UK - Klark Teknik has introduced the all-new DN100 active Direct Injection (DI) box. This is a ground-up re-design that maintains KT's unswerving dedication to engineering excellence in design and sonic performance.

Klark Teknik international sales manager Dave Wiggins says: "It's easy to overlook the importance of utility items like DI boxes, but the fact is that a great-sounding DI box is a key element of a great-sounding system. It's all too common to see folks plugging thousands of pounds' worth of keyboards, basses or electro-acoustic guitars into cheap DI boxes and then wondering where their sound went."

KT tells PLASA Media is conducted extensive blind listening tests to select the best transformer for the new unit, and then engineered it specifically to withstand life on the road. It is fully certified to IEC60068, which tests the unit's resistance to shock a

Interactive Technologies' products include the Figment DMX - a Palm OS hand-held DMX control solution designed to bridge the gap between handheld DMX test equipment and full-sized desktop consoles; the Radio DMX - a plug-and-play wireless DMX transceiver which allows the operation of lighting instruments in locations where conventional DMX data cables may be impractical or inconvenient; the Sidewinder DMX - a portable DMX processor with the power of a console built into a miniature package; and MicroTech DMX - a DMX tool with all the features needed to solve tricky DMX problems with digital dimmers, moving lights, colour scrollers and virtually anything else that use

USA - The Pocket Console, from Texas-based DSP&L, is an inexpensive, small and portable DMX-512 theatrical lighting console, designed to be hand-held. Levels are set using eight faders - each with an associated bump button. 512 dimmer addresses are patchable to any of the eight faders, and the unit is powered by a 9V battery or by a 120V AC power supply. DMX output is through a 12" cable to a 5-pin female XLR connector.

Each of the eight 'bump buttons' have two functions: in the Normal mode, the bump button takes the associated fader to 100%. In the Patch mode, the bump button patches the DMX dimmer address shown in the dimmer window to the associated fader, while an additional bump button, labeled Unpatch, is for unpatching DMX addresses. Unpatched, the level sent to these dimmers is zero. Last and Next buttons are located below the dimmer display, for selecting the next o

Australia -The popularity of LSC Lighting Systems' maXim lighting control desks continues with further prestigious sales announced by the company. Rohan Thornton, Head of Lighting at GTV9 Television in Melbourne, commented: "I was just blown away . . . we needed a console that was not only easy to use for our many freelancers, but had to have enough features and power to do some real complex shows. The maXim filled the bill superbly - plenty of faders, the ability to record so many looks and grab them on the fly, the quick access to create effects with moving lights, the access to palettes and presets and the ease to overlay them on scenes is really incredible! It's as simple or as complex as it needs to be. The console novice can work one fader one light, through to a few moving lights and a lot of dimmer channels. Its' extreme versatility is one of it's great features."

Belgium - Le Maitre reports that its new world patented Stadium Hazer was well received at the recent ACF show in Brussels, where it was shown by Dirk de Graeve from the newly-formed Dees of Brussels.

The ACF show is held every second year on the site of the old Worlds Fair and is dominated by the Atomium - a huge, vaulted and well-lit space. After only a few minutes' operation, the Stadium Hazer was able to give the struggling show lighting maximum exposure, much to the delight of the exhibitors. Le Maitre's Rick Wilson explains: "The results were truly spectacular - we created a fine haze without the 'foggy' effect that one would associate with smoke machines."

Le Maitre also reports that several hire companies have ordered the Stadium Hazer, together with the new Dry Icer Pro, which when coupled with the Speedfogger Pro, was able to carpet the area in white clouds

UK - The latest CCS 800 Ultro analogue discussion system from Bosch Security Systems features built-in digital acoustic feedback suppression to ensure there is no annoying acoustic howl in conferences or discussions. Conference units such as the CCS 800 Ultro incorporate a microphone and a loudspeaker so there is always the possibility of feedback depending on volume levels etc. The new digital feedback suppression facility instantly suppresses any feedback interference right at the point of generation and prevents it from being fed into the system. As it is fully automatic, it acts much faster than any operator using a control unit.

According to Bosch, it's like having a skilled sound engineer permanently built into the unit. None of the participants will notice the sound adjustments - they simply benefit from howl-free sound whether speaking in a soft or a loud voice, with the

Denmark - Martin Architectural has introduced a 'long barrel' version of its popular outdoor CMY colour changer, providing more flexibility as a response to market requests for narrower beam options.

The Exterior 200 Long Barrel's greater length allows for narrower beam options for longer light throw, while maintaining a high intensity beam, say Martin. Two different options are available: 22° field angle (using Fresnel lens) and a 12° field angle (using the PC lens, which replaces the front glass). It is also possible to mount a beam-shaper glass to the underside of the PC lens, which provides an asymmetric beam shape of 14° x 69°. The new options mean that field angle possibilities for the Exterior 200 now range from 12° to 70° flood, with six different steps to choose from.

The Long Barrel's narrow angle options are also useful for illuminating columns and other narro

USA - Pro audio manufacturer Audient's ASP231 has come out on top in a "GEQ Shootout". Hardened audio enthusiasts gathered together towards the end of last year to determine which was the best 1/3rd octave equalizer for use with monitor wedges, and a day of gruelling tests ensued . . .

A total of 32 graphic EQs were put through their paces but the ASP231 captured the attention of the entire panel, which described it as "very smooth and clean" and rated it as a top contender in a 'most gain before feedback with minimal EQ' test, performed with a mic and a wedge monitor.

The competition was the brainchild of Michael 'Bink' Knowles and Michael Allen, who were instrumental in coordinating the day, which drew the attention of the entire community of sound engineers and technicians that regularly visit the Live Audio Board (LAB) on the popular www.live-audio.com

UK - Rycote's new Modular Windshield brings some subtle developments to the classic, proven zeppelin shape and cavity structure of the microphone windshield. The redesigned bayonet cap is not only easy and quick to locate but also reassuringly tactile in locking, say Rycote, while in addition to the usual rear-cap loading, users can also twist off the front cap, either for access to the microphone or to add an extension section for longer shotguns. Everything rotates into position with perfect alignment and noise or ringing is avoided with the use of diamond netting and resilient Hytrel mouldings.

Rycote's wide range of Modular Suspensions fit onto a new asymmetric filler strip and these - or the Sennheiser MZS-20/1, which is also compatible - glide smoothly over strong self-aligning structural joints and onto locating rails that accurately position the microphone. The Modular W
