USA - University Christian Church (UCC), located on the campus of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, recently upgraded its sound reinforcement system with Tannoy column line array loudspeakers.

Curt Taipale, owner of Taipale Media Systems (TMS), headquartered in Allen, Texas was tasked with designing the new system. He worked closely with SAV, a Plano-based system integration company that handled the installation.

"The existing sound reinforcement system was more than 20 years old," explains Taipale. "I worked alongside Media & Technical Coordinator Jack Stewart to nurse it along for a time but it soon became clear that we needed to make an upgrade."

USA - Danley Sound Labs has announced the expansion of its OS Outdoor Series of fully-weatherized loudspeakers, including a new fully-weatherized subwoofer. Although all Danley products are optionally available with level-2 weatherization, which includes fibreglass seams, stainless steel hardware, and protective coatings over all wooden components, the fact remains that those wooden components will have a shorter life span in the elements than they would have had in an indoor installation.

In contrast, Danley OS products are constructed of moulded plastic with a custom injection moulded shell rated to last 50 years. The cabinet is sealed so the inner components are also protected from harsh outdoor elements. The materials are sourced from within a half-hour of Danley's Gainesville, Georgia headquarters - a boon for large orders and/or short lead times.

USA - To attract a younger, media-savvy demographic, The Crossing Christian Church in Las Vegas has installed a concert-grade Meyer Sound system. The design features the JM-1P arrayable loudspeaker and the 1100-LFC low-frequency control element, Meyer Sound's most powerful loudspeaker for the 30 Hz to 85 Hz frequency range.

"It's great to finally have a system with enough headroom so that we can push it hard when needed, and have it respond with a smooth increase in gain, without distorting or changing the tonality," says Bob Meyers, principal audio engineer at The Crossing.

For uniform coverage of the wide, 1,800-seat room, the system relies on four main clusters of JM-1P loudspeakers, with four in each end cluster and five in each of the two center clusters. One UPA-1P loudspeaker provides down-fill under each cluster, while six UPJunior VariO loudspeakers supply f

UK - For the fourth year running Adlib supplied audio crew & equipment for Capital FM's Summertime Ball phenomenon staged at Wembley Stadium, London.

The line-up of A-List artists included David Guetta, Ellie Goulding, Miley Cyrus, Enrique Inglesias, Pharrell Williams, Calvin Harris, 5 Seconds of Summer and numerous others.

Adlib's resident KSE system engineer Tony Szabo once again designed and specified an L-Acoustics K1 / K2 PA system to complement the new stage design.

For the first time at the Capital shows, Adlib opted for DiGiCo for consoles at both ends of the multicore, this lead not only by artist requests but also Adlib's recent heavy investment in the premium audio console brand.

Full A and B line systems were run flip-flop style for the main stage revolve system. This was to facilitate the exceptionally tight changeovers. The unforgiving event schedule again fo

Ireland - The flexibility of a Roland M-200i live digital mixing console configured with the Roland S-1608 Digital Snake proved to be the solution for Recks Audio for an unusual, one off outside broadcast from a lighthouse.

Working for national radio station Today FM, the Clara based professional sound company were tasked with broadcasting a live, three-hour radio show from the Hook Head lighthouse in Co. Wexford - the oldest intact operational lighthouse in the world. The broadcast included the presenter abseiling down the lighthouse (whilst presenting!) and a live band performing inside the lighthouse - as well as the production of the daily radio show itself.

With each element posing its own audio challenges, this outside broadcast required an audio setup with a small footprint yet with enough inputs and outputs to handle both sends and returns for the microphones, band and

USA - St. Madeleine Sophie is a Roman Catholic Church in Schenectady, New York. The church has a modern architectural design with a fan-shaped sanctuary and an attractive, wood-beamed ceiling.

St. Madeleine's open ceiling promotes good acoustic diffusion but its ceramic tile floor, hardwood pews and painted walls contribute to an overall 'live' sound quality. In this environment, St. Madeleine's previous point-source audio system was unable to provide good vocal clarity and it suffered from uneven coverage, frequent feedback and a noticeable rear-wall bounce.

St. Madeleine's contacted Dominick Campana of Pro Sound Associates in Guilderland, NY to design a new sound system. Campana chose a Community Entasys ENT-FR full-range column coupled to an ENT-LF low-frequency column for each side of the chancel and a Community dSPEC226AN DSP processor for loudspeaker management and syste

UK - It was Midsummer's Day at Victoria Park in Leicester and the kind of balmy afternoon that encapsulates the perfect English summer. Below the circling helicopter, the audience was gathering to see the homecoming gig from Kasabian, a band very much of the moment who are currently attracting critical acclaim and popular approval in equally large measure.

Kasabian's audio supplier is Britannia Row Productions, long regarded as one of the premier providers of PA systems for outdoor shows of this scale - the site boasted a capacity of 50,000 - and for this event Britannia Row supplied an L-Acoustics system.

The main arrays comprised a combination of L-Acoustic K1s and L-Acoustic K1SBs and L Acoustic K2s were used on side hangs. A formidable forty-eight L-Acoustic SB28 Subs were ground stacked along the front of the stage. Out on the site there were eight delay towers placed str

UK - FOH engineer, Ben Hammond, has opened a new studio, the Vegas Rooms, in the Chairworks Studios with Allen & Heath's GS-R24 studio console as the centrepiece.

An award-winning mix engineer, in recent years Hammond has developed an impressive portfolio as a FOH engineer, mixing for bands such as Saxon, Deaf Havana,You Me At Six and No Devotion.

"Increasingly on tour I was getting demands for live recordings for single B sides, album additional tracks, or magazine covers, so there was always a need for studio time. I knew it was time to invest in my own studio when I found myself mixing the bonus tracks for Deaf Havana's deluxe edition album on a laptop on my knees," explains Ben Hammond. "The studio works alongside my touring work, opening up options for the bands I work with."

Switzerland - Nexo has installed its popular Geo S12 line array modules into the 15,700-capacity Stade Olympique de la Pontaise in Lausanne. This is part of a recent run of stadium installs that also includes the larger Stade d'Anderlecht in Belgium.

Built in the 1950s, the Lausanne stadium urgently needed to upgrade its 30-year-old sound system in time for an International Athletissima athletics meet in July. It also needed to comply with the requirements of the FC-Lausanne Sport football club, based at the venue. As well as football and athletics, the venue can be used for concerts.

Philippe Martin from consultancy firm AER designed a stadium system comprising two identical setups on either side of the pitch, linked by a fibre optic Dante network. Each of the two grandstands has been installed with four clusters spaced 20 metres apart. Each cluster consists of five Geo S12 c

UK - The Sage Gateshead - an iconic multi-arts building in the north-east of England, which originally cost £70m to construct - this year celebrates its tenth anniversary.

To celebrate its landmark birthday the venue has upgraded the sound system in its 1700-capacity main Hall One with the installation of an RCF HDL 20-A line array by local contractors (and long time RCF rental partner), Nitelites.

The move follows a period of careful evaluation by the facility's head of technical operations, Chris Durant and his team, during the many occasions the HDL20-A has been flown on a temporary basis to support the house system.

Home to Royal Northern Sinfonia, and host to a vast concert agenda that includes jazz, folk, country and rock the original beam steering system had rarely kept pace with the Sage's promotional ambitions and so Nitelites found themselves increasingly hir

UK - BlackBox Recorder manufacturer JoeCo is celebrating the opening of new offices at its Cambridge headquarters. The new building incorporates office and meeting space, production and workshop facilities, as well as a dedicated development and testing area for the expanding BlackBox product range. The move coincides with the forthcoming release of the company's latest product - the new BlackBox BBR1MP Recorder with integrated mic preamps - and the expansion of its team.

"Our new work space has been several months in its planning and construction" says JoeCo's Joe Bull. "We will continue to sub-contract many of our operations, as this has proved very successful so far in the growth of the company. However, with an expanding product range, requirement for additional staffing and extra space, it made sense for us to extend our current facilities.

Brazil - If one country has been defined by the celebration of 2014 then it has been Brazil. Already famous for its carnivals this summer it exploded into life by hosting the FIFA World Cup.

With the potential requirement for sophisticated point-to-point communication systems, broadcast service companies like Tele-Ponto started casting the net for solutions, and it was not long before Optocore came under their radar.

"Tele-Ponto had been looking for a solution to integrate with our RTS intercom systems and [RTS senior support engineer] Chuck Roberts suggested Optocore," stated Milena Ranalle, from the company's Import department. "In Brazil some companies are already using fibre with audio, video and data, so that's the reason we were searching for a complementary system."

Based in Santo André City at São Paulo, it did not take the company long to

Scandinavia - Supporting heavy metal festivals STHLM Fields and Sonisphere not only took tremendous sonic power, but also an intelligently designed loudspeaker rigging system built for mission-critical circumstances. For the festivals' headliners Metallica, Slayer, and Mastodon, Starlight built a massive Meyer Sound Leo linear large-scale sound reinforcement system with close to 200 loudspeakers. Within 24 hours, the system was flown and tuned for action for the two productions located 500 km from each other.

Both produced by Live Nation, the STHLM Fields welcomed a sold-out crowd of 50,000 in Stockholm's vast Gardet Royal Park, while Sonisphere drew 40,000 metal fans to Oslo's Valle Hovin stadium.

"Although the shows were two days apart, Metallica preferred to have the system ready for a 6:00 pm check in Oslo the day after the first show," says Fredrik Arwidson, sys
