Canada - The event production community was shocked by another stage collapse tragedy on Saturday (16 June), when a partial roof collapse at Downsview Park, Toronto, killed one crew member and injured three others.

The stage, which was being set up for the final show on the North American leg of Radiohead's world tour, collapsed at 4.00pm local time, around one hour before the gates were due to open, killing 33-year-old Scott Johnson, a British drum tech who was working on the stage at the time.

Of the three people injured, a 45-year-old male suffered head injuries, but these were reportedly not life threatening. The two others were less seriously injured and were treated at the scene.

A message on the Radiohead website says: "We have all been shattered by the loss of Scott Johnson, our friend and colleague. He was a lovely man, always positive, supportive and funny, a

UK - The Association of British Theatre Technicians (ABTT) 2012 Theatre Show Awards, sponsored by two of the organisation's Silver Industry Supporters Group members, Stage Electrics & Triple E, took place following close of show on Wednesday (13 June).

With judging taking place throughout the day and final decisions made late in the afternoon, winners were presented with their hook-clamp trophies in the Truman Brewery's Corbet Place Bar, in front of exhibitors, guests and ABTT members. The winners are as follows:

UK - Following the transfer of the show to The Old Truman Brewery, Julian Chiverton, sales director of Doughty Engineering, said, "We enjoyed the busiest ABTT we've ever had. Our guys were talking to visitors most of the time, and I'm really pleased with the way the show went."

Of particular interest was Doughty's new Follow Spot Mount, specifically designed to enable a follow spot to be firmly positioned on a rail and give an exceptionally smooth movement. With rotation of a full 360 degrees, the Follow Spot Mount, which has a low friction plate to ensure an easy, smooth movement, complements Doughty's existing Follow Spot stands, stand tops and spigot. Like all Doughty branded products, it is engineered in the company's own factory in Ringwood, Hampshire.

Also on show at ABTT was Doughty's Studio Rail walk along track kits, a neat and inexpensive solution for schoo

UK - A record attendance was posted for the 34th ABTT Theatre Show on its move to the Old Truman Brewery venue in East London.

Over the two days of the event nearly 2,000 visited the show - up five per cent on 2011 - previously itself a record year. There had been early indications that the ABTT Theatre Show's move to the Old Truman Brewery would encourage visitors this year, and the final statistics indicated the highest attendance ever, say the organizers.

Already buoyed by record pre-registrations (up 6% on the previous record level), the organisers were "delighted" with the visitor turnout. The show also fully sold out all exhibitor space. A number of visitors had travelled from Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and the USA as well as those from all parts of the UK and Europe.

Italy - "I needed something that could properly compete with its bigger neighbours in the rig in terms of brightness and presence and the MAC Aura didn't disappoint." So says lighting and show designer Jò Campana who teamed Martin Professional's MAC Aura LED wash with 1500-watt MAC III Profiles and MAC 2000 Wash XBs on Italian rock band Litfiba's latest tour.

In accordance with the band's wishes for the 2012 tour, more contemporary visual elements like LED video screens were avoided in favor of classic rock looks. "In the end, it's an old style rock 'n' roll show with big sound and strong lights," Campana says.

"I went for the MAC Aura because of their powerful and defined beam, besides its notorious distinctive aura feature. It is also very lightweight and with its speed I sometimes launched a very high-speed pan/tilt effect. The result was definitel
