UK - Mark Jordan has joined Blitz Communications Limited as Group account director. Mark, who has a degree in Theatre Design & Technology, was previously an account director with Show Presentation Services working on the Morgan Stanley, FT, COI, Moodys and the Mitchells & Butler accounts.

He has been employed in the AV industry since leaving university and, in addition to his relevant academic qualifications, he has wide practical experience with a full understanding of all facets of video, audio, lighting and stage set design.

USA - Crown Audio has appointed Vincent Tan to the position of business developer for the Asia region. In this role Tan will be responsible for supporting the sales within the region and working closely with the customer base. He will report to director of marketing for installed sound, Brian Divine.

Previously, Tan served as an engineering manager for Spectrum Conferencing, which specialises in providing integrated conferencing and professional audio visual solutions. In this role Tan was responsible for the management and direction of the post sales department, where he led a team of four engineers in providing after-sales services.

Gosney has three decades' experience of working in the pro audio industry in a career that spans systems operation and design, sales, installation and even set-building. Previous companies which Gosney has worked for include Autograph Sales, Imagination, Amber Sound, ATM Flyware and the SFL Group.

UK - LSI Online has learned the sad news of the death of Robert Ornbo, one of the most prolific lighting designers of the 20th Century. Here, his friend and colleague Richard Pilbrow remembers Robert's career:

Robert Ornbo was a brilliant and prolific lighting designer, whose work on over 300 productions ranged across drama, musicals, opera and ballet to events such as the Edinburgh Tattoo, the Royal Tournament, the naming ceremonies of ocean-going liners and events at Buckingham Place for the Royal Family. His influence has had a profound impact on theatrical lighting over the last 50 years.

Robert was the first lighting designer to join Richard Pilbrow in the fledgling company Theatre Projects in 1960 and he became managing director of Theatre Projects Lighting during its heyday when its team of lighting designers, who included Robert Bryan, John B. Read, David Hersey and An

UK - Acoustic specialists Vanguardia Consulting has announced that environmental acoustics expert David Trevor-Jones has joined its management team, headed by Jim Griffiths and John Staunton. The enlarged firm also opened a London office near London Bridge on 1 November.

UK - The British Society of Cinematographers honoured Stan Miller of Rosco with the Bert Easy Technical Award for his contribution to lighting technology, at the BSC Operators Night at Elstree Film Studios on 14 December.

Stan Miller, who has owned the Rosco company since 1958 was travelling in Asia and asked Michael Hall to accept the Award on his behalf. Hall was introduced by Joe Dunton, executive vice president of Panavision, who spoke of new Rosco products being widely used in film today.

Nepal - As a sponsored event on behalf of Cancer Research, DiGiCo's Phil Down was part of a group - organised by trekking and climbing specialists Summit Climb - that completed a 16 day expedition to climb two mountains - the 6200m Island Peak, 5700m Kalar Patar and also visited Everest Base Camp (at 5540m no mean feat in itself).

Unfortunately Phil's trip got off to the worst possible start, losing four days after arrival in Nepal to a stomach bug, leaving the entire trip in jeopardy for him. But this is where his audio crew's sense of dedication and unwillingness to be beaten came to the fore - he wasn't about to let a bout of illness stop him. After racing against time to catch up with the rest of the trek, he met them at Island Peak Base Camp and was the first to the summit.
