USA - A.C. Lighting tells us that the Jands Vista lighting console is now in stock and will be demo'd for the first time with the final shipping software at this week's Pro Production 2005 show in Long Beach, California. The Vista was first shown as a working concept in 2003 and was seen by many as the next major step forward in lighting control due to its 'back to basics', innovative approach to lighting design. Unlike existing consoles, which force users to convert their mental picture into a complex series of numbers, the Vista allows users to work visually by controlling all design parameters with a pen and a large colour screen. This radically different interface enables users to build their lighting designs visually and makes programming with the desk extremely fast, simple and intuitive.

In addition, a unique Timeline feature displays all show parameters on a single scro

UK - Main Light Industries Inc has appointed Architainment Lighting as the exclusive distributor for the UK and Ireland of its award-winning patent-pending SoftLED product. Architainment was formed in 2003 to distribute the Color Kinetics' range of products to both the entertainment and architectural markets, and as the SoftLED utilizes Color Kinetics' Chromasic Technology, the partnership made total sense, say the company.

SoftLED is a high quality theatrical drapery with tri-colour LEDs embedded in the material. The LEDs are virtually invisible until energized, so that the effect is as dramatic as possible. Each LED pixel (or node) is individually addressable for intensity and colour. SoftLED drapes are available with their LED nodes spaced in a number of different resolutions: Low resolution is with the LED nodes placed on 30cm centres, medium resolution is on 20cm centres,

Germany - Agilent has announced a breakthrough colour management system for backlighting LCD flat-panel TVs, which the company claims delivers 25% more brilliant colours than current fluorescent backlighting. The colour management controller IC and colour sensor module combine to produce a complete hue (colour) and intensity (brightness) control system, say the company. The system works with high-power Luxeon red, green and blue LEDs from Lumileds Lighting - a joint venture between Agilent and Philips Electronics.

The Agilent solution solves past problems LCD television display manufacturers have had with RGB LEDs by providing a closed-loop optical feedback system. The system enables plug and play for OEMs and maintains a set color point over the life of the TV display. Initially, the primary application for this technology is to control RGB LED backlighting for LCD flat-panel

Germany - A working party from the VPLT (Germany's trade association for professional lighting and sound equipment) and the trade association with liability for industrial safety and insurance in Germany, has just produced the new SR 2.0 safety guidelines for electric chain hoists. ChainMaster, the Eilenburg-based developer and producer of professional chain hoists and chain hoist controllers, is already in a position to meet in full the requirements of this standard: BGV D8+.

BGV D8+ is positioned between the BGV D8 and BGV C1 standards. With respect to load runs, its stipulations are the same as those of BGV D8, except that no work limit switch is required. For BGV D8+ chain hoists with rated load-bearing capacities of 1,000kg upwards, an overload shutdown function is required, whilst for BGV D8, a friction clutch can be used for overload monitoring. For BGV C1 chain hoists, t

Hong Kong - Lighthouse Technologies broke new ground with the introduction of the P12-Enhanced Resolution (ER) indoor/outdoor light emitting diode (LED) panels, which use advanced digital processing to enhance resolution to include more detailed information on a smaller screen. With a 12.5mm dot pitch resolution, the P12-ER allows more images, graphics and text to be displayed on 25mm panels.

The P12-ER is the first LED panels to combine the benefits of Lighthouse's M4 colour uniformity, 14-bit grayscale and resolution-enhancing technology. The P12-ER is best suited for advertising and stadium applications that require mid-size screens with high-resolution for longer viewing distances. Recognizing the demand for a wider variety of LED signage, P12-ER is the first in a line of enhanced resolution products Lighthouse plans to introduce in 2005. The internal architecture of the onb

USA - When Elation Control Systems (ECS) unveiled the DMX Operator, the unit was hailed as an affordable solution to DMX lighting control for clubs, DJs and entertainers. Now ECS is following the success of this controller with the introduction of a new, upgraded model, the DMX Operator 192.

Like its predecessor, the DMX Operator 192 is an affordable 192-channel controller that can operate up to 12 intelligent fixtures, with as many as 16 DMX channels each, however the DMX Operator 192 also goes well beyond the original.

One of the new upgrades is a joystick for controlling pan and tilt. Users can assign any one of the 12 fixtures to the joystick - and enjoy smooth, easy, precision control of its movements at the flick of the stick. The DMX Operator 192 also features an encoder wheel that can be used as an alternative to the stick.

Another new feature is USB input, which all

France - To be launched at ProLight&Sound exhibition in Frankfurt next month (6-9 April), InnovaSon's new range of interfaces allows for greater connectivity between InnovaSon consoles and third party compatible products whilst at the same time increasing the I/O capabilities of the Sy80 and Sy48 digital mixing consoles considerably, say the company.

As yet un-named, the first product in the range provides a link for 64 bi-directional audio channels between the DSP cards of two InnovaSon consoles using an EtherSound interface card. Alternatively the same cardset can be used to access up to 64 channels of audio from external devices via EtherSound, or to connect to a second InnovaSon stage box which, InnovaSon tells us, will be available shortly, after the first audio links ship.

The interfaces comprise a host daughter card attached to an Sy80 or Sy48 DSP module that can hold

UK - Le Mark has created a range of heat, solvent and tamper-resistant identification labels/nameplates for industrial tooling manufacturer, Perkins Engines. The requirement was to develop and manufacture a label which would remain in place at all times and clearly identify the company's products. A Japanese pressure-sensitive self-adhesive system unique to the UK (SSS 5585) which forms an incredibly strong bond once cured, was selected. A combination process of screen-printing and steel etching was required to ensue durability to meet the Perkins specification.

Over 12 months of testing, evaluations were carried out with extreme temperatures, vibration, oils and solvents. These extensive tests showed LeMark's product, to be able to produce the best solution, and therefore winning the contract, amidst fierce opposition within the industry market.Le Mark's sales director Linda G

UK - Workwear manufacturer Setwear has announced the availability of EasyFit 2 - a tough yet flexible glove made from 0.5mm synthetic leather with durable gel foam padding in the palms for extra grip and neoprene reinforcement over the knuckles for flexibility and protection, while Lycra panels between the fingers increase mobility and give extra comfort.
