Ross was asked on-board to assist Panasonic in making an impressive impact on the stand by Hartmut Kulessa, marketing manager of projection products for Panasonic Europe.

Behind the scenes at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, lighting director Jason Rudolph used eight d3 4x4pro media servers from d3 Technologies to map the football field around the stage with content from 80 Barco projectors. The d3 servers also sent 4 feeds to control the LED stage, magically transforming the floor from a perspective-bending chessboard to a tropical island paradise and a dynamic graphic platform for an airborne finale. Working with production designer, Dominic Tolfts, and production manager, Jessica Enderby, XL Video's film & TV manager, Jeff Bailey specified one of XL's high brightness Barco HD20 projectors along with a Repro H projection screen to create the main question screen for the centre of the Two Tribes set.

The Barco unit provides sufficient output to ensure good visual clarity amongst the studio lighting, and Bailey once again selected a Repro H screen surface to avoid hotspots which can be picked up by broadcast cameras.

The question screen is central to Two Tribes, displaying questions asked by the presenter, Richard Osman, which discover what players have in common, and determine the teams for the game.

France - Airstar, lighting balloon technology specvialist for the event and staging industry, has been at the centre of the Val d'Isère Airstar Night Light since 2012. Every Thursday evening, between December and March, the manufacturer showcases various lighting technologies, and all its savoir-faire, to illuminate the French ski resort.

This year, over 30 Airstar lighting balloons of various shapes, sizes and colours were deployed: The Tourism Office square boasted a magnificent Star shaped balloon as well as four hanging Crystals of various sizes (130cm to 160cm), covered by a printed << planet >> cover, while the main road hosted six Crystal Diamond 130, three air inflated Stars 160 on a pole and 12x DMX controllable standalone Towair Evo Flame. A further four red Airstar Towairs (four metres high) lit up a live show.

UK - Large format projection artist Ross Ashton was commissioned to create a new projection artwork for the 2015 e-Luminate Festival in Cambridge, UK, which lit the front fascias of two of the city's magnificent historical buildings - Old School and Senate House - which are part of the University of Cambridge.

Ross and his team from the Projection Studio received technical support sponsorship from locally based live event and technical production company Hawthorn for the five day festival, and the four PT-DZ21k projectors were supplied by Panasonic.

It was the third time that Ross has created bespoke light works for these buildings.

Japan - Ayrton's IntelliPix-R LED panels played a prominent role in the spectacular lighting design at the annual Japanese music show, Best Hits Kayousai 2014. The show, which recognises some of Japan's most popular artists of the year, took place in November at the Festival Hall, Osaka and was broadcast live on the NNN network. Over 18 acts, including Exile Tribe and May J, performed during the two-hour show.

XL Video utilised 270 tiles of their popular Pixled F-12 LED, along with 154 of XL's own custom touring frames to create horizontal strips of LED across the width of the O2 stage. The empty frame rows revealed lights including Showtec Sunstrips and other lights were attached to the spacers between the LED.

Working with One Direction and their creative director, Lee Lodge, XL Video provided 144 Barco MiStrip LED batons which were housed in a custom structure created by design studio, Artisan, as a backdrop for the band's performance of their recent single Steal My Girl. The MiStrips complemented a sea of lasers behind the band, and content for the batons was controlled by two of XL's d3 media servers.
