USA - Paul Kleissler has joined City Theatrical in the newly created position of Senior Engineer.

Before joining CTI, Kleissler spent eight years designing audio/video control systems for retail environments at Creative Realities Inc. Prior to that, he worked for BASH Theatrical lighting for 13 years, starting out as a bench technician and working his way up to department head in electronics. At the same time heco-founded Logical Lighting Interface where he co-developed the wireless dimming system that became the de-facto standard for Broadway use. In 2003, Paul and CTI's Head of Engineering Larry Dunn were co-inventors of City Theatrical's WDS Wireless Data System.

USA - Martin Professional has announced the hiring of Nicole Spencer as the company's new marketing & communications specialist (US).

Spencer comes to Martin from Louis Poulsen Lighting, Inc. and brings with her a solid background in public relations and marketing. Her experience encompasses collaborating with architects, lighting designers and other specifiers to achieve marketing goals.

In this new role, Spencer will be responsible for all areas of marketing communications including public relations, advertising, SWAG, literature, etc. She will also explore promotional and advertising opportunities that suit Martin's product, brand, budget, and business development strategies. She is based at Martin's US headquarters in Sunrise, Florida.

UK - The Avolites Technical Sales team has expanded again with the addition of Phil Blue. "Phil's characteristic energy, enthusiasm and positive attitude will be a great asset to an already strong line up," says Avolites' sales director Steve Warren, adding that Blue also has a great sense of humour, which will come in handy.

After eight years working as a sound engineer, Blue decided to cross the threshold from audio to lighting: "I was keen to expand my horizons and to experience all aspects of the production industry rather than just stick to one area or department," he says.

He also admits that he actually undertook plenty of lighting operation whilst working as a house sound engineer in clubs and venues and discovered that he "really enjoys it".

USA - J. R. Clancy has hired Damon Atwood to manage its packaged hoist sales. Atwood will focus on North American sales of the company's PowerLift automated hoists and SceneControl theatrical rigging consoles.

UK - Forward Vision has announced the appointment of James Smith as marketing manager. He was previously with the distributor, Norbain.

With over ten years experience in the electronic security industry, Smith has been involved with a number of high profile product launches and will be driving the company's marketing strategy forward as the company continues to expand both in the UK and overseas.

Portugal - Meyer Sound has announced that industry veteran Miguel Lourtie has joined the company's European Technical Services group. Lourtie will be providing technical support and design services to customers within the European community. He will also be an instructor in Meyer Sound's growing education programme, using his multilingual capabilities to reach industry professionals in their native languages including Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian (as well as English).

Lourtie has been affiliated with Meyer Sound over the entire course of his career in sound reinforcement, starting in 1993, when he first worked for a Meyer Sound distributor in Europe, and then as a Meyer Sound certified SIM engineer. In 1997, Lourtie founded Lourisom, an audio consulting and distribution business in Portugal, which distributed Meyer Sound products in the country.

Germany - A spectacular event to celebrate 60 years of Volkswagen vans held in Hanover, Germany, attracted an impressive 71,000 visitors. Atman, Croatia's leading AV specialists supplied and installed a giant digiLED d11R screen for the duration of the festivities.

Volkswagen van fans travelled from as far away as Australia, Portugal, Russia, the Ukraine, Denmark, Poland, the UK, France and Holland to celebrate the occasion. The celebrations started with a special convoy through Hanover from the Volkswagen factory to the showground hosting the event.

All the event festivities, including presentations and prize ceremonies, were relayed onto the digiLED screen from an OB truck on site. A concert by The Who ended the celebrations in spectacular style.

UK - Dialight Lumidrives, the UK-based LED technology provider, has made two key appointments with Paul Williams as north and midlands sales manager and Carl George as design engineer.

Williams joins Dialight Lumidrives with over 22 years' experience in the lighting industry. He joins having previously worked in product sales for DW Windsor, Philips and Concord.

George joins as design engineer having worked in CAD design for Creda/Hotpoint and most recently as design and development engineer for Victor Manufacturing.

Denmark - Martin Professional has named Mats Karlsson as technology manager for the company's Visual Solutions business unit. Karlsson has more than 25 years of industry experience in lighting, and more recently in video, and joins Martin from Barco where he served as product manager for the company's successful line of creative LED products.

Karlsson's' role at Martin will be to strengthen the technical and marketing foundation for products within Martin Visual Solutions, a business unit of the company created earlier this year to expand business opportunities and capitalise on the growing popularity of LED video screens. Martin recently introduced its LC Series of LED video screens, a semi-transparent, modular system of lightweight LED panels.

USA - Community Professional has appointed pro audio veteran Rod Falconer to the position of regional sales manager for the Western US region and Canada.

With more than 25 years in professional audio sales, Falconer comes to Community from Sabine, where he was director of sales. Previously he has held positions in sales and marketing at SLS Audio, L'Acoustics, JBL Professional and AMX. Falconer will be responsible for outside sales management in Canada and the western half of the United States.

UK - Andy Turner has joined the PSCo rental team as their new client support manager, a new role that has been designed to improve client liaison for rental projects.

USA - Richard Markus has accepted the position of division manager of the Music Instrument division of American Music & Sound, a California pro audio and musical instrument distributor, whose portfolio of brands includes Allen & Heath and Turbosound.

Markus was most recently president of EMD Music, Inc. from its inception in November 2002. Prior to that he was president of MAPEX USA and had previously held sales and marketing management positions at LP Music and REMO.

USA - Meyer Sound has announced that audio system design, analysis, and tuning authority Bob McCarthy has joined Meyer Sound in the position of senior design consultant to work closely on the design of Constellation electroacoustic architecture, the company's newest technology.

McCarthy was an early employee at Meyer Sound and was instrumental in the development of the company's SIM source independent measurement system. He also taught the first SIM School, which later evolved into Meyer Sound's ongoing education programme that today spans the globe. McCarthy eventually went on to become an independent sound system designer and tuner, a role in which he worked on numerous events, experience he now brings back to Meyer Sound.

Canada - Xantech Corporation has announced today the appointment of Claude Sabourin as the company's head of overseas sales. Sabourin brings with him a wealth of experience in the Asian and Pacific markets.

In his new role, Sabourin will oversee Xantech's sales efforts in Asia, South America and Canada and will establish new sales initiatives in the world's fastest growing markets such as Indonesia and China.

USA - Wybron has promoted Dusty Hudgins to sales manager. In this position, Hudgins will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Wybron's sales force and will also assist Wybron dealers and customers with their questions and issues.

Hudgins has been involved with lighting design projects since 1978. He joined Wybron in 2005 as a regional manager, covering the Southeast and Western United States.

UK - Le Maitre's Events Department has announced the appointment of a new team member.Emerson Wellens has been appointed as Special FX Technician, following the departure of head pyrotechnician, Mark Thomas.

Wellens will assist with technical queries from clients, as well as designing and firing shows, generating risk assessments and method statements, advising clients on the effects to be used for their projects, undergoing site visits and preparing proposals for shows.

USA - Biamp Systems has announced the promotion of Steve Metzger to vice president of business development and Paula Linn to vice-president of manufacturing. Both executives are long-time members of the Biamp team, and in their new positions will report to Ralph Lockhart, president, Biamp Systems.

"Since their arrival here, Steve and Paula have independently helped make Biamp Systems a better company," Lockhart explained. Prior to joining Total Structures, Kelley was western regional sales manager for fellow truss manufacturer Tomcat USA and sales manager for Barbizon Light of Arizona.

UK - Bryan Robinson took office as president of the Institute of Sound and Communications Engineers at this year's Institute Day and AGM in October 2007, taking over from David Hopkins OBE.

With 50 years in the industry, and his experience with Robbotronic Co, Horsham, Robinson's ambition is to encourage young people to become involved in the sound industry, and the ISCE are working closer than ever with Colleges and Universities throughout the UK to promote this.

Robinson commented: "The ISCE is committed to furthering the knowledge of all our members and we are rolling out a training programme which will actively help raise the standards of design and installations within the industry."

USA - Meyer Sound has announced the appointment of Bob Langlois to the position of senior technical support representative. Langlois will be providing technical support and design services to Meyer Sound's customers, and will also join the company's worldwide education programme to teach seminars on audio concepts and real world applications.

A pro-audio veteran with more than 30 years experience, Langlois joins Meyer Sound from Audio Analysts in Colorado, where he held the positions of vice president of worship design and senior project manager. Langlois has designed and managed the sound system installations at some of the best known churches in the country, including Phoenix First Assembly and Jubilee Fellowship Church. His career has also included positions with MXR, Whirlwind and other manufacturers in the audio industry.
