UK - Expanding production company Event Concept will move to warehouses and offices totaling over 30,000sq.ft. The new location is a stone's throw from its existing establishment in Bermondsey, South London. Following refurbishment, the business will move to the new premises in January 2008.

In 13 years, the company has evolved from an event lighting service to a fully integrated design and technical production company. As well as widening the portfolio of production services to include staging, sound and A/V, the company has also continued to grow the lighting side of the business.

Developing new services and extending the production team has meant Event Concept has had to consistently invest in equipment, looking to the latest technologies. As a result of these investments the business is also servicing an increasing demand for dry hire.

USA - For the third year, Tomcat is giving away a scholarship to one of its 2008 Hoist & Rigging Workshops to be held February and June in Midland, Texas.

As part of its continuing efforts to expand and improve its workshop, Tomcat will offer two new and improved curriculums. The Hoist and Truss Workshop will include instruction on basic and advanced maintenance and troubleshooting techniques as well as basic and advanced instruction on truss design, usage and theory.

The Rigging Workshop will include basic and advanced instruction rigging practices and principles, fall protection as well as advanced instruction on truss design, usage and theory. Both courses will be offered during each of the 2008 sessions.

UK - Andy Turner has joined the PSCo rental team as their new client support manager, a new role that has been designed to improve client liaison for rental projects.

PSCo's managing director Stuart Holmes comments: "In response to customer feedback, we decided to tailor a unique role with the sole focus of maintaining client satisfaction. We required someone who had the expertise to fully support our clients from the specification stage up to on-site support, particularly for the 'Advanced' products in the rental fleet. Andy was a natural choice as his past experience means he knows exactly what clients need and when."

UK - The British Tinnitus Association (BTA) has rebranded and launched a new website (see address below) in order to raise awareness of the condition.

Tinnitus affects almost five million people in the UK - a staggering 10% of the adult population. The new BTA website and rebrand is a response to one of the most common health problems facing the UK today and has been designed to raise the profile of tinnitus and support those who have the condition, says the association.

Musicians and music lovers are particularly at risk from hearing damage due to frequent and extended exposure to high levels of noise. There is a common misconception that using ear protection can reduce the sound quality of music in a live situation. In reality the right ear protection can increase the quality of what is being heard by cutting out specific frequencies, as opposed to simply cutting down noise.

UK - Early on Monday 5 November, a white M.A.N. 7.5-tonne truck with tail lift, registration FN54 FPZ on hire to John Hornby Skewes & Co Ltd and containing an HK Audio COHEDRA line array concert system, and numerous other PA systems, was stolen from the car park at the Innkeepers Lodge, Sheldon, Birmingham.

The PA system and various ancillary equipment included COHEDRA line array cabinets and subwoofers, plus a number of flightcased VX2400 power amp racks and Digital Field Controllers. All the flightcased cabling/fly bars for the system was also included in the haul, along with a number of HK's self-powered F.A.S.T. monitors and ConTour CT112 speaker cabinets. The COHEDRA mid/high assemblies were housed in large grey flightcases, whilst the subwoofers were mounted four units high on dollies, protected by black road covers bearing the 'COHEDRA' logo.

The recently released 2007 Financial Analysis of the Industry focuses on three main areas of interest: company background, balance sheet and summary information, and sales ratios.

"The Analysis is a proactive yardstick to help measure your bottom line against other like-size companies in the industry," said senior director of member services Jodi Montgomery. "It provides information on what the most profitable companies are doing. Belgium - Midas Consoles Benelux, recently incorporated to handle Midas and Klark Teknik distribution for Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, made its debut at November's ACF show in Brussels. During the show, an order was placed by leading Belgian music venue Ancienne Belgique (AB) for two 56-channel Midas Heritage consoles.

AB chief engineer Tom Janssen ordered a Midas H2000 for front-of-house and an H3000 for monitors. As part of the deal, Midas Consoles Benelux will be handling ongoing service and training for the venue.

USA - At the Opening Ceremonies of the 123rd AES Convention in New York City, Soundcraft technical director and co-founder Graham Blyth was presented with the Fellowship Award "in recognition of his distinguished career in mixing console design and service to the Society", noted AES President Wieslaw Woszczyk, who officially conferred the award at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

"I was both surprised and delighted to be awarded an AES Fellowship, particularly because I've never presented any papers on my subject," notes Blyth. Spain - PRG Europe has supplied the new Barcelona production of Mamma Mia!, following the show's hugely successful run in Madrid, where it not only broke the record for the city's fastest selling musical in the week after opening, but also holds the record as the highest grossing show in Spanish theatre history.

With a large rig comprising over 80 moving lights - including Vari-Lite luminaires - and over 300 conventionals, the show is set to open at Barcelona Teatre Musical on 29 November. PRG Europe will be supplying all lighting and control for the show. The venue is a multipurpose indoor arena recently converted from a sports stadium to take musical theatre.

USA - ESTA has announced the winners of the 2007 Dealers' Choice Product Awards which recognise outstanding entertainment technology products in three categories: Expendable, Widget and Equipment. These Awards, honouring product innovation, were established in recognition of the fact that dealers have an enormous impact on the success of a new product, as well as a unique perspective on its merits.

USA - Dialight plc has joined forces with former US President Bill Clinton to make its green products more affordable and accessible to city governments and consumers throughout the world.

The Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) has announced discounted pricing agreements with 25 manufacturers of energy-efficient products, including Dialight, covering indoor lighting, clean vehicles, traffic and street lighting, building products, advanced waste management technologies, water system components and alternative energy technologies.

Dialight will offer solid-state lighting products, based on the use of the latest light emitting diodes (LEDs), to 1,100 cities in the United States and 40 key cities throughout the world. The initial focus will be on traffic signals but will eventually include other products which use LEDs.
