UK - Forge Europa has introduced a new range of SPLEDs for use in a range of illumination applications including backlighting and filament bulbs replacement. SPlined LEDs - SPLEDs for short - are LED bulb replacements which can be used without a printed circuit board. The contours of the LED just push into a pre-drilled hole with a secure friction fit, and insulation displacement connectors make interconnection easy.

Suitable for assembly into all types of vac form and plastic fascias they are quick to assemble, making them suited to short production runs and applications requiring fast progression from development to manufacture.

SPLEDs can stand-alone or march together in extended strips to provide unique scope for the creative lighting design engineer. They provide a very wide viewing angle of 120°, and diode protection ensures that they can survive harsh environments. Si

UK - This year's AES Convention in San Francisco played host to a couple of high-profile presentations of the TiMax Audio Imaging DSP delay matrix and showcontrol system. At the Live Surround Symposium, chaired by Fred Ampel in the historic Merchants Exchange Building downtown, around 150 attendees listened to presentations from various audio luminaries on live surround in theatre and orchestral productions, ambisonics, soundfield microphones and live sports broadcasting. The session ended with a live band mixed by Buford Jones on the new DiGiCo D1 console matrixed via TiMax to a nine-channel Meyer CQ2 surround system.

In his Delay-Imaging presentation, TiMax creator Robin Whittaker demonstrated to audience members how audio wavefront arrival time differences significantly influence the perceived localization of multiple audio sources, a phenomenon discovered by Helmut Haas in

USA - Community Professional Loudspeakers has announced the launch of four new all-weather R Series loudspeaker systems. USA - The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has allowed the claims of a patent application filed by Meyer Sound pertaining to the company's MAPP Online acoustical prediction software. The patent describes a method of providing acoustical response predictions for a modeled loudspeaker system over a communications network. In the case of MAPP Online, an Internet-enabled client-server system lets modeling software running on a server at Meyer Sound's headquarters provide the computational "back end" to GUI software running on the user's local computer. Allowance of the claims is a significant step preceding the award of a patent. The patent, when issued, will be the 35th US or international patent issued to Meyer Sound since its founding in 1979.

As described in the company's patent application, the techniques employed by MAPP Online provide a number of

UK - Green Hippo and Scene Change, creator and distributor of the acclaimed Hippotizer digital media server range, have announced H-MAP, the Hippotizer Media Access Protocol. H-MAP offers the ability for any lighting console to access information from Hippotizer servers, including clip previews and corresponding DMX control values. A console could therefore show programmers thumbnails of all of the images or movie clips available in a Hippotizer allowing direct, immediate selection. The link between Hippotizer and console is via ethernet, and is dynamic and so can be automatically updated as the Hippotizer's contents change - unlike 'one off' schemes offered by some manufacturers where clips are manually transferred from media server to console.

"Until now, controlling digital media from a lighting console has involved keeping lists of which DMX value corresponds to which

UK - Software providers Stardraw.com has announced the public availability of a Beta 1 version of its award-winning application Stardraw Control. During the Beta-test period, Stardraw is inviting manufacturers and systems specialists to become test partners in this new project. In return, test partners are asked to provide as much detailed feedback as possible via the dedicated Stardraw Control forum that has been set up especially for this purpose.

Stardraw Control generates standalone, customized control programs, offering a new approach to solving the problem of controlling heterogeneous systems; for too long, systems integrators have been locked into closed architectures wherever system control, monitoring or signal routing has been required. Stardraw Control, by contrast, offers a software-based, unified control framework that can manage any type of addressable equipment fr

Denmark - Martin Architectural has added a new dimension to its Cyclo range of full colour mixing T5 fluorescent fixtures - directional track mount and surface mount versions. The Cyclo Directional provides a simple dynamic light solution for retail and other commercial applications. Easy to program, and simple to fit, the Cyclo Directional offers an almost endless variety of colour choices say Martin.

The Cyclo Directional uses RGB technology to generate both coloured and white light of variable temperature. Technically this is achieved by combining dimmable T5 fluorescent lamps in the primary colours red (R), green (G) and blue (B) in a process known as additive colour mixing. The patented optical system produces a broad, even wash of ready-mixed colour. Three 54W T5 tubes create the high output necessary to cut through the high ambient light levels typically found in retail

UK - Soundcraft has reintroduced the Urei name on a range of DJ mixers designed for both the traditional House market and the Turntablist performance sector. Originally created in the 1970's with the 1620, the UREI range was a rotary-based mixer for the House sector, making its reputation initially on the New York scene, at the heart of the control centre that was Larry Levan's DJ booth at The Paradise Garage.

First to be re-launched is an updated version, the limited edition Urei 1620LE. Tempting though it was to totally re-engineer it, Soundcraft has kept the original circuits and components while engineering it for enhanced reliability. Slight modifications to the circuit layout have been made to minimize noise. With all the sonic qualities retained, users will experience the authentic rotary feel of the 1620, while the panel layout remains as intuitive today as it did in the
