USA - American Audio recently introduced two new power distribution panels, the PDP-850 and PDP-950. Designed for use with any rackmount setup, each panel offers seven three-prong power plugs, 20A breaker protection and pop-up lights - along with various new upgrades and features.

One of these upgrades is the use of LED Technology, rather than conventional lightbulbs, as the illumination source for the units' pop-up lights. USA - As of 1 January 2005 all Strand 500 series control consoles ordered after this date will ship with the latest edition of WYSIWYG Perform Console Edition. Connecting the newest version of WYSIWYG CE to a Strand ShowNet network allows users to match the full capacity of their Strand Console to WYSIWYG for the first time. Users will no longer be limited to 512 DMX addresses and will now be able to display up to 8,000 devices on a 500 series system. Automated lights are consuming DMX addresses at an ever expanding rate and the new WYSIWYG Perform Console Edition frees users to display and control lights up to the capacity of their consoles without additional cost. Finland - The makers of FogScreen have reported that volume production of the system has now started, with lead time currently at one month for FogScreen Inia, a 1.5m x 2m (59" x 79") sized model. The company also reports that the screen's quality has been improved during 2004, and the level of condensation water dripping from the unit has been reduced. Also, FogScreen Inia is now DMX-controllable, say the company, while interactivity add-on are also available, making it possible to write and draw in the air with a pointer stick.

Hungary - Hungarian soul/funk nine-piece Freeport, introduced the Pro Series microphone range from Audio-Technica, at the Wigwam Rock Club in Budapest, as part of the annual Hangfestival (Sound Festival) last month. Audmax is the exclusive distributor of Audio-Technica in Hungry and organized the first A-T workshop, with Freeport providing the musical demonstration.

The musicians used a variety of Audio-Technica microphones, including AE3300 on lead vocals, PRO61 on backing vocals, PRO63 on saxophones, MB2k on trumpets, PRO63 on guitar cabinets and ATM25, ATM23He, ATM33a and PRO63 drums.

Around 400 visitors attended the event including some of the most important broadcast suppliers and contractor companies and musical instrument dealers. The Hangfestival is the Hungarian event for professional sound technicians and is organized by Garry Electronic.

UK - Green Hippo and Scene Change, creator and distributor of the acclaimed Hippotizer digital media server range, have announced H-MAP, the Hippotizer Media Access Protocol. H-MAP offers the ability for any lighting console to access information from Hippotizer servers, including clip previews and corresponding DMX control values. A console could therefore show programmers thumbnails of all of the images or movie clips available in a Hippotizer allowing direct, immediate selection. The link between Hippotizer and console is via ethernet, and is dynamic and so can be automatically updated as the Hippotizer's contents change - unlike 'one off' schemes offered by some manufacturers where clips are manually transferred from media server to console.

USA - The new Krypto Sync from American DJ, is a compact 4.9mW green laser, designed for smaller users who want the excitement of green laser effects, but don't have the big budgets of large clubs.

The Krypto Sync comes pre-programmed with a whole arsenal of different geometric shapes - just plug it in, and you get continuous variety of visual patterns. Users can create their own custom shapes when the unit is in the manual mode, one of three different operational modes that the Krypto Sync can be run in. The other two modes are sound active and master slave.

In the sound active mode, the Krypto Sync's will automatically move to the beat of the music, and in master slave mode multiple units can be linked together for a synchronized light show across larger areas. Australia - ARX Systems, the Australia-based pro audio manufacturer is pleased to announce the addition of the new Pro DI direct box to its AudiBox range of precision tools, designed to perform essential professional audio functions in a compact, flexible package. UK - JVC is now stocking its range of dual purpose digital video (DT-V) range of HD and SD monitors with multi-signal video and audio capabilities. The JVC 17-inch DT-V1700CG and the 19-inch DT-V1910CG colour video monitors have an increased range of interface cards and are newly price-positioned to compete with standard definition CRT monitors.

All DT-V monitors feature natural flat CRTs with either user-selectable standard 4:3 or wide 16:9 aspect ratio. A discrete 16:9 removable bezel is provided as standard. Producing clear images, the DT-V1700CG monitor has 800 TV lines and the DT-V1910CG has 900 TV lines of horizontal resolution.

The LR14 is a passive two-way ultra-compact line-array module, to be used in vertical arrays, either in stacked or flown configuration. UK - Formula Sound launched its new FF-6000 mixer, which was designed in collaboration with leading UK loudspeaker manufacturer Funktion One, and the DJs who will be using it.

The six-channel FF-6000 includes features specifically requested by the DJs. These include: the option to switch between linear and rotary faders using an easily changeable extra fader panel, an easy-to-use cross-fader mounted beneath the channel strips for more precise control, larger control knobs on the most frequently used functions, and improved access to external effects so that users can use the very latest new effects units.

USA - One of the first inter-manufacturer RDM systems was seen at LDI in Las Vegas late last year, when British control manufacturer Artistic Licence provided German company G-LEC's stand with its architectural control system Colour-Tramp, controlling the new G-LEC LightFrame transparent LED display. After a lengthy development period led by ESTA, RDM (Remote Device Management), is now so far advanced that it is possible for equipment from different manufacturers to successfully communicate with each other. Germany - German distributor Lightpower has expanded its Major product range to include pre-wired lighting bars for fixed wire lighting installations. The bars are available as part of a standard product range or can be custom-made up to a length of 4m.

With an emphasis on safety, the bars allow for the user to replace a lamp by easily disconnecting the luminaire from the mains voltage. Additionally, all Major lighting bars are fitted with lamp failure indicators to enable a defective lamp to be located with ease.
