USA - Martin Architectural has introduced a new variant of its full-colour mixing Cyclo 03 fluorescent washlight. Useful for decorative colour effects in a variety of indoor architectural environments, the Cyclo 03 is now available with three channels of onboard DMX control. UK - Vertigo Rigging has launched Powertower, a stand-alone trussing tower for the flying of PA, video and lighting equipment. The Powertower has a weight loading capacity of 500kg at 10m high, and features dual pick-up heads to accommodate both lighting and PA trusses independently. This allows the neat and quick suspension of sound and lighting wherever there are flying restrictions.

The Powertower is based on a James Thomas Engineering 30.5cm self-climbing tower system with the addition of a lightweight, bolt-together, aluminium base with a footprint of 2.65m squared. USA - Fox Television has purchased six 32-fader, 96 in-line channel Solid State Logic C200 Digital Production Consoles to serve their on-air promotion and sports departments. The first four consoles, slated for installation in late 2003, will be used for on-air promotion replacing the SSL Scenaria digital post-production mixing systems in use since 1992. The remaining two C200 consoles will arrive in early 2004 and be used for Fox Sports projects.

Of the unit's seven channels, the first three are microphone inputs mounted on the front-panel with combined XLR and 1/4" jack sockets, all with 2-band EQ and a 'talk over' function on channel 1; while the remaining four are line level with inputs on the rear. The MAC5 offers two 'zone' outputs - one powered, the other at line level - which both have individually controllable level and 2-band EQ. The Netherlands - Lumileds Lighting is now shipping a warm white version of its high-brightness Luxeon LEDs, becoming the first manufacturer to deliver a warm white emitter in production quantities, it claims. The new product opens the door for significantly greater use of solid-state illumination in interior and task lighting applications by overcoming the resistance of lighting designers and consumers to the cooler blue tones of conventional white LEDs.

Luxeon warm white provides a colour rendering index (CRI) of 90, a correlated colour temperature (CCT) of 3200°K, and an average light output of 20 lumens - up to 10 times brighter than standard LEDs. UK / Japan - Le Mark's new flame-retardant natural gaffer tape, which won the PLASA Show's 2003 Environmental Impact Award, continues to expand into new export markets. Following its September launch, Gaf-Fire was sampled to one of Japan's most respected lighting distribution companies, Tokyo-based H. Ito, and Le Mark was thrilled to see H. Ito place its first order for the new product in October.

Gaf-Fire has seen seen as a breakthrough tap and an important addition to the company's consumable accessory range. Gaf-Fire not only meets the stringent requirements of BS 5867 Part 2 Type B, but also, as the PLASA award reflects, is manufactured using natural elements and environmentally clean processes. Italy - Outline has added the T4 and T44 models to its Twin Pulse range of digital amplifiers. Both are 2U rack-mounting, lightweight units weighing 10 and 11kg respectively. The 2-channel T4 produces 2 x 1500W into 2ohms/2 x 830 into 4ohms/2 x 450W into 8ohms and is fitted with XLR male and female inputs and outputs with Speakon 4-pole connectors.

The four channels of the T44 can be configured as 4 x 1000W into 4ohms, 4 x 600W into 8ohms or (when bridged) 2 x 2000W into 8ohms. It has XLR female/combo (6.3mm jack) inputs and outputs with Speakon 4-pole connectors. The T44 can be used with a power supply of from 95 - 265V, a useful feature in countries such as the US and Japan, for example, which have different mains voltage from Europe. Both models will be available from around the end of November 2003.

The Netherlands - Xilver has introduced two new LED fixtures for the professional lighting market - SparkleRGB and SparkleMono. Sparkle LED luminaires are available in two different versions and are designed to (retro)fit into many QR111 or Par36 fixtures. SparkleRGB can create homogeneous coloured beams in 16 million different colours with the Xilver Color Combining System. The SparkleMono is available with seven different colours of LEDs.

Despite its high light output, Sparkles use a maximum 15W and have an expected life-time of 100,000 hours. Depending on the colour produced, Sparkle LEDs are between three and 10 times more energy efficient than halogen light, say the company.

UK - Meteor Electronics, the new company formed by Clive Kinton on his departure from Matrix Audio Development, is launching a range of lightweight Class D Amplifiers and Modules manufactured in the UK.

The D-Lite1200 is a 1U, 19" rack-mounted stereo amplifier giving 600W per channel into 4ohms. Its low weight - less than 8kg - is derived from the use of integral switch-mode power supplies and a clean, clear natural sound is delivered from its digital amplification techniques. This model, say Meteor, will form the basis of a range of digital amplifiers with outputs in excess of 2000W.

UK - Enttec has announced the release of its new DMX over Ethernet product, the DMXEthergate MK2, the latest evolution of the original DMXEthergate, which the company launched four years ago. The MK2 incorporates many new features requested by users of the DMXEthergate, including two DMX ports and the ability to work as input or output node (to help preserve the user's investment). In addition, the unit is RDM ready and supports both Enttec and ArtNet protocols. A built-in web page allows for quick configuration using any web browser.

UK - Allen & Heath has launched the latest version of the Windows-based iDR Software Manager that configures the company's iDR hardware components into an integrated audio distribution system. Version 3.3 has been developed to support the new iDR-4 signal processor and PL-9 'hub' unit (launched at PLASA) and to reflect the familiar Windows style applications and navigation, including copy, paste and save functions between presets and DSP devices.

Version 3.3 provides the facility for custom Sys-Net and MIDI strings to be programmed into patch settings, triggering the operation of Sys-Net or MIDI compatible equipment such as a CD player, lighting or effects unit, when a patch is recalled. Similarly, soft LEDs and logic outputs can now be controlled by level sensing within a channel.

Germany - Dynacord has extended the Madras system, introduced last year, with an active alternative - the M 212 two-way, mid-high/full-range enclosure. The Madras M 212 is equipped with two 12" Electro-Voice Neodymium ND12A transducers for the low mid-range and an Electro-Voice ND-6 neodymium driver with a 3" voice coil and an 80° x 55° constant directivity horn for the high frequencies. It delivers, say Dynacord, exactly the type of sound pressure levels in the low mid-range required for a large number of medium-sized venues.

With an output of 600W (450W LF and 140W HF) from the power amplifier, the M 212 is capable of achieving peak SPLs in excess of 131dB/1m with minimal distortion.
