UK - Neon wire is a new form of flexible lighting based on the electroluminescent principle. The cable consists of a centre core of phosphor coated copper wire with a spiral wrap of two fine wires covered with a plastic outer sheath. When a voltage is applied across the wires, the phosphor glows. This gives a neon like effect. This cold light source is currently available in seven colors and four sizes ranging from 2.3mm, (2.5mm high brightness) 3.2mm 5.0mm and the maximum length on a roll is 250m.

Laser Electronics has now developed the first in a range of DMX 512 control units for driving flexible neon wire. These control units have a very fast response time giving an almost strobe like effect. All channels can chase, flash, sequence or have continuous output when controlled with the company's pc-based software or any DMX lighting desk. Neon control units are available in many

Canada - Interalia, a leader in the design and manufacture of call processing and voice announcement solutions, has launched what it calls "one of the world's most advanced promotional on-hold music/message announcement systems". Called iProMOH, the new system overcomes all of the problems associated with traditional systems and provides a much greater level of power, flexibility and choice than the simple devices integrated with new telephone switches, say the company. The iProMOH utilises IP technology to remotely renew messages and schedules by "calling home" for updates.

Unlike CD or tape players, there are no moving parts and it does not require media to be sent out when the unit needs updating. A whole network of systems can be updated from one server and set to play the production at a predetermined time. Providing two solutions in one, the iProMOH is

The Netherlands - Prolyte has developed a hybrid coupler the CCS6-610, an innovative product for the 30 and 40 series truss. The first introduction of the CCS (conical coupling system) has changed the way truss can be used and assembled. The introduction of a hybrid conical coupling system is a step further ahead.

As Marc Hendriks, Prolyte's engineering director, states: "Although it might seem very futuristic, for Prolyte it was a natural step, as we are constantly looking for way's to improve our products. In this process we do not hesitate to use new materials or methods."

The hybrid coupler is a combination of metal, encapsulated in synthetic material. The coupler can replace the current aluminium CCS6-600 coupler and lives up to the same specifications for strength and tolerances. The advantage of the hybrid coupler is first of all it's price, which will be less

USA - Elation Control Systems (ECS) has introduced two digital DMX recorders, the DPR 1 (a tabletop 'pocket' recorder) and DR 512 (a 19" rack-mount version), which the company says will allow the user to copy all the scenes in a light show and then run the entire show at the touch of a button, with all the ease and speed of using a VCR. The DPR 1 and DR 512 are digital real-time recorders, so can record a whole light show including hold and fade times, rather than copying each scene individually and then requiring the operator to "sequence" all the scenes together, as non-digital recorders do, say Elation.

The DPR 1 and DR 512 were designed to work with any major brand of universal DMX controller. Each of the units has the capacity to record and store up to four complete light shows into its internal memory; 33 complete light shows can be stored into external me

USA - Colorado-based lighting manufacturer Wybron Inc has given the first public showing of its new BP-2 beam luminaire, at the USITT Stage Expo, March 17-19 in Toronto, Canada.
