USA. The trip which is being fully funded by Woolff will involve him cycling 25-30 miles per day over rough terrain at altitudes of up to 8000 feet. He is training daily in preparation for the ride.

The charities benefiting from his ride are SANDS for bereaved parents and families and HOPEHIV which seeks to help the 16 million orphans in Africa who have lost their parents to AIDS. He has raised almost £2000 so far.

UK - Research for the proposed National Skills Academy for the Creative and Cultural Industries suggests that current and projected growth in live entertainment will generate demand for an extra 10,000 skilled offstage and technical staff over the next decade. And with half of the current workforce expected to retire or leave the industry by 2017, the total estimated number of recruits required rises to around 30,000.

The three bands in the final, Liverpool's The Kashmirs, Hertfordshire's Flamboyant Bella, and London's own The Standards, will now take the stage at Koko on the evening of Friday 1 June, with DJ support from Mani of Primal Scream, before the Club NME event happening at Koko later the same evening.

USA - Aviom has announced several additions to its global sales team.

Jonathan 'JP' Parker, who has been serving as Aviom's sales director in the Southeastern US, is now assuming the role of director of international sales, Asia Pacific.

Mark Meding, who has been Aviom's sales director for the Northeast US and Canada, will now assume Parker's former Southeastern territory and will be in charge of sales throughout the entire East Coast of the US.

The Canadian territory is now back in the hands of Aviom's longtime international sales director, Joel Brazy, who also continues to oversee the company's European sales efforts.

The Aviom sales force is managed by national sales director Gary Lee, under the leadership of Aviom's new vice president of sales & marketing, Mike McGinn.

UK - Students at the University of Kent held their annual Keynestock Festival earlier this month and attracted more than 1,400 people to the three day live music event, which raised over £2,000 for the Prince's Trust.

The majority of the cabling used during the Festival was high quality Van Damme, supplied UK by VDC Trading and sold to Kent Union Technical Services (the Student Union's internally-run events crew) by Idium Technology.

Over the last two years, Kent Union has amassed a selection of Van Damme multicore, mic, DMX and power cables, as well as an array of Cat 5 and video cabling. These purchases have been part of a major investment by the Student Union, which was determined to bring the running of events such as Keynestock in house, thus improving the range and quality of events on offer.

UK - An injury to a cast member during a performance of Lord of the Rings at London's Theatre Royal Drury Lane, led to preview performances being temporarily suspended late last week. It was reported on the BBC News website that one of the actors caught his leg in the moving stage during an early scene. The set includes a large hydraulic stage which can revolve, and be raised or lowered in sections.

Audience member Tori Lowe was quoted by the BBC as saying: "The hobbits were on stage and had a group of dancers dressed as rangers with them. There was suddenly a lot of screaming, but at first we thought it might be part of the show. But a stagehand came runnning on, and when the music stopped we could hear someone shouting 'My leg! My leg!'."

He will spend most of his time travelling to help existing and potential customers understand the applications for Symetrix technology, listen to their needs and identify solutions. USA - Furman Sound has appointed John Benz as the new marketing manager for Furman Sound, LLC. Benz has served Furman for more than two years in the marketing department, and has previously owned his own marketing services company.

Furman's former marketing manager, Dave Dilitkanich, will remain with the company for six weeks to assist in transitioning the position to Mr. Benz. He will then be leaving to pursue an MBA at the UCLA Anderson School of Management.

UK - Multiform Technology has announced the sale of its trademark, product IP and company history to an affiliate of Hong Kong-based Adelto Group.

Iain Price-Smith, founder of Multiform, will continue to act as a consultant to the company, who will be developing a new range of quality performance lighting products designed in Europe, which are to be manufactured at Adelto's affiliated manufacturing plant in Guangzhou, China. Global distribution will be handled by Adelto offices in Hong Kong and Germany.
