USA - Zinman Software has announced the release of PocketLD v2.0 which allows lighting professionals in theatre, film and TV to calculate the FC/LUX and beam/field Diameters for over 2000 fixtures and lamps.

V2.0 adds the functionality for users to edit the existing library, create their own fixtures and organize these fixtures into an improved Favorites List. New fixtures included in the library include Dedolight, K5600 and Kobold.

Developer Michael Zinman says: "This is our most ambitious update for PocketLD since it was released two years ago. I'm so happy with these changes and I'm confident our world-wide user base will find the new functions a great add."

India - India's Premiere haute couture fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani called on the assistance and skills of technical director Dave Parry, from Most Technical India, for a recent society wedding in New Delhi.Most Technical India, which is slowly gaining a strong reputation with their designs for hotels and clubs, have also been involved with many fashion shows and high society weddings. Working alongside the world renowned Tarun Tahiliani, Dave Parry used his own Avolites Tiger Lighting Desk to light up the vast private farm in South Delhi.

Having recently bought his own Avolites Tiger console, Parry emphasised: "It was great to use a desk that I knew wouldn't fall over and the Tiger was the perfect size, enabling me to go from tent to tent programming the lights, and then leaving it backstage for the evening."

USA - In an effort to become a greener, more energy-efficient hotel, the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort, Florida, has installed LED lighting by Cree. USA - Nemetschek North America has announced that a new partnership with City Theatrical has been established. This partnership will allow both companies to cross sell and market their products to professionals and schools focused on the entertainment and lighting design industries.

Europe - Glen Johnson of i-Lite, set and lighting designer for the current Will Young's Greatest Hits UK and Irish tour, is using two grandMA2 light consoles to run the show's lighting. The two are networked together, with the first used as the main console, and the second running in full tracking backup.

Johnson has used the grandMA2 light on a number of other tours and events this year, including Maximo Park and Tracy Chapman. He likes many features of the grandMA2 light. The screens and faders are a "joy" to use. He's also impressed by the hardware the build quality and the sheer speed at which it saves.

USA - Synthe FX has released Luminair 2.0, the next generation of the wireless multi-touch DMX control app for iPhone and iPod touch. Luminair is a wireless lighting control software, which uses the Art-Net protocol to control compatible lighting equipment and media servers.

Among the new features in v2.0 is 'Stacks', which is a cue-list playback system designed to make it very easy to put together shows for a wide variety of uses. Cues can be programmed directly within Luminair, and also recorded as snapshots from an external console or any other DMX control source. Standard playback life using the device's internal battery can run up to 3.5 hours, and can be extended to over 36 hours using a 3rd-party external battery pack.

USA - Oscar winning actor Jamie Foxx recently completed his second arena tour with production designer Daunte Kenner. Foxx's charismatic show opened with a video montage celebrating his resume followed by an eclectic mix of music and comedy.

The design focused on hiding production elements. Except for the set, every other metallic object was black. The lighting rig featured 18 Studio Beams, 15 MAC 2K washes, 12 VL 3K profiles, four ShowGuns and eight PixelLine 1044s. A 90' fibre optic curtain provided the backdrop alongside a FlexiFlex video wall.

Kenner comments, "Foxx wanted to recreate some of the same elements of the previous tour - as with the economy in its current state - he wanted to keep costs low in order to keep the ticket price low. So we gave him a similar design updated with the latest smart technologies that allowed us to slightly downsize our control crew

Italy - Clay Paky supplied Alpha Beam 700s for Gianna Nannini's GiannaDream Tour, which stopped off at all the major Italian indoor stadiums in autumn 2009. The stage setup was highly original and had great visual impact. The artist interacted with a substantial cylindrical structure covered with LEDs that stood in the middle of the stage.

Lighting and stage designer Mamo Pozzoli comments, "This LED screen is a powerful object. Thanks to its three-dimensionality, it can create graphic shapes through the textures it transmits, as well as physical shapes, since the whole structure of trusses and lights accentuates its circular features." USA - New York-based violinist Mark Feldman has been using a DPA 4099V clip instrument mic for performances with the John Abercrombie Quartet at international concerts and jazz festivals, including The Montreal Jazz Festival.

Feldman joins a list of performers including Sting, saxophonists Wayne Shorter and Bobby Ricketts, trumpet player Randy Brecker and violinist Nigel MacLean, who have adopted the 4099.

Feldman himself owns a valuable antique violin, a Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume made in Paris in 1862. He was more than happy to use the 4099V microphone's gentle mounting accessory to attach it to his instrument.

Cuelux software lighting control is now more than ever proving to be a platform independent system that can be used on Windows and Mac operating systems, says the company.

Visual Productions has made a Cuelux driver for all 64 bit versions of the Windows operating systems, XP, Vista and the new Windows 7.

This is part of a planned expansion strategy by the architectural lighting specification & project delivery specialist, which is part of the PAI Group of Companies based in Wales.

Casey left her post as creative & technical support engineer at the UK base of leading LED lighting systems manufacturer and solutions provider, Traxon Technologies. She had been there for four years, and prior to that studied a bachelor's degree in Philosophy with minors in Neuroscience & Theology at The University of Birmingham.

Germany - e:cue lighting control - An Osram company, has introduced DMX2CC dimmers "for smooth and flicker-free dimming of high power LEDs". Using continuous current dimming method, DMX2CC dimmers enable control of 1W and 3W LEDs via a DMX control unit.

Available in six-channel and 12-channel versions, these devices feature a self-diagnostic test function preventing damages to the unit and LEDs caused by incorrect wiring, open or short circuit, and overheating.

A DMX out-port repeats and amplifies the DMX signal for convenient daisy chaining in projects where one DMX input signal must be distributed among several of these devices. DMX2CC is easily set up with auto and manual DMX addressing modes, and conveniently mountable inside equipment racks using standardized 35mm wide DIN rail.

Italy / Germany - LDR's Fabiano Besio has confirmed the renewal for 2010 of its distribution agreement for Germany with LTH.

Under the renewed agreement, LTH sales and service organisations will continue to sell and service LDR professional lighting products, including the new RDM Xpress colour scroller and the 2KW MSR Canto followspot within the German territory.

Fabiano Besio commented: "I greatly appreciate the commitment and dedication of LTH over the years. Since 2000 LTH it's been an important partner and under the term of this agreement they will continue to be the only reference for all the LDR customers in Germany."

USA - Robert Juliat USA has supplied two of its customised RJE Topaze 1200W followspots to the recently renovated Oceanarium exhibit at Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.

Known as The World's Aquarium, the John G. Shedd Aquarium is situated on the shores of Lake Michigan where it first opened its doors to the public in 1930. It has recently undergone major refurbishment with the complete renovation of the Oceanarium and Marine Mammal amphitheatre.

Robert Juliat's dealer in Illinois, Intelligent Lighting Creations (ILC) was the installation contractor for the project with the charge to transform the space into more of a theatre environment. The result is a 'reimagined space' which plays host to the Aquarium's new show entitled Fantasea.

Germany - Wireless Solution Sweden put the pedal to the metal at the world premiere of the new Volkswagen Touareg SUV at the Postpalast in Munich, Germany on 10 February. This high-profile world premiere and press conference was attended by approximately 500 of the world's automotive experts and VIPs and the launch was highly anticipated by the press.

The new Touareg is nearly 20 percent more fuel efficient and equipped with a large variety of new assistance and safety systems. It will also be the first and only off-roader in Europe by a German manufacturer to be available in a hybrid version, bringing it worldwide attention for its green initiative.
