USA - City Theatrical reports that on 19 January 2011, SHoW DMX transmitters and receivers and SHoW DMX equipped PDS-750 TRX power/data supplies were used in the first ever installation of a wireless DMX system at the White House to light the State Dinner for President Hu Jintao of China. The dramatic and innovative lighting design was created and implemented by Al Crawford and his company, Arc3design.

Arc3design's lighting incorporated CTI's new PDS-750 TRX for controlling many of the Philips Color Kinetics ColorBlast 12 TRX LED fixtures used in the system, and he complimented these with battery powered CTI PDS-50 and MasterBlast units driving additional individual ColorBlast 12 TRXs. The SHoW DMX wireless technology provided in these systems allowed Arc3design to locate gear wherever it was needed, and the fully featured SHoW DMX Receivers built into the PDS-750 TRX Power/Data

A live audience of 27,000 plus the 3,500 athletes and an estimated 2bn television viewers watched a spectacular light, video, laser and fireworks display with the Singapore skyline serving as a backdrop.

UK - Blackburn- based lighting rental company HSL has supplied equipment to the first BBC TV show to be produced at the new Media City complex & studios in Salford Quays, Greater Manchester.

Don't Scare The Hare is a new game show produced by Endemol which will be aired in April on BBC1's 5.30 p.m. Saturday slot. Lighting designer is Tom Kinane, with whom HSL has worked on numerous past projects. The show sees two teams of contestants pit their wits and their physical agility in a series of games which involves not scaring a large animatronic hare.

Lighting and colour psychology plays a key role in the production - if the hare takes fright during any of the games, the whole environment turns red for danger.

HSL's Sean McGlone project managed the supply of the equipment which includes Vari*Lite moving lights, white lights, LED sources, cyc lighting and follow spots. He

Syria - Owned by Hamsho Group International, the four star Yafour Hotel & Resort in Syria, located in the nature reserve region of Yafour, outside Damascus, has been built to a high standard - offering a large number of upmarket family facilities and corporate spaces - with Jano For Lighting supplying a technical infrastructure to match.

The company's owner (and lighting designer), Ammar Jano, knew that the white marble façade of the six-storey building would be a suitable projection surface for SGM's IP55-rated Palco 5 architectural LED fixture - and that it would provide a dazzling wash which could clearly be seen from the nearby Damascus-Beirut highway.

In total 18 Palco 5's were mounted - either on the ground, or positioned at roof level - to deliver a stunning crossfade colour wash.

Ammar Jano, who has been working with SGM products for almost a decade, then turned his

Sydney - For four nights only, the Sydney Festival transformed Sydney Town Hall into a swing-dancing heaven - featuring a huge dance floor and floorshow, with swing music played by Sydney's all-girl Sirens Big Band, just as in the venue's halcyon days - but with plenty of 2011 edge. Sydney's original Trocadero had its heyday in the 1940s and 50s but was demolished in the 70s. Today, its spirit lives on in the re-imagined nightclub named the Trocadero Dance Palace.

The lighting in the venue, designed by Matthew Marshall and including around 50 moving lights and a collection of LED fixtures along with generic theatrical lights, was programmed and operated by Peter Rubie who opted to use a Vista T4 running the V2 Byron software for control. "After beta testing Vista Byron in its early stages I was impressed by its feature set and vast improvements on Vista 1," remarked Pe

USA - Main Light Industries has introduced the LED-powered LightStar fibre optic illuminator, part of DiCon Lighting's FiberLamp product line. LightStar uses an LED light engine comprised of Red, Green, Blue, and White LEDs for a broad spectrum of colour choices as well as reducing the power draw and weight.

A key feature of the LED-powered LightStar is that it produces an output comparable to, or greater than, a fibre optic illuminator using a 150-watt metal halide light source. In a white colour mix, the LightStar is equivalent to the 150-watt metal halide powered illuminators. By using an LED light engine there is no transmission loss with a colour filter, so in deep, saturated colors, the LightStar has a greater output that is equivalent to 250-watt illuminators.

"By using LEDs as the light source, we have significantly decreased the power draw for the illuminator sin
